Day 2291 - So long, May - Hello, June!

Greetings, Bloggy Month Enders...

Here's another cute photo of Savi and 'baby', and I saw the 'MAY' coupon on the door, which works for our last blog of the month.

Today is my sister in law's birthday - but I don't think she reads 'da blog' so I need to be sure to post something on Facebook.

But I digress - I want to say goodbye to May.  So long, Month of May!

The last day of May means it's time to pay bills again.  We also have a maintenance man coming today for a tuneup on our HOME air conditioner.

May felt like a LONG month - did it feel that way to you?  We have a busy June coming up, at least in terms of busy weekends.

TTFN and June is just a day away!

Day 2290 - Fame and Fortunate...

Greetings, Bloggy Famous and Infamous!

I see famous people pretty regularly.

At the airport, at the health club, and here and there around town.

I was in the pool the other day and observed a man swimming nearby with his kids.

I thought 'Hmmm.... I know that person'. Then it came to me - he is one of our local TV news anchors!  I try my best to act cool and ignore that they are celebs.

TTFN and keep those eyes peeled for STARS!

Day 2289 - Leader of the PACK... Ice Pack!

Greetings, Bloggy Back to Work-ers!

I am going on record - Blue Ice saved me from boiling to death the other day.

My friend SY told me she uses those little lunchbox freezer packs to help stay cool when they are on their boat.

When the air conditioner broke in my car on our way back from florida last week, I remembered that.

Even with the windows open a little (you can't roll them all the way down when you're driving on the highway) and the car fan on,  it was HOT, HOT, HOT and MISERABLE, MISERABLE, MISERABLE without a working air conditioner.

It got hotter and hotter in the car.  I was getting more and more uncomfortable until I realized that we had the Blue Ice that we took on vacation, and one of them was right in the back seat in a thermal bag.

Just ONE large block of blue ice made the remainder of the trip bearable.   Thank goodness!

Day 2288 - Memorial Day and Mommy Day!

Greetings, Bloggy Holiday and Birthday Lovers!

Today is my mother's birthday.  Happy Birthday, Mom!

It is also Memorial Day, so we can celebrate my mother's birthday, and think fondly of our fallen soldiers at the same time.

This photo of my mother is from the 1950's, by the way - isn't it awesome?  I had some old family slides converted to digital pictures a number of years ago, and they are priceless.

My mother has already opened her gift from me - we mailed it from FLORIDA while we were on vacation.

The box contained a Helen Steiner Rice book, two tops to wear, and most important - FOUR boxes of Quik Tea Ginger Chai tea.

My mother LOVES it, and the man at the Indian Grocery store where I buy it saved me a CASE to have on hand when she needs a restock!

Happy Birthday, Mother Dearest!  We love you!

Day 2287 - Oops! Better Late than Never!

Greetings, Bloggy Holiday Weekenders!

Here is our little drama girl, Savi, with the Newport Bridge in the background.  I love this picture!

We've already been to the health club this morning, and come home, and I put in a wash after scouring my closet for a particular SPF-30 sunblock shirt that I can't find...

I found OTHER shirts that are in the wash instead, it is BLAZING hot here and I need my very coolest shirts to wear.

By the way - we set a record high yesterday of 95 degrees, and it may get hotter than that today.

We may dodge the heat and go to the movies this afternoon to see MIB III.

Have a wonderful holiday weekend!

Day 2286 - Aliens Sunk My Battleship!

Greetings, Bloggy Memorial Weekend Moviegoers!

Memorial Weekend (also known as Decoration Day) is a time to remember our fallen soldiers ultimate sacrifice.

Memorial Weekend also means COOKOUTS.

Memorial Weekend also means SUMMER KICKOFF.

Memorial Weekend also means POOLS and WATER PARK OPENINGS.

And.... Memorial Weekend means MOVIES.

The Avengers movie is still popular.  Battleship is playing, and the latest Men in Black just opened.

I feel lucky that we have seen two out of three, and may go see MIB (Men in Black) before the end of the Memorial holiday.

What are YOU doing Memorial Weekend?  Inquiring readers want to know!

Day 2285 - It's the Weekend, and Company is Coming!

Greetings, Bloggy Travellers-

It's Friday, Hooray!   It's a LONG WEEKEND, Double Hooray!

You know what to do - march in a circle chanting 'Fri-day! Fri-day! Fri-day!'

Company is flying in this afternoon - a buddy of ours who we have not seen in YEARS!  We are really looking forward to catch up time.

He can only stay the night, because he's off to a wedding later in the weekend.

Company also means dinner out... we'll see where we end up.

TTFN and have a WONDERFUL holiday weekend!

Day 2284 - Where Exactly IS La-La Land?

Greetings, Bloggy Disappearing Acts!

I have finally figured out where La-La Land is....

It's that place in cyberspace that the little spinning hourglass comes from.

Does your computer periodically 'disappear' and go off into space - usually while it's doing an update of some sort?

It makes Charlie so mad when that happens during the day.  Maybe those automatic update applications don't know that PEOPLE MIGHT BE USING THE COMPUTER DURING THE DAY.

Also, software programs are gigantic nowadays - you need a huge amount of disk space, or you are in trouble.

Speaking of space, I transferred some files to our backup storage recently - it took several HOURS for them to copy!

So much for computers doing everything in the blink of an eye.... or less...

Day 2283 - I Should've Been a Star - A Food Network Star!

Greetings, Bloggy Food Fans!

Do you watch the Food Network?  I do!

I have my favorite chefs (or cooks), of course, but I'm telling you - that is one of my DREAM COME TRUE jobs.

Emeril got me started, and I like to watch Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives with Guy Fieri.

Side note - Charlie wishes he could join the MythBuster team.

Me?  I wish I was travelling around the country, eating food, discussing food, cooking food, and telling little stories about my family or recipes in the process.

What a pleasant life that would be!

And NO - No 'Sandra' tablescapes for me... EVER.

Day 2282 - Whatever Happened to Getting the WEATHER on the WEATHER CHANNEL?

Greetings, Bloggy Forecasters!

MANY years ago (in a galaxy far, far away), I was perfectly content to leave the cable TV tuned to the Weather Channel.

Yes, the music was annoying, but at least you saw the WEATHER across the country as well as the local forecasts.

Now, I can hardly stand to watch it because it is almost impossible to get the WEATHER on the WEATHER Channel!

Most of the time they aren't doing the WEATHER at all - they have some show on, or an infomercial with some itty bitty weather information stuck on the bottom or the side or something.

I've NEVER liked the Weather Channel music either, and it used to drive Charlie crazy.  Now, we don't watch the Weather Channel often enough for it to bother us.

Day 2281 - I Don't Have Cellulite, I Have HAIL DAMAGE!

Greetings, Bloggy Gallstones and Hailstones!

I realized the other day that I couldn't possibly have cellulite.

IT MUST BE HAIL DAMAGE.

Those pits and pock marks must have happened while I was asleep during the recent bad weather.

YUP.   Rear End Hail Damage.

I wonder if I can make an insurance claim??

Day 2280 - Let's Just Make Bigger Refrigerators to Help Us Get Thin!

Greetings, Bloggy Shoppers!

I can't believe it, but they have refrigerators nowadays with capacities of THIRTY-TWO CUBIC FEET.

You couldn't POSSIBLY just buy and eat less so a smaller one would work for you.  I am sure THAT will be the answer to the battle of the bulge...

I can't believe it, but they have refrigerators nowadays with WI-FI enabled so you can use an APP on the refrigerator to leave a note or get a recipe.

You couldn't POSSIBLY write a note and put it on the fridge using a MAGNET, that might look old fashioned and messy.

Excuse me - I need to go surf the web... on the refrigerator...

Day 2279 - Cover Your Mouth!

Greetings, Bloggy Weekenders!

I have yet another cute story from the pool...
Three little girls were sitting together (ducks in a row) on the edge of the pool for swim lessons. There was also ONE boy at the end of the line.

The little girls sat primly.   The little boy was fidgety and hyper.

The little girls sat primly.   The little boy started kicking his feet in the water and putting water in his mouth, pretending to drink it.

The little girls sat primly... until the little boy started coughing from drinking the water.  One little girl leaned over and spoke to him.

AND THE LITTLE BOY COVERED HIS MOUTH UNTIL HE WAS FINISHED COUGHING.

I thought that was HILARIOUS!  They pretended he didn't exist until they told him to cover his mouth when he coughed.  TOO funny.

Day 2278 - LUMPS??? EEEEEwwww!

Greetings, Beach Blanket Bingo Gals-

It's Friday, Hooray!

You know what to do, march in a circle chanting 'Fri-day! Fri-day! Fri-day!'

I read a swimsuit description recently and thought to myself 'I have to write a blog about that!'

I quote:

Reasons to love this swimsuit style:
1. Covers your bottom—some of us want that!
2. Smoothes out lumps like magic.

I'll let YOU be the judge of whether or not your LUMPS show through your swimsuit.

Oh, dear...my lumps are showing...must have been my cheap swimsuit...

TTFN and it's best NOT to look.

Day 2277 - Hypothermia? NOPE!

Greetings, Bloggy Swimmers!

I talk about the pool quite a bit. Maybe that's because I go nearly every day.

I really don't get tired of being in the water - I love it.  I even swam laps with flippers on the other day, I haven't done that in a while...

I haven't mentioned that the early spring this year has resulted in the OUTDOOR pool being ready early too.

I have been in the outdoor pool FOUR times already, and it's not even Memorial Weekend yet!

The sky is so beautiful, the water is more sparkly, and looks clearer too.  Colder, though!

Yes, the water is still in the 70's, but I tell myself that 70 degree water is WARMER than the ocean in Maine, Maine, Maine.

TTFN and enjoy your swimmage!

Wednesday, May 16, 2012

Day 2276 - Toe the Line!

Greetings, Bloggy Toe-dies!

I heard a cute story the other day...

A young, married woman has a hereditary trait - oversized big toes.  Her husband teases her about them IN A NICE WAY.

They laugh about it, the way couples do.

I know - you're thinking... so WHAT IS THE POINT?

The couple just had a new baby...

A little girl...

With oversized BIG BABY TOES!!!  LOL!!!

Tuesday, May 15, 2012

Day 2275 - Twofer Tuesday...

Greetings, Bloggy Bargain Shoppers!

Occasionally, ALDI has SUPER DUPER FABULOUS vegetable sales.

Today is the last day...

Cucumbers for a QUARTER.

Grape tomatoes for 50 cents a package.

Baby carrots for 39 cents a package.

You know what? Vegetables taste better when they cost less...

By the way - Aldi - please bring back the Sea Queen salmon burgers!  We miss them, and they were $2 cheaper than ANYONE else's prices, even Trader Joes.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Monday, May 14, 2012

Day 2274 - Monday, Monday....

Greetings, Monday Morning Blah-gers!

Can you believe it is the MIDDLE OF MAY already?  How did that happen?

I think I'd better call Lost and Found, and see if they can locate the missing half of the month.

Speaking of Lost and Found...

A little boy at the pool was crying the other day.  I had to rescue a fallen object from the bottom of the pool for him before he would stop.

I didn't have goggles on and had to feel around a bit for it.

It was a half-eaten lollipop that he was eating IN THE WATER...  YUM-O!!!

Day 2273 - Happy Mother's Day!

Greetings, Mothers and Grandmothers and Stepmothers and Adoptive Mothers and MY Mother-

Happy Mother's Day to all!

I'll share a secret with you.

Mother's Day is EVERY day once you become a mother.

I think about my mother each day, and I'm thankful she's there for me.  My mother is a shining example of what unconditional love is all about. Both of my grandmothers were exceptional women, and I am grateful to have known them.

Being a mother means you think about your children every day, and usually multiple times a day, whether they are nearby or far away.

Being a mother means when you hear someone, anyone say 'Mom!' in the grocery store, you turn your head automatically, even though it couldn't possibly have come from your child.

Happy Mothers Day,  Moms everywhere!

Day 2272 - I'm Ragin' for Cajun!

Greetings, Bloggy Bayou Lovers!

I love me some Cajun food, and I'm going to have some this afternoon!

I love gumbo, red beans and rice, and crawfish etouffee'.  OYSTERS too!

Let's not forget bread pudding, but I'm usually too stuffed to have some.

Doesn't this photo make you HUNGRY?

I am proud to say that I keep a small shaker of Tony Chachere's spice on the counter in the kitchen, AND ON MY DESK AT WORK.  I use it just about every day.

You know what they say - 'A day without cayenne is like a day without sunshine'. Just kidding, but it sounded good.

I will admit that I can't eat REALLY spicy food.  One guy at work brought me some homemade Gumbo one day - IT MADE MY LIPS NUMB!

Day 2271 - What a Great Office Treat!

Greetings, Bloggy Peaches and Plums!

I went to a meeting at work yesterday...

We often have candy, or pretzels, or girl scout cookies, or coffee or SOMETHING to munch on during a long meeting.

This particular meeting was unlike any other.

We had ORGANIC PRUNES to munch on.

I can't say I didn't like them, I had two and they were good.

One of my coworkers ate a couple HANDFULS of them!  I warned him that the after-effects might be unpleasant if he ate too many of them.

The next time you're picking up a treat for the office, consider something DIFFERENT, eh?

Day 2270 - DON'T TALK TO ME!!!

Greetings, Bloggy Chatterboxes!

First - an adorable photo just taken yesterday of Miss Savi and a dolly.  I think SHE is the doll!

She's a chatterbox too.  I spoke to her on Sunday, and she talked for FORTY MINUTES without stopping.  I finally had to say I needed to get off the phone!  Heather said the phone was HOT she had held it for so long.

Next - NOBODY can talk to me right now, I have laryngitis.  No other cold symptoms, but I am as froggy as froggy can be.

My voice cracks and changes octaves, or doesn't come out at all.

I told someone at work that they probably PREFER me to be quiet, but nobody has agreed with me yet.

TTFN, and DON'T TALK TO ME!!!

Wednesday, May 09, 2012

Day 2269 - How Do I DO That?

Greetings, Bloggy Gas Pump Jockeys!

I REALLY needed gas yesterday on my way home after water aerobics. I pulled into one of my usual gas stations.

ALL THE PUMP STATIONS HAD PLASTIC BAGS OVER THEM.

Drat! I thought.

There is only ONE other gas station on my route home.

It does NOT have pay at the pump.  It has old fashioned pumps exactly like the one shown.

First you need to go inside and pay.   Then you need to insert the nozzle before you turn on the pump. Once you turn on the pump, the dial (NOT digital, numbers that rotate) resets to 0's, and then the gas starts flowing through.

I did it.  I didn't like it.   Hopefully the other gas station will get a delivery soon!

Day 2268 - The Post With The Most!

Greetings, Bloggy Readership...

THIS IS A PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT!

If you have not put your Mother's Day Card in the MAIL yet - WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU WAITING FOR?

I know the drill:

'Oh, whenever it get's here is FINE'...

'Oh, I know you love me, it doesn't matter if it's late'...

'Oh, I can go out to dinner ANYTIME so don't worry if you forget'...

And a million other soothing words.

GO TO THE MAILBOX.  MAIL SOMETHING.

EVEN IF IT'S A STICK PERSON ON A POST IT NOTE, your mother will LOVE IT.

I'm Watching You!  GO DO IT!

Day 2267 - Follow the Bouncing... Pig!

Greetings, Monday Morning Blah-gers!

Our friends highly recommend the ribs they buy for their smoker at Piggly Wiggly.

Let's think about this for a minute...

Here's a supermarket with a NAME and a LOGO that is PORK centric.

BBQ ribs (around here) are normally PORK ribs.

How appropriate that the best ribs in town can be found at the sign of the PIG.

Have an OINKing good Monday!

Sunday, May 06, 2012

Day 2266 - No time for bloggage!

Greetings, Blogregation!

I haven't taken time to write a 'good' blog, but I'll tell you a story that Charlie told me.

He had spoken to an aquaintance, who had spoken to a famous heart doctor.

This acquaintance asked the doctor "What are two things I should do to live a long, healthy life"?

The doctor's reply (not an exact quote) "Don't smoke, and wear your seat belt. Everything else is chance."

Day 2265 - The Weekend is HERE!

Greetings, Kings, Queens, and Knaves!

I know, I know.... It is Cinco De Mayo and I am not doing a Cinco De Mayo Blog.

We are attending the Tennessee Renaissance Festival this afternoon instead. That should be very fun - we haven't been in years.

They will have jousting, camel rides (no, not for ME), jugglers, and people in period costumes.

And let's not forget my favorite thing - gigantic smoked turkey drumsticks!

The only down side is the extreme heat - it's been around 90 each afternoon the past few days.

That is pretty bloody hot for the beginning of May, if you ask me.

Maybe it was hotter in the medeival days?  I doubt it!

TTFN and have a great day!

Friday, May 04, 2012

Day 2264 - Teen Fashion Trend? Who Knew?

Greetings, Bloggy Bobby Soxers!

It's Friday, Hooray!

You know what to do, march in a circle chanting 'Fri-day!  Fri-day! Fri-day!'

I totally did NOT know that the current tween/teen fashion trend is to wear MISMATCHED SOCKS.

Did you know that?

Where was I when this was happening?  It might have been like this for years, but I just happened to hear about it yesterday from a lady at water aerobics.

They even have stores that sell mismatched socks as pairs!  Go figure!

What will kids think of next as a fashion trend?  Wearing two different shoes?

At least it's less permanent than blue hair or tattoos or body piercings.

In other words - I'm ALL FOR IT.

Bring on the mismatched socks - and maybe I'll wear some to work one of these days.

Thursday, May 03, 2012

Day 2263 - Let the Pigeons Loose!!!

Greetings, Bloggy Celebrants!

I may totally eat these words, but I've seen some emails from the Blogger folks.

SUPPOSEDLY THE ISSUE WITH SCHEDULING BLOG POSTS IS FIXED.

Can we celebrate just a little bit??  Please??

Repeat after me... Hip Hip Hooray!  Hip Hip Hooray!

I can't tell you how aggravating it has been to remember to take time in the morning to check, log in and publish the blog.

Thanks again to Charlie for publishing FOR me one morning.

TTFN and fingers crossed!

Day 2262 - Oh... WHAT a SPUD!

Greetings, Bloggy Spud-Lovers...

I have found my new favorite product  - hollowed out, frozen potato shells!  The skin is still on.

You bake them, then fill them, and pop them back in the oven to finish them off.

I got them at GFS Marketplace, a food supply store (no membership required).

Charlie and I had scrumptious potato skins with bacon, cheese and sour cream last night, and I put sauteed spinach and garlic on mine as well.

They were ready, start to finish, in about half an hour.  Pretty darn yummy if you ask me.

Now - what kind of creative fillings can I put in those shells???   The opportunities are unlimited.

Day 2261 - Calendar Change Coming Up!

Greetings, Bloggy Maypole Dancers-

It's MAY!  Time to change your calendars!

I look forward to changing the calendars in my lowly cubicle at work.

I have one with photos of my granddaughter on it, and another with photos of my managers at work. They are both stellar calendars!

Time for May Baskets and dancing around the maypole.

I seem to remember winding a ribbon around a maypole once at school, or maybe I just saw it done one time.

Please note that my May Day is starting out on a high note, I got the bloody text to go next to the bloody picture.

*sigh*

TTFN and have a wonderful May!
