Day 1986 - Goodbye July, Hello August!

Greetings, Blogregation!

It's Sunday, and the last day of July. Time to pay bills again.

Out with the old month and IN with the new. I need to remember to change my calendars tomorrow.

Have you heard that it's bad luck to 'peek' ahead in a calendar to future months? It's a common superstition, from what I've read online.

Do YOU believe in bad luck?

It certainly seems that some people are luckier (or unluckier) than others. I can name a few people with a permanent black cloud over them!

I only have a black cloud over me when I'm trying to pick out a ripe watermelon... That's my story and I'm sticking to it...

Day 1985 - How EXCITING!

Greetings, Bloggy Weekenders!

What a fun day I plan to have today...

Two hours of water aerobics classes, then going to the car dealership to get my oil changed, then running errands.

Golly gee - I don't know whether my heart can take so much excitement...

What are YOU doing today?

Have fun, whatever your plans!

Day 1984 - Lack O Wisdom...

Greetings, Bloggy Wisdom Seekers!

Well, guess what?

I'm talking about my wisdom TEETH, not acquiring more wisdom...

If I haven't mentioned it before - I am over half a century old (no snide comments) and until recently still had ALL of my wisdom teeth.

One at a time, about once a quarter, I have donated a wisdom tooth to the trash bin, with the help of my dentist. I had one of them done yesterday, and I have ONE little 'ol wisdom tooth to go.

Every dentist I've ever had has said 'If you ever get a cavity back there, I can't fill it', but my very nice and efficient dentist recommended my wisdom teeth come out once and for all. I don't need them, and they would only have become a nuisance over time.

The good news? None are impacted, so aside from the time involved, I have not had any trouble so far with their removal.

Another name for this blog might be 'A Yank in Time Saves Nine'. Ha!

Day 1983 - From Sweet to Sweeter...

Greetings, Bloggy Snack Attackers!

Okay - I love Rice Krispie Treats, but I rarely make them from scratch anymore.

When I was a kid, we also made Cocoa Krispie treats, and peanut butter ones too.

I RECENTLY HAD THE BEST RICE KRISPIE TREATS I EVER ATE - HANDS DOWN. THEY HAD CRUSHED UP OREO COOKIES IN THEM.

They get that 'cookies and cream' flavor when you add the oreos to them, which makes perfect sense. I think the ones in the photo have oreo pieces in them that are too big for my taste, but if they look awesome to you, give them a try!

I highly recommend them.

TTFN and let me know if YOU add something interesting to your Rice Krispie treats!

Here's a link to the recipe:

Day 1982 - Midweek and Midlife

Greetings, Bloggers Sweet and Sour!

I made this AWESOME sweet and sour chicken the other day, and it was mostly from a Green Giant dinner kit.

The kit contained the sweet and sour sauce, stir fry vegetables, plus a packet of pineapple.

I added multicolored sweet peppers, some onion, plus rotisserie chicken cut into pieces. It was super-duper-delicious.

I'd like to learn how to make a lower calorie sweet and sour sauce though. If anyone has any tips for 'healthy' sweet and sour sauce, let me know!

I can't believe how good the addition of pineapple was to this dish. I'll definitely have that one again.

TTFN and have a nice Wednesday!

Day 1981 - Caution, Bloggage Can Be Hazardous To Your Health

Greetings, Bloggy Readers!

Warning, Warning, Will Robinson!

You can become addicted to bloggage.

You can get run down on the information highway.

Reading bloggage could result in sleep deprivation and distraction at work.

Significant interactions, sometimes fatal, may be triggered by consuming food or alcohol while reading bloggage.

Please check with your physician before consuming this or any other blog...

Day 1980 - Monday, Monday...

Greetings, Monday Morning Blah-gers!

Today's blog is about SPAM.

No, not the food product, though I do like fried Spam 'n Eggs, and I did compete once in a Spam eating contest.

I hate SPAM - be it unwanted or annoying emails, or phone messages, even junk mail is in the SPAM category.

I got my first SPAM text message on my cell phone yesterday, and Charlie got one at the same time.

So, where did the spammers get our phone numbers, anyway?

Have a nice Monday, everyone, and keep your spams to yourself!

Day 1979 - Hey Mayhem - We Love You!

Greetings, Bloggy Destruction Lovers!

I am loving the 'Mayhem' character on the Allstate Insurance commercials, and everyone else does too!

I like the evil little smile he gets on his face while he emerges from being beaten up, run over, electrocuted, shredded, and basically torn up.

The man who plays Mayhem is Dean Winters, an actor known for playing dark characters. However, another dark thing about Dean is that he almost died of a bacterial infection in 2009, and his heart stopped beating for two and a half minutes.

Mayhap there is a Mayhem Fan Club? Sign me up!

Day 1978 - Saturday Stuffage...

Greetings, Bloggy Weekenders!

I really don't have time this morning for much bloggage, but I did take the time to find a funny photo.

Buddy Joe and I are hitting a 3D showing of Harry Potter after my two hour water aerobics marathon.

Yes, I remembered the popcorn bucket.

TTFN and have a great Saturday!

Day 1977 - Friday, Hooray!

Greetings, Bloggy Stoners!

It's Friday, Hooray!

You know what to do - march in a circle chanting 'Fri-day! Sto-ners! Fri-day! Sto-ners!'

Not really...

It's just that I have found my ideal retirement home. Low maintenance and solid as a rock! Uh... it IS a rock.

Supposedly this is a real house in Portugal. Maybe it's a trick, but I want one!

In my warped mind, it looks a little like a rabbit (head is on the rightmost end) nibbling the grass. Can you see it too, or am I in need of therapy?

TTFN and have a WONDERFUL weekend!

Day 1976 - What's the Weather in YOUR Office?

Greetings, Bloggy Storm Chasers!

I need a full time Meteorologist to predict the weather in my CUBE each day.

What is the weather (indoors) where YOU work?

Different areas of the building have completely different climates. Head to my side of the building, and the hangers on the cube walls have blankets, snuggies, and fleece. I keep a thermometer in my cube, and sometimes it doesn't make it to 70.

I keep a sweatshirt, cardigan, and blanket in my cube at all times.

In another part of the building, office workers are in tank tops, skirts and sandals, and they're still roasting. You can even change climates in just a few steps, going from boiling hot offices to freezing cold rest rooms. (Yes, have a seat. BRRR!)

The widest weather mood swing I've seen was when the A/C was broken, and then repaired. One cube went from 84 degrees down to 67 in a very short time. I wonder if that's a weather record.

TTFN and stay COMFORTABLE...

Day 1975 - Oh, Deer, What Can the Matter Be?

Greetings, Bloggy Bucks and Does!

Yesterday morning, Charlie looked out the window when we got up.

Surprise, surprise, there was a young deer right outside the window! We watched it for a while, and it just made the day start out on a special note.

It didn't seem afraid at all. The deer walked around the back yard, nibbling on whatever looked interesting.

The best part was when it stopped and tried to make friends with Charlies fake deer archery target. It was hilarious! He frisked around and wanted to play, as it was just a youngster and didn't know any better.

I imagine it was thinking 'What a stuck up girl, she won't even play with me'.

The moral of the story is - don't try to bond with 'artificial' friends!

Day 1974 - Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head...

Greetings, Bloggy Rainmakers!

I worked out in the pool yesterday afternoon IN THE RAIN.

First it was just a few drops.

Then it started to rain a little harder, then a little harder, and a little harder.

The families went inside. Then the lifeguard went inside. For a while, it was just me and my water aerobics instructor, and the rain.

A man came out and swam some laps in the rain. When he got out of the pool (it was raining hard at that time), he picked up a wet towel and dried himself off with the wet towel IN THE RAIN before going inside. I still can't understand what that towel was going to do for him! It's a mystery.

Then some 'tweens' came out to play, and even a mom and a couple kids. It rained the whole time.

I didn't even bother to put up my umbrella when I left. No surprise there!

Day 1973 - How Many Horcruxes Do YOU Have?

Greetings, Bloggy Harriers and Potters!

If you are not a Harry Potter fan, then skip today's blog.

Charlie and I went to see the final movie yesterday.

It was very, very good, though they took a lot of liberties with the original story, as usual. NO, I will not give any spoilers.

If you don't know what a Horcrux is, it is a magical object that is infused with a piece of someone's soul. Voldemort, the evil magician, has split his soul into pieces and hidden the pieces in these magical objects to attain immortality.

It made me realize that there are bits and pieces of ME hidden out in the population or in the lab. Am I also achieving immortality, in a sense? I'd like to think so.

I used to give lots of blood. Any recipient of my blood or blood products would certainly count. Anything I've had REMOVED that might be in use by a lab still is 'part of me apart from me' - right?

Anyway - that's my story and I'm blogging to it.

Day 1972 - My Book is Here! My Book is Here!

Greetings, Blogregation!

My Book arrived yesterday, my book arrived yesterday!

Yes, THE book that I have been waiting impatiently for...for FIVE YEARS.

FIVE LONG YEARS.
FIVE LONG YEARS.

Before my granddaughter was BORN. Longer than I've been at my new job. Longer than a lot of things. It is finally here.

However, I can't spend every minute reading it, because we're going to go see Harry Potter today! When it rains, it pours, doesn't it?

TTFN and I hope you have a great Sunday!

Day 1971 - Mersey, Mersey Me!

Greetings, Bloggy Mersey Ferryers!

If you read yesterday's 'British Invasion' blog, you might remember the song 'Ferry Cross the Mersey'.

I believe yesterday I said 'Across', but Wikipedia says it's just CROSS. That's funny, because the LINK says 'across'!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferry_across_the_mersey

There were also two British bands named 'The Merseys' and 'The Merseybeats'.

So - inquiring minds want to know...What was the deal about the Mersey?

Crossing the Mersey on the Mersey ferry is a way to get to LIVERPOOL, and we all recognize Liverpool, home of the Beatles!

So...Now you know the REST of the story! Have a great Saturday.

Day 1970 - The British Are Coming, The British Are Coming!

Cheers, Bloggy Readers!

Continuing my babble about music, I received a new CD set just yesterday (see photo).

It's a 2 CD set of 60's music from British artists, digitally remastered, and I like all of the THIRTY TWO songs on it.

Some of my very favorites include:
'Needles and Pins' by the Searchers.
'Don't Let the Sun Catch You Crying' and 'Ferry Across the Mersey' by Gerry and the Pacemakers.
'The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore' by the Walker Brothers.
'To Sir With Love' by Lulu.
'Wild Thing' by the Troggs.
'You've Got Your Troubles (I've Got Mine)' by the Fortunes.

There's even a Tom Jones song - I know he is Welsh vs. English, so I had to look up the particulars.

From the web:
Both the Welsh and the English are British. Great Britain is the Island which is made up of England, Scotland and Wales. Great Britain is the largest island of the British Isles. The United Kingdom is Great Britain plus Northern Ireland.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Cheers, Mate!

Day 1969 - Goodbye 60's, Hello 70's!

Greetings, Bloggy Music Lovers!

Blog Day 1969 made me think of the year 1969, which made me think of 60's music, and then I knew what I was going to blog about today...

I LOVE 50's and 60's music. I have a lot of cds, and have made THREE (count 'em) CD playlists (nearly 80 mins each) of just 50's Doo Wop music. I haven't even started the 60's playlists, but I have plenty of 60's music when I get there.

Back in the day, we had RECORDS, and record players. I have read some stuff on the 'net that makes me think there is a move to bring back vinyl records.

What I remember best about record players is this: if the record skipped or the needle on your record player needed replacing, you would tape pennies on the arm above the needle to weight it and steady the arm.

What I can't believe is that so many soundtracks and albums are NOT yet available on CD. Whassup with dat?

TTFN and get on with your vinyl groove!

Day 1968 - Extreme Couponing Success!

Greetings, Bloggy Bargain Hunters!

Here's a cute picture of Miss Savi at the beach.

She doesn't know it yet, but I made an EPIC couponing score on a gift for Savi and a gift for Charlie's grandson yesterday at Kohls.

I bought 2 identical $19.99 toy items that were on the clearance shelf for 70-80% off.
I had a $5 off instant coupon that was expiring at the end of the day.
I had an additional 15% off coupon that was expiring at the end of the day.

The price I paid (including tax) for $40 worth of toys? LESS THAN $3.

SCORE ONE FOR GRANDMA!

Day 1967 - Sunburst, Anyone?

Greetings, Bloggy Tomato Lovers!

While I am on a roll talking about vegetables, I tried a new vegetable this week.

They are little YELLOW-ORANGE grape tomatoes called 'Sunburst' tomatoes.

I got a big container of them at Sams Club, and I've just been eating them plain for a snack. They might be a bit sweeter than red grape tomatoes, and they're really good.

Don't get me wrong - I am NOT 'Miss Veggie' all of a sudden. I have to get back on the healthy bandwagon after indulging in fried pies, and fish and chips, and burgers and fries and ice cream over 4th of July weekend.

I think my scale gasped when I stepped on it the other day. Ok, maybe that was ME.

TTFN and have a great Tomato Tuesday!

Day 1966 - Happy Anniversary to ME!

Greetings, Monday Morning Blahgers-

Guess what? I have officially been at my 'new' job for FIVE YEARS!

Happy Anniversary to me, Happy Anniversary to me, I hope I'm fully vested now, Happy Anniversary to me.

Sing that to the tune of Happy Birthday, of course.

For my service award, I received a $100 gift card from the company. I think that is SOOO much better than a paperweight or a clock or a pin with the corporate logo on it.

Hope you have a great Monday, anniversary or no!

Day 1965 - Beet Greens, Anyone?

Greetings, Bloggy Greens Lovers!

Nobody but me eats beet greens here in the South.

Turnip greens are everywhere. Mustard greens too. Swiss Chard, sometimes. Spinach, certainly.

BUT NOT BEET GREENS. That's a Maine thing, for sure. I didn't like many vegetables growing up, but I did like greens, especially beet greens.

I tried to buy beet greens in Amish country. They looked at me like I wasn't right in the head, and said they give the beet tops to the animals!

I tried to buy beet greens at the Whole Foods Market. They don't sell them, they said they'd just cut some off the beets and GIVE me some (to make me go away).

I want some beet greens! Mom - freeze some for me that I can eat when I come to Maine in August!

Day 1964 - Sometimes I just hate MYSELF!

Greetings, Bloggy Weekenders!

I'm a woman, and sometimes I can't stand being one.

There's a lot of catty, cliquey, drama-filled, hormone induced pandamonium out there.

So, what's unusual about that?

My buddy at work told me this story yesterday. A friend of his (someone I don't know) spent 45 minutes ranting and raving about how he hated women, was through with women, had had enough of women, didn't want to be around any women, you get the picture.

After his rant was over, he announced that he had to get going.

Where was he going?

HE HAD A DATE, THAT'S WHERE HE WAS GOING!

Man, can you imagine what that DATE was like - with him coming off of a 45 minute hate fest? Goodness gracious!

TTFN and don't hate anyone you plan to go out with!

Day 1963 - Hot and Cold!

Greetings, Bloggy TGIFers!

It's Friday, Hooray!

You know what to do, march in a circle chanting 'Fri-day! Fri-day! Fri-day!'

Yesterday was a scorcher, AND THE AIR CONDITIONING WAS OUT WHERE I WORK.

It was 78 degrees in my cubicle when I arrived at 7am. That is pretty darn hot. It proceeded to go UP from there.

At lunchtime I couldn't take it anymore. It was 82 degrees, and I was starting to feel woozy. I went home and worked from home the rest of the day.

I heard from a friend at work that her cube went from 80 degrees to 67 later that afternoon. 67 is too darn COLD! We're not trying to get the AVERAGE temp here, we're trying to be comfortable so we can get our work done.

TTFN and I hope you have a pleasant, climate controlled day!

Thursday, July 07, 2011

Day 1962 - Ouch! I've fractured my LANGUAGE!

Does it hurt when you fracture your LANGUAGE? Do you need to take it to the doctor?

Charlie read me a 'for sale' ad yesterday.

The person was selling an armoire, but the ad read something like "Anybody need an omwa?"

I am NOT kidding!

How can you OWN one and not know how to spell it?

Granted, armoire isn't the easiest word in the dictionary, but good grief. You're on a COMPUTER, buddy. LOOK IT UP!

I don't know if I could get over the mortification I'd feel if I was responsible for a fracture in the third degree.

TTFN, tread softly, and carry a big... DICTIONARY!!

Day 1961 - So... Whassup?

Greetings, Bloggy Middlers!

It's the middle of the week already? How did that happen?

Here's a cutie pie photo of Miss Savi in her 4th of July outfit.

Lately she is engaged in some kind of dancing or singing activity in most of the pictures I see! EPIC CUTENESS.

So...Whassup? Wanna hear another joke?

A husband and wife are having some together time, drinking some wine.

After a few glasses, he hears her murmur "I just don't know HOW I could live without you!"

Flattered, he teases her and says "Aw, is that the wine talking?"

She replied "No, it's ME talking to the WINE!"

HAHAHAHHA!

Day 1960 - Wanna Hear a Retiree Joke?

Greetings, Bloggy Blue Hairs!

That was a reference to the silver/gray/blue sheen of some retirees...

Anyway - I have a joke a 70-year-old told me in the pool this morning.

A retiree goes to the health club.

He spots a sweet young thing (probably 50) doing her exercise and wants to impress her.

He asks one of the trainers "What machine do you think I should use to impress that sweet young thing?"

The trainer looks HER over, looks HIM over, and quips "Sir, I think you ought to learn to use the ATM in the hall!"

HAHAHAHA! Have a nice day!

Day 1959 - Happy 4th!

Hi Everyone!

Charlie and I have had a busy day so far. We started the day at 7am with a water workout - yes, we ARRIVED at the health club at 7am.

Happy 4th and the new name of the blog is...

'It only hurts when I Blog!'

Ha!

Day 1958 - Name Change Alert...

Greetings, Bloggy Holiday Weekenders!

In honor of the holiday, I plan to change the title of the blog tomorrow. I'm tired of seeing 'Re-Employed and Bloggin' It', when I've been re-employed for FIVE YEARS!

It's really not a big deal, and it shouldn't alter your favorites links if you use a favorite to get to the blog. (if you have a problem, make a new link)

Yesterday I went to a craft fair with Charlie's sister and sister-in-law, and we had a great time. They had a two piece band playing in the background, and we shopped and talked and ate italian ice (kind of like sherbet) and shopped some more.

I bought some hand puppets for the grandchildren, pink ribbon earrings for myself, and fried pies for Charlie. If you've never had a southern fried pie, you don't know what you're missing. Think of a hand-held piece of pie (the British would call it a pasty) filled with fruit, and fried to golden deliciousness instead of being baked in the oven.

The ONLY bad thing - I stepped on some GUM and now I have gum and grass residue on the bottom of one of my favorite shoes. That makes me so mad!

TTFN and have a nice Sunday!

Saturday, July 02, 2011

Day 1957 - Just a click and a promise!

Greetings, Bloggy Weekenders!

Here's a picture of Savi to keep you company, no time to blog this morning!

TTFN and have a wonderful day.

Friday, July 01, 2011

Day 1956 - It's JULY already!

Greetings, Bloggy Picnic-ers!

It's Friday, Hooray! You know what to do, march in a circle chanting 'Fri-day! Long Weekend! Fri-day! Long Weekend!'

Yes, today is the kickoff of 4th of July weekend. Savi is in costume for the occasion.

Actually, this picture is from the Relay for Life that Savi and Heather participated in.

So - what is everyone going to be doing? I am going to REST, as I am still recovering from my bronchitis.

When I am not resting, we have some visiting planned. I also have craft fair plans, and cookout plans, and swimming plans, and we bought some new camp chairs for our RELAXING plans. I bought some salmon burgers (yes, we love salmon burgers), hot dogs, chips and salsa, barbeque sauce, etc.

What is missing from this picture? ICE CREAM! Sometime over the holiday weekend I am going to have some scrumptious ice cream.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Have a great holiday!
