Day 1833 - You've Got a Phlegm in Me!

Greetings, Bloggy Family and Phlegms-

SO LONG, FEBRUARY! Come on, MARCH!

One week ago yesterday was the day I lost my voice. Ever since then, I've had a deep, personal relationship with PHLEGM.

Seems like my buddy Phlegm (sounds like a bad cowboy name) is moving in to stay. It's been a week and I am still coughing and blowing, though less and less as time goes by.

Thank heavens for Puffs Plus Lotion tissues, they have totally saved my nose from looking like Rudolph.

By the way - I got a free travel pack (freebie sample) of facial tissues at Sams Club yesterday. I said (tissue snob that I am) - 'Are THESE as good as Puffs Plus?' The man handing out samples said 'I can't say, but I'll bet they're cheaper!'

I'm sure that's true, but they can't possibly be as good, I am stuck on Puffs Plus for life.

Love thy Phlegms as well as thine enemies, and have a nice Monday!

Day 1832 - In the PINK!

Greetings, Blogregation!

I went to Sams Club yesterday. Right in the front of the store they have a big display of huggable, fuzzy, furry, fleecy, cuddly, Easter-pastel-colored blanket throws. This picture is not even close to the real thing - it is MUCH fuzzier and cuddlier.

Another woman was as entranced by these blankets as I was - and she and I picked up (and squeezed) one color, then another, then another. I said 'I want one!' She said 'I want one too!', though we both walked away to start shopping for what we needed.

I didn't make it very far, and grabbed the pink one and put it in my cart. Later, the woman who did NOT buy one passed me and saw the blankie in my cart. She WAILED out loud 'Oh! YOU GOT ONE!' I truthfully said, 'I couldn't resist', which was true. I wonder if she went back and bought one, just because I set the example.

I came home, washed and dried it, and was blissfully wrapped up in it when it was time to write the blog. I guess I am becoming a 'blankie junkie' - I just can't spend any time sitting down without a blanket on!

TTFN and have a nice Sunday!

Day 1831 - Tis the Season to be...Pudgy!

Greetings, Bloggy Weekenders!

I looked out the window this morning, watching the various woodpeckers queue up for their turn at the suet feeder.

A big, fat woodpecker (or sapsucker or whatever it was) was hogging the whole suet block, with a smaller woodpecker waiting patiently for a turn. The big one ran him off.

Side note: the birds also queue up at the black-oil sunflower seed feeder, it looks like the line at a carousel.

I started making breakfast, looked out the window again, and that fat ol' woodpecker had pulled the suet feeder right off the post! He must be getting awful fat for the suet cage not to hold his weight.

The suet cage is on the ground now and Charlie will go set it back up later this morning.

The moral of the story is - spring is coming, time to diet!

Day 1830 - Daffodils are UP and zippers are DOWN!

Greetings, Bloggy Bloomers-

It's Friday, Hooray!

You know what to do - march in a circle chanting 'Fri-day! Fri-day! Fri-day!'

I have a few 'bloomer' stories to tell...

First - I know my New England family will be jealous to hear that the daffodils are blooming here - hooray!

That is one of my most favorite things about the South - how early the signs of spring appear.

Changing to a different bloomer story - there was a workman in our building yesterday replacing light fixtures. His zipper was down, and I just couldn't bring myself to tell him. I thought through a few different things to say, but I just couldn't do it.

Yet another bloomer memory - at my former job. A coworker (who I barely knew) was leaning on my cubile. He had a 'zipper down' issue, and I DID tell him about it. What was funny was his response... He said 'Wow! I sure am glad I wore underwear today!'

That's all the 'bloomage' I can recall... Have a great Friday and a great weekend!

Day 1829 - Lap-topology...

Greetings, Bloggy Couch Potatoes!

I have finally arrived in the laziest of places. I've learned how to type on the laptop when I am in my recliner with my feet up.

Let me rephrase. I have my feet up in the recliner, plus a fuzzy blankie on my lap, THEN the laptop.

Lately I've been writing my blog in that position. It's just TOO much effort to SIT UP and use the laptop.

My wireless mouse is resting on the arm of the recliner, and works just fine from there. I'm actually quite comfortable, thank you very much.

We are having a chili pot luck lunch at work today. I am bringing cornbread and queso to go with the various chili entrees.

Hope you have a tip-top, laptop day! TTFN!

Day 1828 - Let 'em Eat Cake!

Greetings, Bloggy Birthday Blitzers!

Today is yet ANOTHER birthday, my friend who is always referred to as 'SY' on the blog.

Happy Birthday to you...
Happy Birthday to you...
Happy Birthday, dear SY...
Happy Birthday to you...

You know, I don't usually have birthday cake on my birthday. I just don't like cake that much.

When I was a kid, my favorite cake was chocolate cake with white frosting. And speaking of frosting, I like frosting/icing even less than cake! If I eat cake I don't usually eat the icing. However, lots of people (my family members included) do expect cake on their birthday, and don't think it's a celebration without it.

So - what kind of cake do I like nowadays? I like lemon filling inside a yellow cake. I like carrot cake, and I like coconut cake (another very moist, tender cake). I also like various kinds of cheesecake, and I like ice cream cake the best - the kind with little crunchy cookie bits in it.

See what talking about birthdays does? Makes you hungry for cake!

Day 1827 - I Been Dazed and Confuzed...

Greetings, Bloggy Dearests -

Here's a really cute photo of Miss Savi being silly.

Let's just pretend she's dazed and confused, but it's really ME I'm talking about!

What am I confused about? Maybe I should say 'What am I NOT confused about?' Here are a few examples...

Why are pillowcases so hard to put on, but slide off so easily?

Why does the most comfortable sleep position make my hands or feet go numb?

Why does every package of bacon look different and cook differently?

Why can't I remember to go to the bank and deposit my whopping $5 toothbrush rebate check?

Why does the pool always feel like it's a different temperature, when I know it's not?

Just a few thoughts to ponder. TTFN and have a nice day!

Day 1826 - No Voice, and No Brain. Lucky me!

Greetings, Bloggy Doctors, Dentists and Shrinks...

I caught a cold a few days ago that settled in my throat.

I was froggy on Saturday and mostly voiceless on Sunday.

I posted on Facebook that Charlie might like me better this way (voiceless - get it?)

In addition, my cold seems to have fogged up my brain as well (yeah, right). At 7pm on SATURDAY I burst out with 'Charlie! It's 7 o'clock! Amazing Race is about to start!' Uh... No, Amazing Race is on SUNDAYS, not Saturday. I was a day early and a dollar short. Oops.

Despite the cold and laryngitis, Charlie and I enjoyed going to see 'Unknown' yesterday afternoon, and got our new 2011 popcorn bucket with $2.50 refills for all of 2011.

Have a great Monday, especially those of you who have Presidents day off!

Sunday, February 20, 2011

Day 1825 - Happy Birthday, Heather!

Greetings, Bloggy Celebrants-

It's Heather's birthday today, hooray!

Happy Birthday to you...
Happy Birthday to you...
Happy Birthday, dear Hezzu,
Happy Birthday to you...

Here is one of my favorite pictures of Heather and Uncle Ray.

Heather was always annoyed at being born in the winter. She said 'I want a pool party, and you can't have a pool party in the winter!' Her birthday party was usually a roller skating party with pizza at the local roller rink.

So - what are the big birthday plans for today, Heather? Should I bring you a new pair of roller skates?

I'll be there in 2 more weeks to celebrate yours, Lyn's and Savi's birthday. I guess some people will also have Monday off for Presidents Day, but I don't. Hope you have a long weekend!

TTFN and have a great birthday!

Day 1824 - No time for bloggage

Greetings, Bloggy Weekenders-

I had a topic in mind for the blog, but forgot it as quickly as I thought of it. Oops!

Charlie is meeting me to go out for lunch after my water aerobics classes, so I'll say 'Have a nice day!' and let you go enjoy your day.

TTFN!

Friday, February 18, 2011

Day 1823 - Friday, Hooray!

Greetings, Bloggy TGIFers -

It's Friday, Hooray!

You know what to do - march in a circle chanting 'Fri-day! Fri-day! Fri-day!'

Got any plans for this weekend? A new season of 'Amazing Race' begins on Sunday, so we'll definitely watch that.

I don't know if we have any other concrete plans except hitting the health club once or twice (once for Charlie and twice for me).

Have a great Friday and a great weekend! TTFN!

Thursday, February 17, 2011

Day 1822 - Happy Birthday, Lyn!

Greetings, Bloggy Birthday Gals and Guys -

Happy Birthday to Sister Lyn today!

Happy Birthday to youuuuu,
Happy Birthday to youuuuu,
Happy Birthday, Dear Lynnie,
Happy Birthday to youuuuuu!

Lyn is pictured on the right in blue, with me smirking next to her in pink. This was a few years ago (or more) of course!

Check out the cute blue hair bow as well.

Lyn has an excellent memory of events when we were small. She probably remembers whether this photo was taken at Christmas or Easter or Thanksgiving - or perhaps my mother remembers and can tell us.

I'll give Lyn a call sometime today and say 'Happy Birthday'.

Changing subjects - I completely forgot that the new season of Survivor started last night, but thankfully Charlie remembered and taped it for me.

TTFN and have a great Thursday!

Day 1821 - Midweek and Midlife

Greetings, Bloggy Moon-Doggies!

There was a beautiful full moon last night when I was driving home.

I typically say 'Hi Moon!', and last night was no exception.

Before the moon came out, there was also a spectacular sunset, with a deep, lava-orange sky and black clouds here and there. Really cool.

Charlie went fishing yesterday, and is going again today. What's that saying - 'Catch fish while the sun shines', right? Uh...maybe not.

It is supposed to be a bright, beautiful, 65 degree winter day today! Hooray!

Have a great Wednesday, and enjoy that full moon!

Day 1820 - Very a-PEEL-ing...

Greetings, Bloggy Bargain Hunters -

Reminder - Valentines chocolates are going to be on clearance, starting today! Yahoo!

I need to go get some individually wrapped chocolates of some sort, I can't resist CLEARANCE.

Speaking of bargains - you might think this is cheap of me, but I just thought 'waste not, want not' and gave it a try.

I made mashed potatoes Sunday night for shepherds pie. I peeled large, red potatoes thickly with a paring knife, and saved all the peels that didn't have an eye or a bad spot on them.

I arranged the peels on some aluminum foil, sprayed them with Butter Pam spray, and sprinkled them with cajun seasoning. I baked them at 400 degrees for half an hour or so, giving them a turn now and then. They were absolutely delicious, just as good as regular french fries or better.

I don't know why I never tried cooking them before - I've always thrown them away if I peeled the potatoes!

TTFN and why not try something new today!

Day 1819 - Happy Valentines Day!

Greetings, Bloggy Hearts and Heartlesses-

Happy Valentines Day!

We are having a PIE pot luck luncheon at work today, and I am bringing homemade shepherds pie. I hope it will be deemed delicous by the folks at work.

I was shopping at Super Target yesterday, and a man got into line behind me with just ONE item, a Valentines Day card.

I said 'You can go in front of me', which he very much appreciated.

He showed me the card, and it was a Dora-the-Explorer Valentine card. He explained that the card was for his granddaughter. How cute was that?

Have a wonderful Valentines Day, friends and family. Love you all! xx-oo-xx

Day 1818 - Twas the night before Valentines, and all through the house...

Greetings, Bloggy Heartbeats!

Here is a photo of some very inappropriate Valentine sentiments - but they are really funny!

Speaking of funny - Charlie and I drove by a church sign yesterday that said 'Google does NOT have ALL the answers'. Ha!

Charlie and I and our friends TY and SY went out for Valentines dinner at our FAVORITE Cajun place, Papa Boudreaux's. It was SOOO good.

We had fried oysters, boudin balls, gumbo, scallops, fried catfish, crawfish/corn/shrimp bisque, and more. Plus 2 baskets of french bread and butter. Heaven!

We are going to the health club this morning to work off as much of it as possible. Just having the SUN out yesterday and today will be a treat, and warmer temps each day. That is just great.

Happy Valentines Eve, everyone!

Saturday, February 12, 2011

Day 1817 - Early Signs of Spring...

Greetings, Bloggy Spring Fevers!

Some of the earliest signs of spring around here are:

Flocks of robins passing through.
Skunks on the move.
Rabbits on the move.

And last but not least, the baby calves are being born!

The ones I have noticed are black angus calves, and they are so cute! They look so sweet, lying in their pastures or frisking around.

I remember when our next door neighbors had one. The calf would periodically escape and come over to our yard to visit. It seemed to like Charlie the best, and would butt him with his head. Ha!

We are going out for a pre-Valentine dinner this afternoon, and I am looking forward to it.

TTFN and have a great Saturday!

Day 1816 - Waiting for SPRING!

Greetings, Bloggy TGIFers!

It's Friday, but it's not spring yet. Bummer, dude.

This isn't my photo - but it is PERFECT for demonstrating how we wistfully look outside, hoping for sunshine, warmth, and flowers!

We can at least celebrate Friday, though. You know what to do - march in a circle (after you've shoveled off the snow and ice) chanting 'Fri-day! Fri-day! Fri-day!'

Did I mention a few months back that I got a wisdom tooth out? Yes, I still had my wisdom teeth, even at my advanced age.

I need to have all of them done, though we are only doing one at a time.

I had wisdom tooth #2 done yesterday. What fun that is! It actually isn't too bad...

They numb you up first so you can't feel it. First my CHIN got numb, then the right side of my tongue, then my lower lip, and inside my mouth. It took a while before I was ready for the crane to come (uh, I mean the dentist with his tools) and pull out the tooth.

If there's anything that will keep me from grazing while I am home, a hole in my mouth is a good incentive. I don't want anything yucky to fall in there till it closes up!

I am sure you wanted to hear that. Have a nice day.

Day 1815 - Is it Lasagna or Taco Pie?

Greetings, Hungry Guys and Gals!

I had an idea the other day to make lasagna, but without lasagna noodles. Instead, I was going to substitute some whole grain tortillas that I like.

Well -who woulda thunk it- there are already a bunch of recipes for this type of casserole. I even found a photo of one, which looks pretty darn good to me.

No, I haven't made one yet, but if you have, please tell me about it.

Changing subjects - we didn't get too much snow yesterday, just enough to cause slippery roads and traffic problems all over the state... The good news - next week is supposed to be in the 50's, and I hope it stays that way.

I took out my Easter Egg soap dishes yesterday, and it's time to replace the reds and greens of winter decorating with pinks and purples and pastels for Easter!

Hmmm - I think I need an Easter Egg blanket throw for the Den - don't you? TTFN!

Wednesday, February 09, 2011

Day 1814 - Midweek and Midlife

Greetings, Bloggy Middlers!

Charlie gave me some early Valentines flowers - red tulips that are just starting to open. BEE-YOU-TI-FUL!

They look alot like these, actually, but mine are even bigger. They are so fragrant you can smell them when you walk into our den!

I am SO ready for spring, but we are supposed to get a snowstorm today. Sheesh.

Moving from spring to summer, I have even been craving watermelon and cantaloupe. I bought a mini watermelon yesterday, but haven't cut it yet to see if it is ripe.

I've read that you're supposed to thump a watermelon and it should sound hollow, AND I've read that there should be yellow on the rind where the melon was on the ground. I choose melons that qualify, and sometimes they're ripe and sometimes they're not!

If you have a better suggestion for choosing ripe melons, please let me know.

TTFN and have a nice Wednesday! Stay warm and hope for spring!

Day 1813 - Twofer Tuesday

Greetings, Bloggy Wash and Wearers!

I finally picked up two boxes of Color Catchers (yes, just like the photo) this past weekend at the Spring Hill Super Kroger store.

I was shopping for SuperBowl Sunday plus my regular weekly grocery shopping. The final bill was...uh...surprisingly big! Ha!

What is a 'Super Kroger'? That means that furniture and household goods are sold in addition to the grocery and pharmacy sections. I didn't intend to write an ad for Super Kroger, but I do like to go there once in a while. They have alot of items the other stores don't carry.

We had some snow yesterday, but our area didn't get the worst of it. We are expecting another snow storm Wednesday, with snowfall estimates of 1-4 inches. Oh goody, more snow.

Remind me again that this is the South... before the next snowstorm.

Monday, February 07, 2011

Day 1812 - Cat on a Cold Tin Roof!

Greetings, Monday Morning Blah-gers!

First: We had a CAT walking around on the barn roof yesterday morning. It was yowling to get down, and the next door neighbors's horses were watching the show. It figured out how to get down shortly afterward.

Second: Congratulations to Green Bay and all the Packer fans out there. Cheese heads! Cheese heads! Cheese heads!

Third: Did you hear Christina Aguilera sing the wrong words to the national anthem? Good grief.

THANK YOU to our friends TY and SY for such a good time on Superbowl Sunday.

TTFN and I hope it's a great start to a new work week. Now it's time to shop for Valentines Day!

Sunday, February 06, 2011

Day 1811 - SuperBowl Sunday is Finally Here!

Greetings, Bloggy SuperBowl Watchers!

Are you going to watch the SuperBowl today, or just use this opportunity to overeat while you visit with friends and 'kind of' watch the game? For me, it's totally the latter.

We are going to TY and SY's place for the SuperBowl, and we'll enjoy their company and their high-def TV. We are bringing cheese and crackers and shrimp cocktail and beer. Sounds yummy already, doesn't it?

And don't forget, there are usually brand-new commercials that sometimes are more interesting than the game itself. (That is true some years, hopefully not this one!)

Charlie and I are starting our day with breakfast, then a workout, hoping to burn some calories before we spend the rest of the day feasting.

Enjoy the Superbowl, or just enjoy Sunday if you aren't interested in the game.

Saturday, February 05, 2011

Day 1810 - Confessions of a Flasher...Uh, Hot Flasher

Greetings, Bloggy Flasherettes!

Readers, are you troubled by periodic hot flash episodes?

Do you feel sweat breaking out on your neck and chest?

Do you get hit by a heat wave after eating, taking medicine, or drinking a hot drink?

Do you periodically have to disrobe to cool down, or throw off all the covers in bed, only to be freezing soon after?

If you answered 'Yes' to any of these questions, you have joined the club.

One true story my friend told me when I mentioned hot flashes...

She was dating a younger man (lucky gal!).

She said the good thing about dating younger men is that they don't recognize a hot flash - they think it is THEM and take the credit for getting you all hot and bothered! I found that HILARIOUS.

ONE more day till Superbowl! Have a great weekend!

Friday, February 04, 2011

Day 1809 - Friday, Hooray!

Greetings, Bloggy TGIFers!

It's Friday, Hooray!

You know what to do, march in a circle chanting 'Fri-day! Super-Bowl! Fri-day! Super-Bowl!'

Yes, it is only fair to give equal time to the Steelers after talking about Green Bay yesterday.

It's amazing how many people around here have family or friends in Wisconsin OR Pennsylvania.

They are proudly wearing their Team colors and they are busy boasting about who is going to win, and by how much.

We are allowed to wear Team Jerseys today at work, but the only teams I have are the TN Titans, and the hockey team the Predators. Hmmm.... No matter, I'll likely wear one of them anyway.

TTFN and let me know if you are rooting for the Steelers, and why!

Thursday, February 03, 2011

Day 1808 - Is it Superbowl Yet? NOPE!

Greetings, Bloggy Superbowl Countdowners!

So - who are you rooting for on Sunday - the Green Bay Packers or the Pittsburgh Steelers?

I think I'll be rooting for Green Bay because I have some family in Wisconsin - that's as good a reason as any.

I am looking forward to tomorrow, because we are having a 'free pizza' luncheon at work in honor of the Superbowl. We also get to wear tennis shoes and team jerseys, which would normally be a no-no.

Can't hardly hate that, now can ya?? I hope all your Superbowl plans are coming together - blizzard or no blizzard!

Popcorn? Check.
Peel n Eat Shrimp? Check.
Pizza? Check.
Chicken Wings? Check.
Chips n Dip? Check.
Beer? Check.
More Beer? Check.

Just kidding about the extra beer. Maybe. Sorta. Possibly. You'll never know.

Day 1807 - Midweek and Midlife

Greetings, Bloggy Middlers!

Happy GroundHog Day!

Are you frozen yet?

Inquiring minds want to know how everyone is faring with this mega-storm that is sweeping the country?

We just got wind and rain yesterday, thankfully it was too warm here to snow!

The media is having a great time with the storm. Can you believe that the Weather Channel pre-empted their regular programming schedule to FOLLOW THE WEATHER? How crazy is THAT?

I forced myself to go to water aerobics class last night, even though it was cold and rainy and I just wanted to go home and get under a blanket!

Be very careful, stay safe and warm, and spring will be here before you know it!

Day 1806 - Dog Day Afternoon

Greetings, Bloggy Barkers-

Happy February 1st! February makes me think of SUPERBOWL FOOD....

Would you LOOK at the size of this hot dog! Good grief! Even the side item of french fries are super gi-normous.

I love hot dogs, especially kraut dogs and Coney Island style hot weiners. No, I don't know of anywhere around here that sell hot dogs like the one pictured.

However, I laughed out loud the other day reading our local coupon book (similar to the Entertainment book) called 'The Citipass'.

Would you believe there is a hot dog stand in Nashville named 'I Dream of Weenie?' (No, the picture is not a 'Dream of Weenie' dog, it is from a German restaurant in some other state)

They are closed during the winter, but will open up again March 1st. Let me know if you've ever had one of their dogs. The name is HILARIOUS!

http://www.myspace.com/eastnashvilleweenery

TTFN and have a happy dog day afternoon!
