Day 1955 - The Price You Pay for PERKY...

Greetings, Bloggy Perkees and Perkettes!

Okay. I'm pretty perky, as perky goes...

People call me Suzy Sunshine, Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm, and 'Squeaky' with no prompting.

But my Perkiness only goes so far. I could use some 'Perkage' enhancements.

Why wasn’t I born with a cute little kitten sneeze, Meg Ryan teeth, clear skin, and no chance of cellulite?

In the morning when I get up, my eyelids should look perky, not droopy, not puffy! My hair should be permanently coiffed without product tampering. I should have a naturally athletic build and look good in shorts. Now THAT is perky.

I am going to rename my bras to ‘the jaws of life’. I depend on their capture, separation, and height adjustments on a daily basis to save my somewhat-perky look.

There’s a DNA modification opportunity for ya - the PERKY GENE!

Day 1954 - I have the Bronchial PLAGUE!

Greetings, Bloggy Cough and Cold Sufferers!

I actually got sick this week and had to work from home and stay out of the office.

For the last 2 days I've run a fever of 100-ish, and had chest congestion. Turns out that I have bronchitis, and am now on antibiotics.

If I've ever had bronchitis in the past, I don't remember it! Good thing I went to the doctor before it turned into pneumonia.

It's okay to feel sorry for me and post lots of gooey sympathy comments.

TTFN and hopefully I am on the mend starting today.

Day 1953 - An App a Day Keeps the Doctor Away

Greetings, Bloggy Geeks, Droids and iPhoners!

I don't have a smart phone. I don't have an iPhone or iPad. I don't have a Droid. I don't have a tablet.

In short, I am WAY obsolete.

There are SO many apps out there to make our technology-filled lives even more dependent on these things. I mean that in the nicest way. My next phone WILL be a smart phone, and I WILL have apps, I just don't have them yet. I should be writing apps, because people are making astronomical amounts of money at a dollar or two a pop.

Here's just a few apps of interest for ya...

There are phone apps where you can scan a barcode in the grocery store and get the nutrition information for the product. I think that is awesome.

Think tattoos are cool, but don't want to have them? There is an app where you can add fake ones onto your photos so you LOOK 'tatted' but don't mark yourself up for life.

And I just heard about apps where a guy can track his girlfriends' (plural) monthly cycles, and there are apps for women to track their fertility or 'horniness' cycles.

If you could invent an app, what would you invent?

Day 1952 - Mysteries of the Universe

The mysteries of the universe are many, and multiplying...

WHY can’t you easily fix a pillowcase that got twisted when you put it on the pillow?

WHY do they show the same commercial twice sometimes?

WHY isn't the weather forecast ever RIGHT?

WHY don’t you need a coupon until just after it has expired?

WHY does everyone drive so FAST in parking lots?

Why do socks disappear in the wash and sometimes NEVER reappear?

And of course I have to say this again and again and again – WHY does every package of bacon cook differently?

I don’t have the answers, silly, how could these be mysteries of the universe if I knew the answers?

Day 1951 - Just a bikini and a six pack...

Greetings, Blogregation!

Okay, I see lots of healthy, fit people at the health club, and aspire to be one of them someday.

However, I do NOT usually see WOMEN with six-pack-abs, and I really don't think I need to be THAT fit.

The woman with the 2 piece bathing suit and the six pack was even a MOM, which just isn't fair. She must spend all her time in the health club, pumping iron while I am at Sams Club pumping gasoline and picking up rotisserie chicken...

That's all I have to say about it.

By the way - we watched 'Appaloosa' yesterday - a 2009 Western. It was good, but Renee Zellweger was NOT. Ha! TTFN and have a nice Sunday!

Day 1950 - How NOT to Prepare For An Alien Invasion

Charlie and I watched the movie "Skyline" last night.

Long story short - aliens invade, and the people who have survived are trying to escape.

Did they PACK SOMETHING useful to take with them? Nope.

Did they CHANGE CLOTHES because a cocktail dress and high heels might not be suitable for running and screaming and escaping? Nope.

Did they have a PLAN before they went outside amidst a city full of MONSTERS? Nope.

The moral of the story is - have a plan. Being prepared for a simple little alien invasion should be a piece of cake! Right? Right!

Day 1949 - Friday, Hooray!

Greetings, Bloggy TGIFers-

It's Friday, Hooray! You know what to do, march in a circle chanting 'Fri-day! Fri-day! Fri-day!'

Confession of the day... I am a well-over-90-pound WEAKLING!

The list of things I cannot open gets longer every day.

A little bitty PILL bottle is stronger than I am. A jar lid is daunting. They are even making chip bags and inner liners nowadays that require SCISSORS for me to get into.

Those cartons with the spout opening like milk cartons - I end up mangling those when I try to open them. Individually packaged things like puddings where you have to peel back the plastic - difficult. Those little drink sachets that you pour into a water bottle? I usually have to cut them open.

Forget anything in molded plastic around toys and electronics. Forget the little, hard plastic clamps that go around sunglasses and other tagged items.

I don't even try to open those plastic mailer bags - I just hand them to Charlie to wrestle with.

Maybe when I grow up I'll be able to master OPENING things? Maybe not!

Day 1948 - Opry Mills Update...

Greetings, Bloggy Sh-Opry Landers!

A year and more has gone by since the spring floods devastated the Nashville area, including the Opryland Hotel and the Opry Mills mall.

The Opryland Hotel has been renovated and reopened, but Opry Mills mall had insurance issues and only recently secured funding to rebuild.

I have missed shopping there, going to the movies and IMAX theatre, and going to the Aquarium restaurant and the other eateries. Bass Pro Shops is the only store at the moment that is in operation.

I did finally hear some good news earlier this week!

Four stores — the Regal Cinemas movie theatre and IMAX, Dave & Buster’s, VF Outlet and Sun & Ski Sport are expecting to reopen in time for the holiday shopping season. The official, grand reopening is planned for March 29, 2012.

Hooray! I'll keep you posted on future updates, yes? Yes.

Day 1947- Tickets, Tickets!!

Greetings, Bloggy Ticket Masters and Mistresses!

Have you been to the movies lately?

At the movie theatre we usually go to, THEY ARE NOT DISPENSING REAL TICKETS ANYMORE!

Instead, you get a thin scrap of laser printed paper, like a little piece of a grocery receipt. YUCK.

That's not a ticket, I want a real ticket!

Think of all the things that have changed or been discontinued due to technology or 'progress'. Tickets are part of that trend, I'm afraid.

Oh well, speaking of tickets and movies, we rented 'You Again' from Netflix and watched it last night, it's a cute movie.

Day 1946 - Lazy, Hazy, Crazy Days of Summer

Greetings, Bloggy Summer Suns and Daughters!

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this picture of Savi at the beach. Doesn't she look precious?

I am going to add this one to the Savi collection on my screensaver at work.

Speaking of summer - today is the longest day of the year and the first day of summer.

I love the long days, but DREAD that the days are going to start getting shorter again. No! No! No!

TTFN and enjoy these beautiful days of summer while they last!

Day 1945 - Monday, Monday...

Greetings, Monday Morning Blahgers!

Here's our Gal Savi at the beach, another summer is here, isn't it?

I love the beach. I just returned from California, and seeing the ocean was definitely one highlight of my trip.

I also had a hilarious flight attendent on the trip out there from Nashville to San Diego.

He referred to the floatation device as 'that bright yellow thing that looks like a toilet seat cover'. When he told the part in the safety briefing about the oxygen masks, he said to 'Place it over your nose and mouth to muffle your screams', and then said that there would be a charge for the use of the oxygen! The whole plane was laughing.

It's back to work, and I am expecting a very busy week. TTFN!

Day 1944 - I'm baaaaack!

Hey - I didn't bother to pre-write a blog today, I've been in California and just returned.

I had a WONDERFUL trip, and I need to download my pictures and sort through them.

TTFN!

Day 1943 - I Only Blog on Days Ending With a Y...

Greetings, Bloggy Beach Lovers!

Okay, this beach is in Florida, not California, but I'll probably be taking pictures today of the California beaches.

I'm expecting to see two of my aunts this morning - one of them our very own Aunt Nancy, frequent commenter on the blog. We might go out to breakfast, or lunch, or just do whatever...

This evening is a graduation party for my niece, and that will start at 6.

No time for bloggage, there's too much to do!

Friday, June 17, 2011

Day 1942 - It's Friday, Hooray!

Greetings, Bloggy Graduates-

It's Friday, Hooray!

You know what to do, march in a circle chanting 'Fri-day! Fri-day! Fri-day!'

This afternoon is my nieces graduation. My sister made a lunch reservation at an oceanside table at a fancy restaurant called the Beach House. Then we'll go to the graduation, and I'm not sure what we're doing in the evening.

TTFN and have a nice Friday - whatever you're doing!

Day 1941 - I left my heart...In San Diego....

Greetings, Bloggy Travelers!

Oh... that would be ME.

I am off to sunny, breezy California for several days of family events.

My niece is graduating from high school, and since I haven't seen her in a number of years, I decided that I would attend her graduation.

I'll be staying near Solana beach, which is near Del Mar and Cardiff by the Sea.

I'll be back in a few days, and don't worry, there will be bloggage for you to read in the meantime...

Day 1940 - Pickin and Gardening?

Greetings, Bloggy Pickers and Grinners!

I couldn't find just the right photo for the blog, but you'll like this story.

I was driving home last night, and it was still light out. It had rained earlier, and was pleasantly comfortable afterwards, temps in the 80's. A really pretty evening.

As I drove, I passed the horses in the corner, and the color coordinated fence and cattle.

Then all of a sudden I passed a house, and saw a little girl playing in the yard. Her father was outside with her, keeping her company by playing a banjo. Really, it was so sweet!

Dad was playing away on the banjo and strolling around, while his little girl enjoyed her little games.

It made me smile to see it.

Day 1939 - Oval or round or....square?

Greetings, Bloggy Circles and Squares-

Ok, I admit it - I do NOT have a failproof system for testing that a watermelon is ripe.

I knock on it.

I make sure it is heavy for the size.

I make sure it has a butter yellow area that has been on the ground

I even think the oval kind are generally better than the round ones.

With ALL of that knowledge, I get a good watermelon maybe half the time.

So - if you have a secret that is not revealed above, TELL ME NOW!!!!

Day 1938 - A Journey to the Unknown... or Walmart

Greetings, Monday Morning Blah-gers!

I have a Walmart story from yesterday...

You may know that in Tennessee, you are not allowed to buy beer on Sundays before noon. However, we have a lot of people from out of town here due to the CMA Music Festival and Bonnaroo.

Charlie and I were in Walmart yesterday morning after going to the pool. It was around 10-10:30am.

I overheard two men discussing beer while I was in the soft drink aisle.

As I meandered by them, there were 2 six packs of beer in their cart (nothing else!) and they were discussing what other kinds to buy.

POLITELY I said 'I don't think you're allowed to buy beer before noon on a Sunday', and kept meandering. I heard one mutter to the other 'What time is it? 10:30? We might as well drink it here and pay for it at 12:00!'

True story! I don't know if they returned the beer or started drinking in the store!

TTFN and have a nice Monday!

Day 1937 - No time for bloggage

Greetings, Blogregation-

There were no comments yesterday!

That tells me everyone is busy, or I scared everyone off with a picture of myself. Ha!

Have a nice Sunday, and we're heading to the health club soon for a swim.

Day 1936 - Headbangers and Headbands!

Greetings, Bloggy Weekenders!

I'm going to make this really short so I can spend my weekend doing fun things like water aerobics and grocery shopping, and not try to think up something to write about.

See this awesome, super coolio tie-dye-style headband on my head? (yes, that is me, courtesy of the webcam on my laptop)

My daughter MADE that headband for me and sent me two other ones.

Thanks, Heather! I love 'em, and they go very well with my expensive-looking dollar store earrings, don't they?

I've said many times - I can't make anything but I can write a mean signature on a check. Ha!

TTFN and I hope all my readers have a great weekend.

Day 1935 - Color Coordinated Nails, Pocketbook, and... Cattle?

Greetings, Bloggy Fencing Masters-

It's Friday, Hooray! You know what to do, march in a circle chanting 'Fri-day! Fri-day! Fri-day!'

I pass a huge, beautiful farm with long, black wooden fencing like this each day while I am driving to work.

As I drive by, I always notice that the fence matches their Black Angus cattle.

Do you think that could possibly be intentional?

It is just so pretty to see the Black Angus cows and calves in the green grass, bordered by the black fence. It's the stuff that photos and postcards are made of.

I know that's a pretty silly thing to blog about, but I really do notice it often and have wanted to talk about it.

TTFN, have a great Friday and a great weekend!

Day 1934 - Do You Come Here Often?

Greetings, Bloggy Resters and Roomers!

Before I tell my rest room story, I should mention that it is bloody well HOT here. We tied the record high yesterday, but overall it is the hottest June ever.

The Fan Fair people are here (or CMA Music Festival for newer folks), and Bonnaroo will be going on, and there will be hundreds of heat related issues.

But back to my restroom story... Monday night was the beekeepers picnic, a potluck dinner attended by beekeepers, beekeeper-wanna-bees, friends, etc. I think it's lots of fun, and my marinated pasta salad was obliterated, which means it was a success.

Before we went home, Charlie and I hit the rest rooms. The mens and ladies restrooms were side by side, and each just a 'one holer'.

Both rooms were occupied, but the mens room freed up first. Charlie gallantly offered to let me use the mens room rather than wait. I preferred to wait. Charlie entered, and another man, maybe in his 20's, got in line next to me. I was still waiting.

I told him that Charlie wouldn't be long, and that I had declined an offer to use the mens room. HEARTILY he agreed with my decision, saying 'I don't blame you! I don't even want to go in there!'

It was a hilarious thing to say, and just right for the moment.

TTFN and remember - even standing in line for the restroom can be fun!

Day 1933 - Savi, the Bird Tamer!

Greetings, Bloggy Bird Lovers-

Here's Savi again at the animal park, taming a "wild" bird (is this a kind of parakeet?) that has obviously been dipped in neon dye so it can't get lost.

She's so brave, and I'm just so impressed with her love of animals, just like her MOMMY!

So... How does Savi feel this year about Insects?

The cicadas are disappearing, but one Dad at the outdoor pool said his daughter loved to PLAY with them. Ha!

She was chasing the ones that had fallen into the pool and using them as her pool toys. I guess she'll miss them more than I will...

TTFN and have a nice Wednesday!

Tuesday, June 07, 2011

Day 1932 - Introducing Savi of Arabia!

Greetings, Bloggy Travelers-

Here is Miss Savi, taking the desert (or a wild animal park) by storm.

Camels would feel just fine around here, it's supposed to be 97 today and we have had the hottest June so far on record. EVER.

I put anything important that I want to leave in the car in a COOLER with blue ice during the day, otherwise my swimwear and aqua shoes could MELT in the heat of the car.

But back to camelage - what I want to know is...

How did Savi get ON that thing?

Did they have a set of stairs for the children to climb that rolls away again? I think I saw that type of contraption at the Renaissance Festival.

I'm so proud of her, she is the bravest 3 year old ever.

TTFN and 'Water for Elephants AND Camelage'!

Day 1931 - Good job, Grandpa!

Greetings, Bloggy Grandpas and Grandmas!

Charlie babysat for his tw0 year old grandson the other day while his daughter and son-in-law went on a short trip.

He had to take his grandson to daycare in the morning, pick him up again, give him supper, put him to bed, and stay overnight. What a good grandpa!

I do have a story about those overnight hours, though!

The alarm clock was still set for some middle of the night timeframe because his daughter and son-in-law needed to get to the airport early. They forgot to disable the alarm when they left on their trip.

Charlie woke up from a sound sleep hearing the alarm going off. At first, he wasn't sure what type of alarm was going off, and he got out of bed and started following the noise. The dog followed along with him. The alarm was in the master bedroom, and continued to beep while Charlie was trying to figure out how to turn it off.

Attempting to assist him, the dog started howling along with the alarm! Just picture it - Charlie in a strange house, woken up in the middle of the night, the alarm blaring and the dog howling. THANKFULLY, his grandson slept through it all.

TTFN and have a nice, quiet, peaceful Monday!

Day 1930 - Cicada Plague Update

Greetings, Rubber Baby Bloggy Bumpers! (get it?)

Here's a great photo of a cicada, I took this one off the web. Thanks, Web! They are BIG.

Yesterday I opened up the cooler that I keep in the back of the car to replace the blue ice, and there was a dead cicada bug in there.

My windshield is gross - splash marks all over it from little cicada bombs going off when I drive.

I was right next to another car yesterday, and their windshield looked exactly like mine. That means I didn't feel so guilty about driving around with guts all over the glass.

I think the plague is calming down - I don't think they're quite as loud or prevalent, and there are carcasses everywhere. A few more weeks and they will be gone for another 13 years. We have some other variety (maybe 8 year ones?) that will visit in between.

TTFN and that's it for the bug update!

Day 1929 - Feed the Nerds, Tuppence a Bag!

Greetings, Nerds and Nerdettes!

This would probably make a better blog for a work day, but since it's MY blog I get to blog about whatever I want, whenever I want. How lucky I am!

I could probably be classified a nerd because I work with computers, but I don't really think I am.

I'm not claiming to be NORMAL either, but I don't fit the nerd stereotype.

However, I do like nerds, and 'Feed the Nerds, Tuppence a Bag' came to me today while I was thinking of Disney music.

I love to feed people, both nerds and non-nerds. I always have chocolates or goodies at work to take to meetings, and I buy tubs of individually wrapped pretzels when they are available and bring them to work to share.

I remember walking through the computer department with a group of people, cautioning them 'Please don't feed the programmers!'

There is ONE guy at work who I have nicknamed 'Hungry'. He has a sixth sense about where to ferret out the food, and always shows up to ANY food event in the department. I have to hide the chocolate at the end of the day so he can't find it.

It's not fair that he's THIN to boot. AAArrrrgghh!

TTFN and have a great weekend!

Day 1928 - I want a dragon too!!

Greetings, Bloggy TGIFers!

It's Friday, Hooray!

You know what to do, march in a circle chanting 'Fri-day! Dra-gons! Fri-day! Dra-gons!'

It was 82 degrees at BEDTIME last night. Bloody hot if you ask me.

Speaking of heat, last night I watched 'How to Train Your Dragon' on HBO on-demand.

What a cute movie, even for grownups! For an animated movie it was interesting, touching, funny, and just plain good. There, you have my dragon endorsement. (or was that dragon breath?)

Did you change your calendars yet? I haven't! I might as well get used to be late, late, late for just about anything!

Have a wonderful Friday and a wonderful weekend.

Day 1927 - Baking Soda in your hair??

Greetings, Bloggy Cut and Colors!

I have already mentioned that on Saturday I was at the hairdressers.

I could write several blogs about various things that I heard/saw/discovered there, but today I only have time to tell one thing.

I had rinsed out my hair before coming to the hairdresser, but still had some hairspray residue here and there.

She told me that if you put a little baking soda in your palm with your shampoo, the baking soda will dissolve any hairspray residue in your hair!

Did anybody already know that? I've never heard that before.

Just another helpful tip brought to you by your friends in the blog newsroom.

TTFN and don't forget to turn your calendars, I haven't turned mine yet!

Day 1926 - My Husband's in Hay Today...

Greetings, Bloggy Balers-

First - Hello to June! It feels like August here though, mid to upper 90's in the afternoons.

When I was at the hair salon this past Saturday, my hairdresser said something that made me smile.

We were talking about our plans for Memorial Weekend, and she said 'Well, my husband's in hay today, so I might as well work'.

I knew she meant that her husband was haying, but I enjoyed hearing her say that he was IN hay.

Many people here also say 'Sit IN the floor' rather than 'Sit ON the floor'. I don't really understand how that became a common saying, but there it is.

Another interesting difference is someone saying they were 'having their picture MADE', not having their picture TAKEN.

Isn't language interesting? TTFN and Happy June!

This page is powered by Blogger. Isn't yours?
