Day 1893 - It BEE Friday!

Greetings, Bloggy Beekeepers!

It's Friday, Hooray!

You know what to do, march in a circle chanting 'Fri-day! Fri-day! Fri-day!'

We are having a pot luck brunch this morning at work, and I am bringing sausage balls that I baked this morning EARLY.

But that's not what I planned to talk about today.

Charlie has had his hands full this spring with all his new bees...

The ARRIVAL of the bees was delayed several times due to the cold spring we had.

Since they arrived, there have been TWO (count 'em - TWO) bee swarms out in the 'bee lot' - we are not sure if they are the new bees, Charlie's current hives, or even NEW bees looking for a new location.

Anyway - Charlie has been getting good practice capturing the swarms. In a short period of time, Charlie has gone from tending TWO hives to tending SIX hives.

SIX hives? That's a lotta bees... TTFN and have a great weekend!

Day 1892 - Marcia, Marcia, Marcia...

Greetings, Bloggy Birthday Celebrants!

It's Marcia, Marcia, Marcia day!

You know what to do, march in a circle chanting 'Mar-cia! Mar-cia! Mar-cia!'

I'm sure Marcia Brady was named after Marcia, after all, OUR Marcia was named FIRST.

Here's a picture of Marcia with my grandmother on a birthday a few years ago. Well, maybe more than a few years, give or take half a century... Also notice the extremely unique heated coffee carafe on the table, it looks like a lab experiment, doesn't it?

I hope my card arrived on time, but even if it didn't, we all wish you a very Happy Birthday, Marcia. Cake and pillows for everyone!

Day 1891 - Retired and Extremely Entertaining!

Greetings, Bloggy Retirees and Wanna Be's!

First - YES, I am getting my locker at the health club, but I need to wait till today for the key.

Charlie and I had seen 'Retired and Extremely Dangerous' in the theatre when it came out, but not since.

We got it via Netflix last night, and really enjoyed watching it again. It is particularly fun because the characters are 'older', and so are WE!

If you like action plus funny, go ahead and give it a try.

TTFN and have a nice Survivor Night!

Day 1890 - Lock, Stock and Barrel!

Greetings, Bloggy Lockees and Lockers!

I have a very important decision to make. A deep, personal decision.

It's kind of an extravagance, but I'm thinking of renting a dedicated locker at the health club.

Dedicated means it would be mine and mine alone for a year. I would have a key, not a combination lock.

Every day, I carry my swim bag back and forth from home to pool. It weighs a TON. The regular items in my swim bag include:

A lock, swim suit, aqua shoes, flip flops, beach towel, sun block, visor, goggles, sunglasses, chapstick, brush, comb, hair gel, lotion, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, razor, headbands, plastic bags, and more. I am not kidding.

Supplemental items include snacks, extra clothes, swim sarong, a book, reading glasses, drinks, cell phone, watch, pen and paper, and more. I always have SOME supplemental items.

If I had a locker, I could leave many of those items at the health club, and not carry them back and forth. Of course I'll still need to bring my wet bathing suit home, but just imagine NOT lugging all of those toiletries around!

What do you think? Should I do it? I really would like to.

Day 1889 - That's Such a CROCK!

Greetings, Bloggy Potters!

Did you have a great Easter? We did! We had a wonderful day and a delicious Easter dinner.

I did not use FIVE crock pots yesterday to cook Easter dinner, but I did use THREE.

And what is the reason I only used three crock pots? I'm sorry to admit that I only OWN three!

Goodness, we are a household of TWO people, but have THREE crock pots - how many does a couple need?

I really do love crock pots for holiday dinners. They are great for cooking beans and casseroles and stuffing, re-heating things that were made the day before, and also for keeping items hot during dinner.

I could have used one or two more crock pots today, but had to use regular pots and pans for those items instead. I also had to use the oven, but just for a short time.

Hey! If you let me count my turkey roaster as a gigantic crock pot, I actually have FOUR. TTFN and have a nice Monday!

Day 1888 - Happy Easter!

Greetings, Bloggy Peeps! (get it?)

I never liked marshmallow peeps as much as some people seem to.

I also don't like jellybeans very much, and until they came out with better jellybean flavors, I didn't like jellybeans at all.

My doctor mentioned last week that she had decided to purchase and wear an Easter bonnet this year. I think that's great!

When I was a kid, we would wear little white straw hats with black velvet ribbons around them, white gloves, and patent leather shoes. How fancy can you get?

TTFN and have a wonderful Easter!

Day 1887 - Happy Easter Eve!

Greetings, Bloggy Easter Bunnies!

This is one of my all-time favorite Easter photos of Savannah. Isn't it priceless?

I used to love to color Easter eggs, and I always preferred the eggs to be empty rather than hard-boiled. We would make a hole at both ends of the egg with a safety pin, then blow out the insides.

I can't remember if we made scrambled eggs from the insides, or just threw them away?? Mom, do you remember?

I stopped at the store to get milk last night on my way home.

The elderly man in front of me was buying 4 dozen eggs (they were on sale for a dollar a dozen). The lady bagging groceries asked him if he was going to be making Easter eggs out of them.

He chuckled and said 'No! I might make DEVILED eggs out of them, but not Easter Eggs!'

Today will be two hours of water aerobics, the remainder of my Easter grocery shopping, and some 'company coming' housecleaning.

TTFN and Happy Easter Eve!

Day 1886 - Happy Good Friday!

Greetings, Bloggy TGIFers-

It's Friday, Hooray! Earth Day, too.

It's also Good Friday, and a lot of people (not me, though) get today off.

You know what to do - march in a circle chanting 'Fri-day! Fri-day! Fri-day!'

Are you ready for Easter weekend? I think I've finally decided on my menu for Easter dinner - nothing fancy, but it should be good.

I should say that my mother and stepdad are going to have LOBSTER for Easter dinner, those lucky ducks!

I might change my mind, but I am in the mood for chicken and dumplings, squash casserole, green beans, garlic mashed potatoes, and cherry cobbler with vanilla ice cream.

I know that is a very non-traditional Easter menu, but that's what I'm in the mood for.

TTFN and have a wonderful Easter weekend!

Day 1885 - It's like Thunder, Lightning...

Greetings, Bloggy Storm Chasers!

We've had a lot of thunderstorms the last few days, and last night I drove home in one.

We haven't lost power though, thankfully.

An apartment building in Nashville that was under construction got struck by lightning and burned down.

When I first met Charlie, he astonished me when he said 'It's fixin' to come a thunderclap!'

My response- 'It's FIXING to come a thunderclap?? Could you diagram that sentence, please?'

Day 1884 - Midweek and Midlife

Greetings, Bloggy Middlers!

Here's a picture of Miss Savi at dance class, isn't that cute?

Speaking of cute - I saw a little boy step onto the pool stairs yesterday WITH ALL HIS CLOTHES ON!! Oops.

His mother immediately hauled him out and proceeded to 'smooth' the water off him with her hand. He looked so woeful about it I think he was going to cry.

Another cute kid thing from yesterday... When I got out of my car at the health club, a mother was unloading (or maybe loading) her brood into a minivan. She had a small child slung over her arm like I would carry my pocketbook. Ha!

Blogger has been giving me a time for the last week or two with too few (a.k.a. NONE) or too much white space.

It seems to be working correctly now, so I'll quit while I'm ahead. TTFN and don't forget - EASTER WEEKEND is fast approaching!

Day 1883 - Oops! I forgot!

Greetings, Bloggy Forget-me-nots!

I keep forgetting things, and it seems that everyone I know is forgetful as well.

Is it a new trend, or just that we are all getting OLDER?

Charlie and I tag team to remind each other to bring or recharge our cell phones, remember our lunch, take medication, etc. We go through these mini check lists every day!

Yesterday I forgot to remind everyone that it was the IRS tax deadline, not that anyone was depending on me to remind them.

My stops at the grocery store are better when I have a list, because I'll remember an item one minute, and forget it the next.

And speaking of the grocery store - on my last visit I expected to use up some store coupons that were about to expire. I sorted through them before entering the store, then I checked the date on my cell phone - the coupons had expired the previous day.

I think I've even forgotten to write the blog - but that happens very rarely!

Day 1882 - Pop Goes the... Patient?

Greetings, Monday Morning Blahgers!

Do you know the 'Pop Goes the Weasel' song?

When I was a kid, we had a Jack-in-the-box toy with a clown inside. The tune when you turned the crank was 'Pop Goes the Weasel'. I think of that Jack-in-the-box whenever I hear that song.

Anyway, I digress...

On Saturday, Charlie went to visit a relative who is recuperating in the hospital after a hip replacement operation.

Every now and then, Charlie would hear the 'Pop Goes the Weasel' song playing. He wondered if it was someones cell phone ring tone.

Finally Charlie said something to his cousin about it, asking if it was her phone. His cousin said that it was actually a 'musical alarm' that alerted the nurses when a patient had gotten out of bed when they weren't supposed to!

I think that's hilarious. 'Pop Goes the Patient' is totally appropriate!

Day 1881 - Red Light, Go? NO!

Greetings, Bloggy Stoppers and Goers!

First - I have to tell you (without naming names) that yesterday there was a country music star at the pool while I was doing my water aerobics.

How many of us can say 'someone famous saw me in a bathing suit'? Ha!

Changing subjects - I feel like I talk too much about traffic and bad drivers, but I can't help it.

I'm on the road every day, and see something crazy on a regular basis. Lately, I've been shocked (and appalled) by the number of people going through red lights, and it seems to happen more and more often.

Are people REALLY in that much of a hurry, or do they just tempt fate, or do they just ignore the rules of the road and don't care?

There's a small construction zone I go through every day with a temporary set of traffic lights on a timer, to control traffic when there is no flagman there.

Both Charlie and I have witnessed people (more than once) just ignoring the signal and going through. I wonder if they think 'I don't care, I'm going', whether or not it's legal or safe.

So - be extra careful on the road, because you can't take for granted that other people are following the rules.

TTFN and have a nice and safe Sunday!

Day 1880 - Teriyaki Chicken RULES!

Greetings, Bloggy Chicken Lovers-

Product recommendation today:

I had purchased a bag of 'Bento' fully cooked, white meat, teriyaki glazed chicken chunks recently, but after I had discovered I like them, I couldn't remember where I bought them!

They are heat-and-eat, so it is easy to add them to a stir fry, or take them to work with a vegetable instead of a frozen dinner, or even to heat and eat as a snack or appetizer.

I love them, Charlie loves them, so my buddy 'google' and I set out to disover where they are sold.

Turns out it is Sams Club, here is the link: http://www.samsclub.com/sams/shop/product.jsp?productId=prod1580015

It's really my fault for shopping at so many stores AND having a bad memory!

Day 1879 - One Little, Two Little, Thirty Thousand Little Italian Bees...

Greetings, Bloggy Apiarists!

It's Friday, Hooray!

You know what to do, buzz in a circle chanting 'Fri-day! Fri-day! Fri-day!'

Look at our new family members - all thirty thousand of them...

Don't they look BIG? Eeek! No, I do not do ANYTHING with the bees, that is Charlies hobby.

I do like to go to the beekeepers pot luck dinners, though - they are fun.

Trust me, Charlie can eat all the honey they can provide, he puts about a quarter of a cup on his oatmeal every morning.

I thought you'd like to congratulate us on our new additions - so here they are!

TTFN, have a great Friday and a great weekend!

Day 1878 - I won! I won!

Greetings, Bloggy Scrabble Champs!

Yesterday was National Scrabble Day, I apologize for not mentioning it. (not!)

We had a Scrabble contest at work to celebrate.

You had to blindly draw 7 letters (fake tiles) from a bag, then make the highest scoring word possible with what you have drawn.

Mine was the highest score, mostly because I was able to use every letter.

This is called a 'Bingo', and you get 50 bonus points.

So the Bingo turned a 12 pointer into a 62 pointer, but it only beat the next highest score by ONE point!

So - I am sure you want to know what my winning word was? ReEvict.

TTFN and have a nice Thursday!

Day 1877 - Gas Attack!

Greetings, Bloggy Fuel Conservationists!

I LOVE this picture, it fits really well with what I want to talk about today.

I am pondering something...

My CRV got better gas mileage returning from Florida than it did going to Florida.

So - what was different?

The weather was a little warmer on the return, AND we used a higher grade of gasoline.

If you use a higher octane fuel than usual, MIGHT your car get better gas mileage when driving on the highway?

Inquiring minds want to know, but everything I looked at on the web so far said NO, absolutely not.

Do you agree or disagree?

Day 1876 - You've GOT to be Kidding Me!

Greetings, Bloggy Twofers!

So, yesterday I go back to work. I've been off for a week, driven 900 miles (and more) on vacation, and have had my CR-V now for almost 3 years without so much as a ding on it.

So, I am STOPPED at a light with several cars behind me, and THUD - the woman in back of me runs into the back of my car! I admit, it was not more than a love tap, but it really pissed me off. She was obviously not paying attention at all.

So I signaled for her to pull over to the side, and got out to inspect my beautiful Honda CRV 4-door color white. The woman who hit me did the same, but the look on her face told me that she was 100% TERRIFIED that she hit me. She was visibly shaking.

I didn't see any damage other than a very tiny scratch on my rear bumper, so I said, 'I don't see any damage.' She said 'I don't have any either'. I patted her on the arm and said 'Have a nice Monday', and went on my way.

So, Bloggy Dearests, alls well that ends well. Drive carefully today!

Monday, April 11, 2011

Day 1875 - The Countdown is ON!

Greetings, Monday Morning Blah-gers!

The countdown is ON - for as many things as you are keeping track of!

Today is my friend Will's Birthday. Happy Birthday, Will!

There are four days left in the work week after today.

There is only ONE WEEK left until income taxes are due!

There are thirteen days till Easter.

There are twenty-seven days left until Mothers Day.

In three months, George R.R. Martin's 'Dance with Dragons' book is scheduled to be released.

In three and a half months, the final Harry Potter movie comes out.

Fill in the blanks with your own list! Have a great Monday.

Day 1874 - Hotter than Florida!

Greetings, Bloggy Landlubbers!

It's my last day of vacation, BOO HOO! It's back to work tomorrow.

Nashville set a record high of 91 degrees yesterday - that was hotter weather than we had in Florida!

We had the air conditioning cranking for sure, even in the car.

But back to our Florida trip:

We went to Jolee Island one day, where they have nature trails and a Pirate theme.

Another time we were there (several years ago or longer), I thought I saw a nesting sea turtle in the sand on Jolee Island.

Patiently, carefully, I snuck up, closer and closer, taking pictures the whole way. Step by step, closer and closer, until I could see...

That it was DRIFTWOOD I was sneaking up on. Talk about wasted effort!

Hope you have some summertime weather in APRIL where you are. TTFN!

Day 1873 - Water Aerobics, Here I Come!

Greetings, Bloggy Beachcombers!

Here's a picture of some sandpipers scurrying back and forth as the waves would break on the beach in Destin.

They're so fun to watch!

We wonder what they find to eat in the sand, and marvel at how quick they are!

Charlie is off early this morning to pick up new bees for more hives, and I'm off to water aerobics, then grocery shopping.

TTFN and have a nice Saturday!

Friday, April 08, 2011

Day 1872 - Eeeew! What's THAT?

Greetings, Bloggy Marine-life Lovers!

Anybody know what the heck this is?

I guess it's in the jellyfish family, and some of these had washed up on the beach during the recent storms.

Since we're on our way home, I guess I can reveal now that we've been in Florida for a week!

OMIGOSH! I couldn't wait to find out, and so I looked it up.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is a Portuguese Man O' War, responsible for serious venom issues if it stings you. EEK!

I am very very glad we did not go in the ocean water with these things in there! And I thought the little clear jellyfish were bad enough!

If you want to read more about it, here is the link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portuguese_Man_o%27_War

TTFN and stay safe!

Day 1871 - Eagle Eye and Eagle Eggs!

Greetings, Bloggy Hatchlings!

I am not much of a 'web watcher', living vicariously through videos and live webcams and such.

HOWEVER - Charlie turned me on to this live webcam set up on a bald eagles nest in Iowa.

Some of the chicks (eaglets?) have hatched, and I almost saw one hatch yesterday at 5:30pm, when the mother got up and I saw the shell start to open, with a glimpse of movement inside!

It was one of the COOLEST things I have ever seen.

Here is the link if you want to watch it sometime - you have to endure a 15 second commercial, but that's not so bad.

http://www.raptorresource.org/falcon_cams/index.html

TTFN and Have a Happy Hatching!

Day 1870 - Kids Say the Darndest Things!

Greetings, Bloggy Listeners!

Kids say the funniest things - and I've overheard a few cute ones lately.

If you didn't read this in the comments, my daughter took my 3-year old granddaughter to a baby shower last weekend. The mother-to-be (my cousin) asked Savannah 'Did you bring me this present?' and Savannah replied 'No! That's for the BABY!'

A little boy (who I didn't even know) bragged to me at the pool the other day 'I can ride my bicycle without the training wheels on! AND I'M ONLY FIVE!' I was suitably impressed.

Another funny one involved twin girls, maybe 6 or 7 years old, who evidently are very used to taking turns. They were on vacation, and heading to their hotel room. One said 'It's my turn to use the key!' And the other returned 'Then I get to push the button for the elevator!' Sounds fair to me!

TTFN and I hope you hear something today that makes you laugh!

Tuesday, April 05, 2011

Day 1869 - Fox in Socks!

Greetings, Bloggy Rockem/Sockems!

I've never really liked socks, preferring bare feet in the house, and shoes without socks most of the time.

However, as time goes on, I find myself enjoying cozy, cuddly, super soft socks instead of wearing slippers.

Maybe it's because they are making such ULTRA SOFT materials now.

For example - have you ever felt those spa-type socks they sell? They are just unbelievably soft.

Anyway - I've got Dr. Scholls socks on right now, and I like 'em! For someone who doesn't like socks, I keep BUYING them, looking for the perfect pair!

TTFN and have a nice Tuesday!

Monday, April 04, 2011

Day 1868 - Pudding on the Ritz!

Greetings, Monday Morning Blah-gers!

Bread Pudding, Anyone?

I am not a huge dessert fan, but one thing I know I like is bread pudding - it's probably my favorite dessert after ice cream.

One guy I work with said that more women like bread pudding than men. I don't know about that - Charlie likes bread pudding too.

I've had bread pudding with raisins, bread pudding with apples, chocolate bread pudding, bread pudding with whiskey sauce, bread pudding with praline sauce, and I think one was creme brulee bread pudding!

I have NEVER tried to make it myself though. I don't think it's very difficult, but I know that if I make a pan full of it, I'll eat the whole pan.

That might be bad.

TTFN and have a nice Monday!

Sunday, April 03, 2011

Day 1867 - Let's DO this? Let's NOT!

Greetings, Bloggy Commercial Watchers!

I don't usually write two blogs in a row with complaints, but I'm doing it anyway...

You know the 5-hour energy commercial where the young guy doesn't have time for coffee, drinks one of these instead, and is immediately transformed into Mr. Young Corporate America?

He trots down the stairs adjusting his tie, and encourages himself with a motivational 'LET'S DO THIS!'

His 'Let's Do This!' bugs me for some reason. If he had his act together, he could have gotten up earlier, or purchased a coffee maker that would have coffee ready for him automatically. But NO - his day will now be perfect just by drinking 2 ounces of a caffeine laced vitamin drink.

Yeah, right!

Speaking of the perfect life - I saw someone walking their dog yesterday - FROM A GOLF CART! The dog was on a leash, and ran beside the golf cart. Do ya think the OWNER might have been the one who needed the exercise, rather than the dog?

TTFN and have a nice Sunday!

Saturday, April 02, 2011

Day 1866 - Some en-CHANT-ed evening!

Greetings, Bloggy Weekenders!

Here's a picture of my girls from last summer - I am SOOO ready for warm weather I can't stand it!

Can you believe that I didn't do my 'March in a circle' chant yesterday?

April Fools made a Fool out of me all right...

Speaking of chants, I bought what could be the WORST CD of my life this week at my favorite store - Goodwill. They are only $2.99 and I usually don't bother to return them if they aren't very good, I just donate them right back. This one went back to Goodwill.

It was a chant CD from some mens choir. I had high expectations for it, having enjoyed the Benedictine Monks and other chant CDs.

I didn't read the cover or the liner notes very well, though.

Number one - they weren't good singers at all! Good grief, if I wanted to hear someone DRONE off key, I could (fill in the blank here). It sounded bad, and one track was 10 minutes of badness.

Number two - they were singing in ARABIC, not Latin. What the heck!

The moral of the story is - choral chants make chancy choices... Ha!

Day 1865 - Happy April...Maybe!

Greetings, Bloggy Pranksters!

It's April, and mother nature is supposed to play tricks on the weather in several states. Good luck, Maine!

It's been freezing here, I am so tired of winter this year!

Hey - do you play tricks on people for April Fools? I usually don't.

My sister and brother-in-law were visiting a couple of years ago on April Fools, and he got me good.
We were planning to go for a ride in the country that day. My brother-in-law came in and told me, regretfully, that I had a flat tire!

I totally fell for it, and immediately started 'managing' the situation and getting together a Plan B. I also got Charlie involved, asking him to get his compressor out, etc etc. My bad!

If you're going to play any pranks today, let me know what they are.

TTFN and don't forget to change your calendars today!
