Day 2108 - Midweek and Midlife

Greetings, Bloggy Middlers!

Here's a cute photo of Savannah gobbling chocolate cake on Thanksgiving Day. She does have a sweet tooth, but loves fruit too.

We would sit on the sofa and watch a movie, and eat sliced apples. She loves those little clementine oranges too - it's time for those to be in season again.

One more comment about Savannah and food - she loves seafood and she loves GRITS! She had grits for breakfast each morning while the grownups had grits and bacon and eggs and toast.

Happy Last Day of November!

Day 2107 - Christmas Prep... or NOT!

Greetings, Bloggy Christmas Trimmers!

Here's a photo of my son in Maine with makeshift snow boots on (also known as plastic grocery bags).

I really wanted to get the tree up this past weekend, and Charlie set it up Sunday night. Thank you, Charlie!

Of course, I haven't put ANYTHING on it. Maybe I'll be motivated tonight to get the lights on... I always put the lights on first, and they are the most difficult part of the decorating process because I like to nest them deeply within the branches.

It's all downhill from there!

Several YEARS ago I bought a bunch of artificial greenery with a nice, red bow that comes with it. It's a mailbox decorating thing I think.

Do you think that THIS year I might actually put it ON the mailbox?

Only time will tell, but I doubt it.

Day 2106 - Mysteries of the Universe

Greetings, Monday Morning Blah-gers!

Do you use an electric toothbrush?

Whether or not I use my sonicare toothbrush, invariably some of the toothpaste I put on it ends up falling off the toothbrush onto the sink.

I hate that! It wastes toothpaste AND my teeth don't get the amount I wanted.

Heaven forbid if I try to catch it if I am using the electric toothbrush. The picture is perfect, by they way.

If I pull the electric toothbrush out of my mouth without turning it off, I get a super duper electric powered fine toothpaste SPRAY all over the mirror, which will require cleaning.

Anybody have a solution to prevent toothpaste from falling off the brush? Inquiring minds want to know!

TTFN and have a nice Monday!

Day 2105 - Rain, Rain, Snow, Snow!

Greetings, Bloggy Weather Watchers-

It's going to rain all day here in Tennessee, but that is fine with me. It beats the huge snowstorm the day before Thanksgiving.

It snowed a FOOT in Bethel, Maine in ONE storm. That could get old in a hurry, but it really was beautiful.

That maroon lump is our rental car.

We rented from Enterprise, and had a very pleasant rental experience. The car was a Kia. It was very easy to drive, and got good gas mileage.

Have a nice Sunday, rain or snow or shine!

Day 2104 - Home again, Home again...

Greetings, Bloggy Weekenders!

Here is a totally cute Savi picture, taken at the Sams Italian Sandwich shop in Maine, Maine, Maine.

I haven't gone through all my pictures yet, but grabbed this one right away.

We are back from our Thanksgiving vacation, and it's back to water aerobics later this morning.

Are you still hitting the Thanksgiving leftovers?

Have a great weekend - I am going to start putting up the tree this weekend!!

Friday, November 25, 2011

Day 2103 - The Foodfest is NOT OVER!

Greetings, Bloggy Digesters...

It's Friday, Hooray! You know what to do, march in a circle chanting 'Black Friday! Black Friday! Black Friday!'

Speaking of BLACK FRIDAY - are you shopping today??? I am NOT.

This is going to be short and sweet.

Twas the Day after Turkage,
And all through the Places,
Not a Leftover was thrown out,
We'll keep stuffing our faces.

Pretty bad, eh?

We're having a 'Day After' breakfast at my mothers this morning, then catching a plane.

TTFN and enjoy your Thanksgiving weekend!

Day 2102 - Happy Thanksgiving!

Greetings, Bloggy Turkey Dayers!

Here is a Thanksgiving Day flashback to the 50's - my mother is the one in the middle holding my sister Marcia.

Isn't this a great picture? Just check out the clothing and the hairstyles and the eyeglasses. Retro lovers would feel right at home with this picture.

Of course, every woman had a dress on, not slacks. I'm kind of surprised that all the men didn't have ties on too.

I'm not quite sure what the greenery at one end of the table represents - was there a food on top of the 'garnish', or is that a salad of some kind? Dunno!

Well, I will be consuming vast quantities of calories today, and loving every gravy filled minute of it!

Again, I am thankful for family and friends, and thankful for Thanksgiving!

Day 2101 - It's Turkey Eve!

Greetings, Bloggy Gobblers (or Gobbler Wanna Be's)

Look - I actually found a turkey stocking! My blog is complete...

Oh, I guess I need to SAY something too.

Twas the night before Turkage,
And all through the area,
Not a turkey was cooking,
Due to risk of bacteria.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving tomorrow, everyone! I won't even mind if you don't read the blog.

We all have a lot to be thankful for, don't we?

Day 2100 - OMG - 2100?

Whoa, Bloggy Counters!

What???

It's day 2100- TWENTY ONE HUNDRED... Whew, that's a lot of blogs.

One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen....

Twenty hundred, Twenty one hundred.

Guess it wasn't that many after all. Ha!

Day 2099 - Another Thanksgiving Tip!

Greetings, Bloggy Planners!

How are your Thanksgiving plans coming along?

This might seem like a common sense suggestion, but take it from me, you might not think of something just because you're too busy planning to remember it.

Don't leave your crock pots on the shelf- put them to work!

Just about everyone has ONE crock pot, I happen to have THREE. You can use a crock pot as a cooking vessel, but they are also perfect to keep food warm, or reheat something that you have made ahead, like mashed potatoes.

Using a crock pot means less competition for oven space and burner space, both are at a premium while you are preparing Thanksgiving dinner.

Good luck, and may the crock be with you!

Day 2098 - Holidays Make Me Hungry...

Greetings, Bloggy Bon Apetitos!

Holidays make me hungry, starting about a MONTH beforehand.

I start craving all my favorite foods, and taking liberties with my diet plan just because the holidays are approaching!

Call it a convenient excuse to partake... yes?

Now add birthdays, special occasions, and FRIDAYS to the mix, and I have a convenient excuse most of the time if I feel a restaurant visit or food fest coming on!

Saturday, November 19, 2011

Day 2097 - Pepsi and Peanuts - a Southern Tradition

Greetings, Bloggy Pepsi and Peanutters!

Hey - before I forget to tell you - the theatres and IMAX at Opry Mills Mall are reopening this weekend, two years after the floods closed the mall. I don't think the other stores are opened yet, except for Bass Pro Shops.

But now on to the blog topic of the day...

Charlie eats peanuts by dumping the bag into a bottle of Pepsi. It is my understanding that this is 'normal' behavior for folks in the Midwest and the South.

Charlie said that Cokes were 8 ounces (which I remember), but Pepsi's (that I didn't drink) were 10 ounces for the same price. I didn't know that!

Anyway, you drink a big gulp of the Pepsi to make room for the peanuts, then carefully pour them in. You drink and chew, drink and chew, and keep doing that till your peanuts and pepsi are both gone.

Sweet and salty AND liquid and solid... Sounds like everything is covered!

Day 2096 - Friday, Hooray!

Greetings, Bloggy TGIFers-

It's Friday, Hooray!

You know what to do, march in a circle chanting 'Fri-day! Fri-day! Fri-day!'

Here's a snowy scene to get you in the holiday mood...

The weather has been so varied lately, one week it's 77 and the next it won't get out of the 50's. You don't know whether you'll need a coat or not, so I just keep one in the car. Do you?

We recently got another indoor-outdoor thermometer because I BROKE our old one after knocking it over on the table.

Oops... Sorry, Charlie!

Thursday, November 17, 2011

Day 2095 - One Week Till Turkage!!!

Greetings, Bloggy Turkey Lovers!

Here is a picture from Thanksgiving 2005 in Maine - notice that there was LOTS of snow that year.

Just one more week till the bird is ON THE TABLE, but we're having a Thanksgiving pot luck dinner at work today, so I get turkey TODAY too.

If your turkey is in the freezer - please take it out. One of the biggest problems with cooking a turkey is when the inside is still frozen when you need to get it in the oven.

You turn it up, pour enough warm water into the cavity to yank out the neck part that is frozen solid inside the cavity, and you end up with an unevenly cooked turkey.

There - that's my big Thanksgiving advice. DEFROST OR YOU'RE LOST. Ha!

TTFN and have a nice Thursday!

Day 2094 - Midweek and Midlife

Greetings, Bloggy Rainy Dayers!

Yes, it's supposed to rain all day today.

You'd think I wouldn't care about rain, being in the POOL nearly every day. But if I need to run errands at lunchtime, I often avoid them if it is raining.

Maybe that's 'nesting', when you just want to stay inside and watch it rain through the window.

It's chilly outside, and gray, and dreary. Some people love that, but I prefer to just stay in and hibernate on a rainy day.

TTFN and stay dry today!

Day 2093 - Do Not Be Afraid, or Continue to Be Afraid!

Greetings, Bloggy Fearfuls!

It's hard NOT to be afraid when it seems that advertising and news coverage and even weather forecasts try to SCARE you into taking something, watching something, or doing something.

Have you noticed that?

A commercial tells about the wonderful benefits a new drug has, then proceeds to list so many side effects you wouldn't be caught dead (ha!) taking it.

The weatherman on our local news channel dispenses tidbits of weather, then cuts to a commercial, then dispenses a bit more weather, then they talk about something else, then back to give you a speck MORE about the weather.

We don't have plain ol' weather anymore - we have SEVERE weather, and WIND ADVISORIES, and WINTER STORM WARNINGS, just to keep you watching and alarmed.

So, the next time BREAKING NEWS occurs - yawn and turn the channel...

Day 2092 - Cowboy Wedding!

Greetings, Bloggy Cowboys and Cowgirls!

Charlie and I went Western yesterday afternoon. We attended a Cowboy wedding, held on a horse farm, outdoors, at sunset.

The groom had on a cowboy hat, the preacher had on a cowboy hat, and on the wedding invitation guests were invited to wear jeans, boots, and cowboy hats.

They had a big BBQ dinner afterward, and both chocolate and white wedding cake.

It was fun, and yes, WE BOTH WORE COWBOY HATS!

Sunday, November 13, 2011

Day 2091 - No Time For Bloggage...

Greetings, Blogregation!

We have a busy day planned, and a wedding to go to this afternoon.

I think I'll take a blog day off, and just say 'Have a nice Sunday!'

TTFN and have a great day.

Day 2090 - I Never KNEW!

Greetings, Bloggy Snifflers -

I never knew until Thursday that MINT makes some people sneeze!

If you look it up online, there are plenty of people that happens to. How did I live all these years without knowing that?

Candy, gum, listerine breath strips, etc - induce a SNEEZE! Who woulda thunk it?

I think stuff like that is cool - kinda like my sun sneezing. And how, you might ask, did I find out about Mint Sneezing?

It turns out that one of our friends (I won't name names) is afflicted, and I brought one on by offering both gum and breath strips.

Day 2089 - Better Watch Out - the Thanksgiving Countdown is ON!

Greetings, Bloggy TGIFers!

It's Friday, Hooray! It's also ELEVEN-ELEVEN-ELEVEN!!! That's AWESOME!

You know what to do, march in a circle chanting 'Fri-day! E-lev-en! Friday! E-lev-en!'

I noticed today that the 'pre-holiday' gas price hike is already happening, they always raise the price when people will NEED to travel more... Grrrr...

I've been getting Black Friday ads in email (Black Friday SPAM).

I need to wrap up some projects at work before the holidays STRIKE. Actually, they strike my waistline and my wallet first, for some reason...

We're having a pre-Thanksgiving potluck at work next week, just to whet our appetites for Turkey and gravy. I'm bringing stuffing, because that's my favorite thing. I'm going to make it the night before in the crock pot, and just let it heat all morning at work.

Have a great Friday and a great weekend!

Day 2088 - Tom Tom, Part Deaux!

Greetings, Bloggy Knights!

Heather, here's a advertisement listing that was several years after March of the Wooden Soldiers (1934). Savi might be a little young for March of the Wooden Soldiers, the Bogey Men are scary!

If you think about it, things were very different in the 1930's. There weren't that many photos being taken, and once Felix (aka Tom Tom) stopped making movies, photos of him would not have been captured anywhere that would have been retained all these years. He lived until 1998 - 90 years.

Here's a blurb about Felix Knight from IMDB:

Although his primary successes were in operetta and musical comedy on stage, he spent four seasons with the Metropolitan Opera Company (1946-47 - 1949-50), where his most frequent roles were Count Almaviva in Rossini's "Il Barbiere di Siviglia" and Arturo Bucklaw in Donizetti's "Lucia di Lammermoor." He spent his last years as a voice teacher and coach.

Day 2087 - March of the Wooden Soldiers

Greetings, Bloggy Babes in Toyland!

One Thanksgiving tradition in our family was to watch the 1934 Laurel and Hardy movie 'March of the Wooden Soldiers', also known as 'Babes in Toyland'.

We often watched it at my paternal grandparents home in Swampscott, Mass, and I can just FEEL the excitement of those black and white broadcasts.

In those days, specials came on ONCE a year, sometimes twice. If you missed it, you had to wait another year until it came on again. There were no vhs recorders, no dvrs, no netflix, no streaming, no nothing. Watch it or lose.

MY favorite character was 'Tom Tom' (pictured), played by Felix Knight. Sorry Charlie, I still get a crush on Tom Tom when he sings, and he still managed to look cute in his dorky 'Tom Tom the Pipers Son' outfit.

If you've never seen the movie, you would probably think it's corny, but to me, it's still magical.

Day 2086 - Please Pass the Razzleberry Dressing...

Greetings, Bloggy Razzlers and Dazzlers!

Do YOU know what Razzleberry Dressing is?

It's a reference to a Christmas treat in 'Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol', which is one of my favorite holiday cartoons.

If you haven't seen it, buy it or rent it - it is wonderful. The only bad part is a loud, garish 'Back to Broadway' number right at the very beginning.

Just fast forward through that part.

Yes, I'm already well into the holiday swing, and it isn't even Thanksgiving yet. I've already watched 'Home Alone', and have listened to Christmas music every day for over a week. I have had it on while I wrote the blog, as a matter of fact.

I'm hooked.... Are YOU?

Day 2085 - Are there stylists in Heaven?

Greetings, Monday Morning Blahgers!

I was very sorry to hear that Andy Rooney passed away so soon after his retirement.

That is just a shame, and happens pretty often, actually.

However, I made someone laugh out loud yesterday, musing about Andy Rooney in heaven.

I mentioned that I thought when Andy Rooney got to heaven, the first thing they would do is groom his eyebrows. They have needed some attention for several DECADES.

There, that's it. I said it, and who says I'm wrong?

Day 2084 - How Did You Like That Extra Hour?

Greetings, Bloggy Daylight Standard Timers!

Well, my photo worked today, I guess it just wasn't meant to post yesterday. No, don't ask me why...

So - how did you like having an extra hour of sleep?

It will be lighter in the morning, but dark is going to be EARLY, EARLY, EARLY.

No chance of my getting home in daylight till next spring.... sigh... And No, the days don't start getting longer again till nearly CHRISTMAS...sigh...

The good news - SOMEONE (Heather) is going to see Les Miserables today! Have fun, Heather, wish I could go with you!

Day 2083 - Fall Back, Whether You Want To Or NOT!

Drat - Blogger refused to upload my nice 'FALL BACK' photo.

Just picture a clock showing 2am and all that...

DON'T FORGET TO TURN YOUR CLOCKS BACK AN HOUR BEFORE YOU GO TO BED TONIGHT.

Some of our clocks reset automatically, and the cable box, and our phones. My car clock though, always needs to be reset, and Charlie always figures that out.

Thanks, Charlie!

I have a busy day planned with water aerobics (gently since I've been sick), then a craft fair.

TTFN, get well Heather and Savi, and don't forget to FALL BACK tonight!

Day 2082 - What was that movie???

Greetings, Bloggy TGIFers!

It's Friday, Hooray! You know what to do, march in a circle chanting 'Fri-day! Fri-day! Fri-day!'

Yes, my immume system is actually working, and I am recovering from my nasty sinus cold. Thank goodness, it really makes me appreciate what NOT feeling sick feels like.

Anyway, I digress... Remember in yesterday's blog I mentioned 'Sleepless in Seattle'? Well, that movie references this other, highly romantic movie starring Debora Kerr and Cary Grant, called 'An Affair to Remember'.

Has anyone seen that movie? It is supposed to be one of the most romantic movies of all time.

I never have seen it, and I am wondering whether or not to rent it from Netflix (by the way, I did NOT cancel my Netflix subscription, unlike a million other people).

Help me, Obiwan Movie Watchers - should I watch it, or should I not?

Thursday, November 03, 2011

Day 2081 - From Seattle to Zombieland!

Greetings, Bloggy Movie Watchers!

I've had a head cold and have been working from home. While at home, I usually have a movie channel on, or the Food Network shows.

Yesterday I watched both 'Sleepless in Seattle' (I just LOVE that movie!) and a french zombie movie called 'Mutants'.

How is that for diversity?

Have I mentioned that Cheryl and I saw 'Real Steel' last weekend, starring Hugh Jackman? The female lead was the girl from 'Lost' - she did a good job too. It's a pretty good family film, and as you know, I really like Hugh Jackman movies...

Have a nice Thursday and TTFN!

Day 2080 - A Scary Princess!

Greetings, Bloggy Costume Wearers-

Here is the picture of Savannah in her Halloween costume as a scary princess.

Of course she looks adorably scary.

Heather - did you dress up too?

Someone at my work was Woody from Toy Story, and his kids were other characters from the movie. I like that.

Have a nice midweek, I have had a cold and worked from home yesterday. I'll do that again today, as nobody wants me to come in and pass germs around to everyone else.

Go get some Halloween candy on clearance! I can't do it until I feel better.

Tuesday, November 01, 2011

Day 2079 - Halloween Plus One!

Greetings, Bloggy Clearance Shoppers!

Better hit the stores today, Halloween candy is going to be half price!

I hope the Halloween pretzels go on clearance too. If your child has brought home a ton of candy, do you bring any of it to work?

We consume a lot of goodies at work, especially on more stressful days. Do they have a lot of treats at your work too? I know they do at schools and doctors offices, parents and patients are always bringing stuff in to share.

I get a lot of visitors in my cube that way - they come to say hello, but they also know I have FOOD. Just call me the 'Munchie Mamma'.
