Day 1805 - Monday, Monday...

Greetings, Monday Morning Blah-gers!

Here's Miss Savi at the Childrens Museum in the water play area.

I spoke to her that afternoon and said 'Did you go to the museum and play in the water?'

She answered very seriously 'No, I didn't do that.'

She has also learned to say 'Wait a minute', which is really funny. She must have heard that once or twice to have picked it up!

So - today is the last day of January, everyone! Time to pay bills again.

It is also time to do some menu planning for Superbowl Sunday. Superbowl Sunday is an excellent opportunity to get together, watch the game, and eat too much! Ha!

TTFN and have a nice Monday!

Day 1804- Please don't eat the...earrings?

Greetings, Blogregation!

It's time for a PSDS update - that stands for 'Pierced Ears' if you didn't already know.

When they tell you that your ears need 6 weeks to heal after getting them pierced, I would say that's a bit premature.

Yes, you can start changing out your earrings then, but your ears do continue to toughen up after that.

There is also the challenge of putting in and removing different types of earrings. I am still most comfortable with post earrings, and lightweight ones too.

Mine are finally getting to where I feel more confident about NOT hurting myself - and I got them pierced the beginning of OCTOBER, nearly 4 months ago!

Anyway - I want to share this story about earrings. I bought some inexpensive earrings the other day. They have a little fake pearl inside a teardrop shaped gold basket.

The package had a WARNING on the label stating 'This product not intended for children 12 and under.' Good grief! Do they think a twelve year old is going to eat the earrings or something? I don't get it.

TTFN and have a great Sunday!

Day 1803 - The January THAW...

Greetings, Bloggy Weekenders!

Newsflash - we are supposed to have a warm, sunny day today with highs in the 50's! That will feel absolutely wonderful.

I'm going to make this quick because I am typing and eating breakfast at the same time. I have water aerobics for 2 hours this morning starting at 9am.

Have a great Saturday, and Heather, I hope Savi is feeling better today!

Day 1802 - Hello, Friday - Goodbye, January!

Greetings, Bloggy TGIFers-

It's Friday, Hooray! You know what to do, march in a circle chanting 'Fri-day! Fri-day! Fri-day!'

This has been a strange week. It really doesn't feel like Friday to me, but I am NOT complaining.

Here's a cute snow picture of Miss Savi. Look at that smile!

January has almost ended. The first month of 2011 went by super-fast, didn't it? I got my W-2's in the mail this week, which means it is time to find some tax forms somewhere - post office or library. I am hoping Charlie will do some looking for me (hint, hint).

Have a nice weekend everyone! Say goodbye to January and get ready for the SuperBowl!

Day 1801 - Now That's Cold!

Greetings, Bloggy Mom and Popsicles!

Here's one of my photos from the Smoky Mountains last February. Brrrrr....

Speaking of cold, I have a story to tell.

We had snow overnight on Tuesday, and flurries Wednesday morning. I believe it was our NINTH snow this season.

I was going to the gym at lunchtime yesterday and happened to be behind two other women leaving for lunch.

They went outside, felt the cold, saw the snow and one said 'I've had enough of this, I've been cold since SEPTEMBER!'

I got a really big kick out of that, and have told that story to several people. You really know it's cold when you feel SO cold that you think MONTHS have gone by since you were warm.

I just think about Maine with below zero temps during the winter, and I know we have it easy. TTFN and have a great Thursday. ONE more day till Friday!

Day 1800 - That's something to celebrate!

Greetings, Bloggy Readerage-

IT'S DAY EIGHTEEN HUNDRED, FOLKS!

That is nearly FIVE years worth of bloggage. I don't have statistics for how many photos, words, captions, or comments that represents, but I do know it is a LOT.

You know what to do - march in a circle 1800 times chanting 'Eighteen! Hundred! Eighteen! Hundred!'

Yep- 1800 days ago the blog was just an idea waiting to happen.

If you are interested in the YEAR 1800 - here's a link to read about it:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1800

I think I'll take the day off... Just kidding! I will probably be working from home due to ANOTHER snowstorm. Have a nice Day 1800 and be careful in the snow!

Day 1799 - Why, Why, Why??

Greetings, Bloggy Questioners!

There are just some things I will never understand.

I find myself wondering WHY, WHY, WHY?

(Play sound clip of Barbra Streisand singing 'I wonder as I wander')

For example:

WHY does my frying pan always cook better on the left hand side?

WHY don't drivers COOPERATE with each other on the road?

WHY does every package of bacon fry completely differently?

Why does the tag on some clothing say 'Do not wash in a washing machine' when you CAN wash it in the washing machine?

Why is it necessary to include a legal threat on the tag that goes on a mattress or bedding?

Why doesn't anybody track how often the weather forecasts are WRONG?

Why have I been writing this blog for almost EIGHTEEN HUNDRED DAYS?

The answer is: 'I dunno' to all of them. Have a nice, albeit clueless, day.

Monday, January 24, 2011

Day 1798 - Bring on the Super Bowl!

Greetings, Monday Morning Blah-gers!

Okay, now we know who will be in the Superbowl - the Green Bay Packers and the Pittsburg Steelers. I think that will be a great matchup.

We watched the games yesterday afternoon, and I made tenderloin-hamburger sliders and cheddar cheese flavored popcorn. YUM.

These trophies actually belong to the New England Patriots, I'm sorry they didn't make it.

Let's hear your predictions of who will win. I am thinking Green Bay at the moment, but I could change my mind.

TTFN and have a great Monday!

Sunday, January 23, 2011

Day 1797 - I'm going to Tax-ar-kana!

Greetings, Blogregation...

Yes, that's right - tax time approacheth! I have started receiving stuff in the mail, but not my W-2s yet.

Also - if you don't already know, the IRS won't automatically send you forms anymore. You have to go get them at the post office or library, or print them yourself, or call a number and order them. I guess I'll get mine at the library or post office.

I am sure NOT doing the mailings saved the government millions of dollars in postage and paper, so I am not complaining too loudly. I always look forward to my tax refund, although some years it is a pretty darn small refund. I need to remember to file for the tax credit for our new windows too.

Keep your eyes peeled for your tax documents, and whenever possible, I file early to beat the rush and get a fast refund.

Have a great Sunday, and enjoy the last full week of January coming up!

Saturday, January 22, 2011

Day 1796 - Frozen-ism...

Greetings, Bloggy Storm Chasers -

No, this isn't really my windshield, but I do hate it when ice and salt spray get on my windshield and smear all over during or after a storm. Especially if the sun is out, which makes it even worse.

Then I hit the washer fluid to dissolve it, and... NOTHING. NADA, because the fluid injector is frozen or clogged. Grrrr...

Actually, what happened yesterday was nothing on MY side, the side I need to SEE with. On the passenger side, things were working fine. Sheesh.

When I returned home, it was working fine again, but I remember pulling off the road once in Massachusetts and washing my window with snow when that happened so I could see again.

Be careful today, and hope for an early spring! It's also a good idea to invest $2 in some window washer fluid with antifreeze in it.

Friday, January 21, 2011

Day 1795 - Is THAT what I think it is? Eeeeew!

Greetings, Bloggy TGIFers-

It's Friday, Hooray! You know what to do, march in a circle chanting 'Fri-day! Fri-day! Fri-day!'

That lovely looking thing in my hand is not a 'floater' (hee hee), it's a fingerling blue potato!

I bought a bag of multi-colored (yellow, pink and blue) fingerling potatoes at Sams Club, and they are delicious.

Since I got home earlier than usual yesterday due to the snow, I had time to prepare them for dinner. I just baked them in the oven till they were crispy, because I like the chewy potato skins. As a matter of fact I love that they are mostly skin.

Have YOU ever tried a fingerling potato? I hadn't until yesterday.

TTFN, have a nice Friday, and a nice weekend!

Thursday, January 20, 2011

Day 1794 - Friday Eve, Already?

Greetings, Bloggy Spinners!

Here's Miss Savi showing us her Sit and Spin.

Those things are as popular as ever! I remember when they were first invented. I remember when a lot of toys were invented, the Big Wheel. They were awesome.

Changing subjects... We have a monthly get together (mixer? team building event?) after work for the people in our department. The get together is tonight, but it is supposed to start snowing this afternoon and I know that will impact the turnout.

We'll see...if there is free food involved, I might just have to brave the storm. Gotta get gas, though, but we already have milk and bread.

TTFN and have a nice Friday Eve!

Wednesday, January 19, 2011

Day 1793 - The DYE has been cast!

Greetings, Bloggy Washers and Dryers!

What was lost has now been found...

It is just a matter of time before I purchase a box of those Dye Magnet sheets.

Would you believe that my friend S.Y. just bought a box yesterday, then happened to read the blog about it?

She called me last night and said that her Kroger store carries them. Hooray! Thanks, S.Y! To assist my New England family - Kroger is a grocery store.

I am getting very excited about doing laundry next weekend, providing I can find a box at my local Kroger...

TTFN and have a great Wednesday!

Tuesday, January 18, 2011

Day 1792 - Desperately Seeking Dye!

Greetings, Bloggy Wash 'Em and Wear 'Ems -

I am desperately seeking dye-magnet sheets.

Are you ever AFRAID to put two items of clothing that are different colors in the same wash - even if you are using cold water?

Confession - I am.

I am tired of white clothing slowly becoming gray, especially when my mother has been known to say 'whose nice gray bra is this?' when referring to MY clothing.

I am tired of looking into the laundry wash water and seeing how dark it is, knowing that the white edging on a dark blouse may be another color after the wash is done.

I am tired of wondering if a particular article of clothing will 'play nice' with others.

I want to try dye magnet sheets. Shout has some. Woolite has some. I haven't found out who carries them yet. I even read a 'recipe' where you can use a white washcloth and vinegar in your wash to duplicate the effect. (No, I want the easy way out. Open box, drop in sheet.)

Any suggestions for where I can get them, and have you used them? Testimonials are encouraged.

TTFN and have a great Tuesday!

Monday, January 17, 2011

Day 1791 - Are they Birds, or Aliens Prentending to Be?

Greetings, Bloggy Bird Watchers-

Our little backyard birds are busy this winter, attracting other birds and eating vast quantities of seed like never before. We call them 'little piglets' when they can't hear us.

This is not my photo, but it could have been our yard yesterday - there were SO MANY ROBINS. Easily 50, and more the day before that. What is all THAT about?

Are they really robins, or aliens disguised as robins? Some of them looked suspicious as I drove into the driveway yesterday (meaning, they ignored me).

Okay, I don't really think they are aliens, but we sure have a lot of robins all of a sudden, and it seems awfully early to see so many. Doncha think?

TTFN and have a nice Monday! I have water aerobics, an oil change appointment, and some shopping on my agenda today.

Sunday, January 16, 2011

Day 1790 - Random Acts of Weekend

Greetings, Blogregation!

Charlie took me out for Cajun food yesterday to Papa Boudreauxs Cajun Cafe', and BOY was it good.

For our appetizer, we split an order of a dozen cajun-fried oysters with remoulade sauce.

Then we each polished off a GIGANTIC bowl of seafood and sausage gumbo after that with hot french bread and butter. I found a whole crawfish in mine (and gave it to Charlie).

I have one story to share from my trip to Walmart yesterday. The man running the register was really funny, and happy to chat it up with the customers. He scanned some dog food for one customer and quipped 'Aw, that's nice - you bought something for your 4-legged children!'

That got everyone laughing and talking about pets. I told him about my sister in law, who had one Great Dane and one RABBIT. Talk about opposite ends of the pet spectrum...

TTFN and have a great Sunday!

Day 1789 - Birthday plus ONE

Greetings, Bloggy Weekenders -

Here's another cute pic of Miss Savi in the snow. Love that pink snow outfit.

I had a very nice birthday, by the way. Thanks to all the well-wishers and gift senders!

Facebook is really good about birthday reminders, so I had more Birthday greetings than I've ever had!

Speaking of birthday greetings - one of my cards from Charlie said...

On the front: "Never kick a fresh turd on a hot day . Harry S. Truman"
Inside the card: "May all the advice you get on your birthday be useful."

Hilarious! TTFN, thanks again, and have a great Saturday!

Day 1788 - Happy Birthday To... ME!

Greetings, Bloggy Celebrants!

Here is Miss Darling Savi, helping Mom shovel snow. Isn't that cute?

Yep, it's my birthday. I have some presents and cards to open, goody!

Having a birthday so close to Christmas isn't so bad, (more presents are always welcome) and having a birthday near the Martin Luther King Day holiday isn't bad either - I'll have a long weekend.

Hey - I wonder.... Am I still a Capricorn with this 'new horoscope' business everyone's talking about?

I'm going to check and see...

Nope - according to 'Wobbly Science', I am now a Sagittarius. Funny, I don't FEEL like a Sagittarius.

Check out this article for an overview...
http://www.livescience.com/strangenews/wobbly-earth-horoscope-zodiac-wrong-110113.html

TTFN and have a very, merry UN-birthday to those of you who aren't celebrating a birthday today.

Day 1787 - Ice, Ice, Baby...

Greetings, Bloggy Moms and Pop-sicles!

I pulled this photo out of my archives from last year's ice storm the end of January, 2010.

Remember that? It was bitter cold last January as well.

The day I took this photo, I bundled up - meaning I put my hat and gloves and heavy coat on OVER MY BATHROBE, pulled on some boots, and gingerly walked around the yard snapping photos.

Just a common shrub, when coated with a layer of ice became a glorious work of art. Very pretty, but very hazardous.

The melting and refreezing going on after our snowstorm has created some icy parking lots and back roads. I also wonder how the folks down in Amish country are dealing with their snow - they got at least twice as much as we did further south!

Hey - family and friends in New England - tell us your snow totals from this storm!

Day 1786 - Midweek and Midlife

Greetings, Bloggy Middlers!

We're in the deep freeze - snow and ice on the ground and bitter cold temps moving in for the next several days.

So whaddya do with weather like this? Watch MOVIES!

We watched a couple Netflix movies recently worth recommending. 'Flipped' is a cute love story that is very family friendly.

'Jonah Hex' is an action Western movie about a maimed-cowboy-ghost-whisperer-out-for-vengeance against John Malkovich. It was interesting too.

The remake of '3:10 to Yuma' - another Western was also good. Maybe we're just not very fussy? (The first time I typed that, I wrote fuzzy)

TTFN and watch out for cabin fever!

Tuesday, January 11, 2011

Day 1785 - Talk about LUCK!

Greetings, Bloggy Bargain Hunters -

I have to tell you this story. I don't know if you'll believe me or not, but Charlie can confirm it!

The 19" color TV that we have in the master bedroom (that we've had for 10 years or so) has been on the blink - literally. It will stay on for a little while, then cut off. We never know how long it will stay on.

This past Saturday was 'half off everything in the store' day at Goodwill, so I went to look for a replacement TV.

I found one - a 19" Smart-Series Philips Magnavox color TV with a better picture than the one we had, which was an inexpensive 'Symphonic'. One huge drawback- no remote. I really argued with myself on whether to get it because the remote was missing. I bought it anyway - with the half off, it was only $10 plus tax, but I didn't like wondering where we would get a remote for it.

At home, Charlie discovered that the 'power on' button hardly worked, making a remote even more important. He found one online for $30, and I saw one on eBay for $10. I didn't like either one of those prices, and set off again that afternoon to a different Goodwill store.

Would you believe that I dug through their basket of miscellaneous remotes and found the perfect remote for that television (it was even a Smart Series remote). So for half of the sticker price on the remote, which was 99 CENTS, making a grand total of $10.50 plus tax, we now have a replacement television with remote control that is better than the original.

Go Goodwill! What are the odds that I would find just the right remote for that TV, the same day, at a DIFFERENT location? Unbelievable!!

Day 1784 - Snow, Snow, Come Out In the Snow!

Greetings, Bloggy Winter Wonderlanders!

Here's Miss Savi in the snow - New England snow, that is.

I wonder if Southern Snow tastes different? I've said this before, but I'll say it again...

When I was a kid in Connecticut my sisters and I ate snow off the top of the garbage cans out back because they looked like giant cupcakes. Eeeeewwww!!

I don't know exactly how much snow we're going to get, but I expect to be working from home today. They were already announcing school closings last night, and if we get a lot of snow, they may be closed for days.

I started taking down the tree last night - I think I'm ready to put Christmas away since I'll have a winter wonderland outside to entertain me.

TTFN, stay warm, and have a nice week!

Sunday, January 09, 2011

Day 1783 - Uh...my tree is STILL UP

Greetings, Bloggy Spirits of Christmas Past...

I KNOW, I KNOW - it is WAY past time now to take the tree down, but I have a new excuse!

Buddy Joe is coming for dinner, and I want him to see it, so I can't POSSIBLY take it down yet.

It sure feels like Christmas - 15 degrees with a snowstorm coming in tonight and another snow event the day after that.

It's a good thing we got a propane delivery this weekend - almost $800. Ouch - that hurts, but at least we won't run out of fuel.

I'll make this short so we can go the health club and swim, then get ready for company.

Oh - and my FREE chicken biscuit yesterday (that I pronounce as 'Chikky Bisky') was just fine, thank you very much.

TTFN and have a great Sunday! Stay warm!

Saturday, January 08, 2011

Day 1782 - Sat-ur-day with Chik-Fil-A

Greetings, Bloggy Spicy Biscuit Eaters!

I have a RESERVATION this morning at the Cool Springs Chik-Fil-A location to pick up my FREE spicy chicken biscuit on my way to water aerobics class. I even have a TIME on the reservation, so I'd better not be too early or too late.

I sure hope that the spice doesn't wreak havoc with my digestive tract, as I plan to spend the next two hours after I've eaten it in the pool! And to top that off, right after that I have a doctors appointment. Yep, on a Saturday.

They'll draw some blood and say 'Look at your cholesterol - you'd better Eat LESS chicken'.

Actually, my cholesterol is just fine, thank you very much, but I am a spicy food sissy...not very spicy is spicy enough for me. I go to Cracker Barrell and order the Spicy Grilled Catfish with NO spice. Ha!

TTFN and have a nice Saturday - see you at Chik-Fil-A!

Friday, January 07, 2011

Day 1781 - It's Friday, Hooray!

Greetings, Bloggy TGIFers,

It's Friday, Hooray! You know what to do - march in a circle chanting 'Fri-day! Fri-day! Fri-day!'

For me, the first week of the year flew by, how about yours?

I have a bunch of appointments coming up in January. They include two doctors, one dentist, one HVAC tuneup, one oil change, and one other... my hugely-important Chik-Fil-A Free Spicy Chicken Biscuit reservation.

Yes, it's true. I saw the ad for it on TV while we were watching football (the Chik-Fil-A Bowl of course).

I went to the designated website, reserved the date, time and location I wanted to pick it up from, and we printed my 'reservation confirmation' on the printer. I can't wait till Saturday (tomorrow), which is my 'Free Chicken Biscuit' day.

Why does something taste even better when it's FREE? Post a comment if you know the answer!

TTFN, have a great Friday and a great weekend!

Thursday, January 06, 2011

Day 1780 - No time for bloggage!

Greetings, Bloggy Wish-it-Were-Fridayers,

I got home late yesterday, and chatted with Charlie, and put in a wash, and fixed up a bill to mail, and read a little bit, and went to bed.

This morning I thought 'I didn't write the blog last night!'

Oops. Hope you aren't TOO bored without my lame stories or comments.

TTFN and have a nice, blogless day!

Wednesday, January 05, 2011

Day 1779 - Very Old, and Very Lame!

Greetings, Bloggy Midweekers!

Here's a few stories from yesterday's visit to the health club. The New Years Resolutions have kicked in, the parking lot is full, and there is a big mix of regulars and newbies.

A very old man ALMOST walked into the ladies locker room last night, just as I had finished dressing.

For all I know, he DID walk in before I had finished dressing. He stood in the doorway and called into the room 'Is there a MENS locker room nearby'?

I gently said 'You don't want to go in here, the men's locker room is straight down this hall - do you see the sign that says MENS?' He headed that way, and I hope he made it.

My second story is the 'Lame' story. One of the lap swimmers (a regular) was either trying to be funny or just struggling to say something to us as we wrapped up our water aerobics class. As I put one of those foam pool noodles on the side of the pool, he grinned and said to me 'That's using your noodle!' I immediately opened my mouth to say 'Did you make that up all by yourself?' but I thought that might be rude. I just said 'No comment', and kept my snide remarks to myself.

As my mother would say 'If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything.'

Day 1778 - Let there be light!

Greetings, Bloggy Lighten-uppers:

You might think I want to talk about Christmas lights - but NO! I am ready to give that a rest.

I want to say that yesterday I really noticed that the days are getting longer, hooray! It is lighter earlier in the mornings and lighter in my evening commute.

That means that spring will be on the way soon...uh...in a couple more months anyway.

I think this December has been the coldest December in Nashville since 1942. I did hear them say on the news that practically the entire month was below normal. I need to check the heating degree days for this December and compare it to last years total, to help us see if our new thermal windows are helping.

In the meantime - come on, springtime! Let there be light!

Monday, January 03, 2011

Day 1777 - Is it real, or is it Memorex?

Greetings, Bloggy Readers!

First - let me say 'Welcome back!' to those of you who have been enjoying a long, holiday vacation.

Then, I want to tell you a couple stories from the day after Christmas.

Our next door neighbors called to see if it was a good time to stop by. It was 11am, and I was still in my bathrobe. I changed in record time.

They walked over, and presented us with a pan of sausage pinwheels, a delicious and highly caloric southern delicacy. Just imagine flaky layers of dough with sausage instead of cinnamon in all the whorls. They didn't last long.

Story 1 -
As our neighbors came into the den and exchanged pleasantries, they looked at the fire.
Mom from next door: 'That's a beautiful fire!'
Charlie: 'I just built it a minute ago.'
Mom from next door: 'Oh! It's REAL? I thought it was too pretty to be a real fire!'

Charlie was appropriately proud...

Story 2:
Mom from next door: 'Thank you for the jam you sent over. My husband didn't tell us about it. I went to get a dish on the top shelf in the kitchen, and I rarely need to get up there for anything. When I did, there it was, hidden where we couldn't find it!'

I was appropriately proud... I have seen that behavior before.

TTFN and have a nice 'Return to Work' day!

Sunday, January 02, 2011

Day 1776 - Makes me want to sign a declaration or something...

Greetings, Blogregation! It's the first Sunday of 2011!

Here's Miss Savi, looking very sharp in her Christmas dress at my sister and brother in laws house on Christmas day. I know it's New Years, but I'm still clinging to Christmas!

ONE more day of holiday weekend, then back to normal again. (some people are cheering, for sure!)

No more Christmas parties, no more Christmas decorations, no more Christmas music on the radio till next year. Boo Hoo!

My tree is still up, but I started putting away the Christmas wreaths yesterday. Lots more 'de-Christmasing' to go.

I visited a hotel in Pigeon Forge, TN that is decorated for Christmas all year round. It is beautiful inside, and some of the theme rooms include decorated Christmas trees.

http://innatchristmasplace.com/

I'm not a Christmas junkie by any means - but I'm no Scrooge, either. I do wish we had another week or two or three of Christmas cheer. There is just something magical about Christmas, I guess.

TTFN and have a great Sunday!

Saturday, January 01, 2011

Day 1775 - But day 1 of 2011. That's 1-1-11!

Greetings, Bloggy New Year Readers -

And Happy Birthday to all the New Year Babies out there too.

Another year, another income tax refund to look forward to. I mean that. Capricorns appreciate such things.

Charlie and I had a very nice New Years Eve - which we spent ignoring that it was New Years Eve.

We tried to see 'True Grit' at the movie theatre yesterday, but it was SO mobbed we decided to skip it. We came home and had popcorn at home and watched the remake of '3:10 to Yuma' with Russell Crowe. Good Western.

We're going out for dinner this afternoon with Charlies daughter, son-in-law, and grandson - that will be fun.

I want to hear about your New Years Resolutions and Predictions! My New Years Resolution is to keep doing what I'm doing. My New Years Prediction is that 2011 will be better than 2010.

TTFN and don't forget to write 2011 on your checks! Happy New Year!
