Day 1774 - Eat, Drink, and Be Merry, or at the very least, Less Hairy!

Greetings, Bloggy Revelers -

New Years Eve is HERE! Yahoo!

So long 2010 (you weren't the greatest), hell0 2011 (we are cautiously optimistic)!

Should auld aquaintance be forgot and stuff.

I am celebrating New Years Eve by going to my favorite beauty parlor and getting waxed. Now THAT is big time end of the year fun!

I can say that I 'waxed nostaligic' over 2010. (groan)

You may be thinking 'I wouldn't have told THAT' - but dedicated bloggers tell all - or at least all that is rated G or PG.

And WHY of all days did I choose TODAY to go there? Just because I have the day off, and they're open early, that's why.

Happy New Year, be safe and be careful, and I'll blog at ya next year! If you get totally bored at midnight, chances are there will be plenty of buddies on Facebook to celebrate with! TTFN!

Day 1773 - Neigh, Neigh - Say It's Not So!

Greetings, Bloggy Holiday Has-Beens!

It's true. The horse heads are gone for another year.

When I drove by this morning in the dark - they had been removed and replaced with regular round lamps at the end of that driveway. Aw.... bummer.

The bad news:
I DIDN'T GET A PICTURE OF THEM.

The good news:
I can stop feeling guilty that I didn't get a picture of them.

One more work day this week for me (today), and I have tomorrow off. I am also hoping we will get permission to leave early this afternoon so I can get home at a decent hour.

TTFN and don't forget to wrap up anything you MUST do in 2010 NOW! For example - use up coupons that expire 12/31.

Have a nice Thursday!

Day 1772 - Midweek and Midlife and Mid Holidays!

Greetings, Bloggy Middlers!

Here's another cute Savi pic - we can't have too many of those!

We are right between Christmas and New Years - that is the 'Mid Holiday' reference.

I am already rebelling against taking down the tree! The only Christmas clearaway I have done is to put away some (NOT ALL) of my Christmas towels.

So.... inquiring readers want to know what fun things you're planning for New Years Eve!

I plan to go to bed early and just SLEEP my way into the New Year. Doesn't that sound wonderful?

New Years Eve is just about my least favorite celebration. TV is awful, going out is less than fun, and staying up till midnight is draining. I have a new lap blankie with leaves all over it - I like my blankie better than New Years Eve.

TTFN and have a great Wednesday!

Day 1771 - Twofer Tuesday

Greetings, Bloggy Twofers -

That's right - it's a picture of Savi and me.

Thanks to Auntie Cheryl for taking it. I cropped the photo to close in on me and Savannah, but we were sitting at the desk, coloring.

Please note - coloring is an excellent grandmother/granddaughter activity. So are sticker books. So is dancing - especially silly, exaggerated dancing.

We spent a lot of time dancing to 'The Wiggles' - and playing their videos on Utube. It is so great to be able to play them free, right on the computer!

I did buy a new comforter set and some other sale items at Kohls yesterday. I hope it is relatively wrinkle free! I sure don't want to return anything - I noticed the line was very long for Christmas returns.

TTFN and have a great Tuesday!

Monday, December 27, 2010

Day 1770 - Back to work, unless you're in a blizzard!

Greetings, Monday Morning Snowbirds!

Mom, Marcia and Heather - how much snow did you get in New England?

Inquiring readers want to know!

It's back to work today for most of us - except for those taking this week off.

I actually have a busy work week planned, but might pop out during my lunch hours this week to look at the Christmas clearance sales.

I want (change that to need if you want to) a jersey knit sheet set, and a new bedspread set. Any suggestions?

Here's a spectacular photo from our trip to Gatlinburg last February. There was SOOO much snow. Snow is lovely to look at but no fun if you have to drive anywhere.

TTFN and be careful in the snow!

Day 1769 - Christmas Clearance, Anyone?

Greetings, Bloggy Princes and Princesses!

Are you going to hit the after-Christmas clearance sales today? I don't know if I will or not. Usually I avoid the crowds.

Here's a great picture of Savannah on Christmas morning, wearing her Christmas princess outfit. She has a doll with the same outfit. How cute is THAT, especially with her elephant pjs on underneath it?

So - did everyone have a great Christmas? We sure did!

Our dinner was delicious. On my food soapbox, I am telling you that a properly cooked tenderloin roast rivals any prime rib I've ever had, and of course we had GRAVY to go with it.

The cranberry/apple stuffing, mashed sweet potatoes, green beans with ham, and pearl onions were also good, but the roast was the star of the show.

I have to tell the story about the roast. I bought a whole tenderloin (on sale, of course!) and asked the supermarket butcher shop to make it into a roast for me, and tie it with butchers twine.

Not only did they do an excellent job of that - they took all the scraps, ground them up, and included maybe a pound and a half (2 meals worth) of the most incredibly delicious tenderloin hamburger in the package with the roast. That was a very welcome surprise.

TTFN and have a great day-after-Christmas. The countdown to New Years is ON!

Day 1768 - Merry Christmas, Let's Eat!

Greetings, Bloggy Christmas Present Openers -

MERRY CHRISTMAS! Did Santa come to your house last night? He came here too!

Here's Santa, doing his Christmas yoga. You've heard of Christmas yoga, haven't you? Maybe I made it up.

Yesterday, as we were exercising in the pool, I said to Charlie 'My new mantra is YUM....YUM....YUM....'.

That made me imagine Santa doing yoga and meditating.

Lo and behold, I found a photo on the web of 'Santa Yoga'. If you think of it, someone else probably has too.

Our friends TY and SY are coming for dinner, they'll be here at noontime.

We are having appetizers and chips 'n dip, then a beef tenderloin roast with gravy, my sister Lyn's cranberry bread (that I froze after Thanksgiving), sweet potato casserole, green beans, pearl onions, and SY's pecan pie for dessert.

I hope everyone who reads the blog has the best Christmas EVER! TTFN!

Day 1767 - Christmas Eve And All Is Well!

Greetings, Bloggy Stocking Hangers!

I really like this picture - it has all the appropriate Christmas Eve elements!

There is snow falling outside, a beautiful tree, candles all aglow, stockings hung by the chimney with care, snacks for Santa, and PRESENTS!!

The square sofas are a mystery - but I'll get over it (she said with a smile). I am totally excited about Christmas, and I am not ashamed to admit it.

The weather people are even predicting the first White Christmas here in SEVENTEEN YEARS! If we get any kind of measurable snow at all, it will officially be a White Christmas.

Charlie and I are going to have a wonderful Christmas Eve - and it won't require much effort. No alarm clock, a nice breakfast, a swim at the health club, some cooking, some cleaning, and some Southern Comfort to dress up the eggnog sounds like PERFECTION.

I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas Weekend! Merry Christmas!

Day 1766 - And Razzleberry Dressing!

Greetings, Christmas Count-downers!

Just one more day of work today, and I'll be off tomorrow and the rest of the weekend for CHRISTMAS.

It's also time for me to watch 'Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol' - a tradition in our family.

My water aerobics instructor didn't recognize my singing 'and Razzleberry Dressing' when we were exercising Tuesday night.

Could it be possible that some people have never seen Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol? GET IT! It's not too late, folks!

Another favorite Christmas Carol movie is 'Scrooge' from 1970 - with Alastair Sim playing Ebeneezer Scrooge. This is a musical, and I need to watch that one too. Love that movie.

Time to finish my grocery shopping and settle in for CHRISTMAS WEEKEND! I'm buying my Christmas roast today, and I'm getting more excited by the minute.

TTFN and Merry Christmas!

Wednesday, December 22, 2010

Day 1765 - The Shopping List Grows Shorter!

Greetings, Bloggy Santa Watchers!

Here's a picture of Savannah with one of her Christmas presents from me.

We had gone to Sams Club, and Savannah really liked this dinosaur.

She named him 'Dopey'. I love that name - Dopey the Dinosaur.

You can see how tired she was, and I just noticed she is wearing the elephant pajamas that I gave her. Nancy - aren't they cute?

Just a couple more days till CHRISTMAS - get that last minute shopping done, quick!

I need to get a few Christmas dinner related grocery items, some beer, clean house, and then I really will be ready for the holidays to arrive.

HO HO HO!

Tuesday, December 21, 2010

Day 1764 - Horse Heads We Have Heard On High...

Greetings, Bloggy Angels!

Did anyone stay up for the lunar eclipse last night? I didn't. I was dreaming sweet dreams about horses... or angels.

Yes, the infamous horse heads I have been passing by are POSITIVELY, DEFINITELY angels blowing trumpets.

They are covered in white lights, and I see the angels from the side, not straight on.

I looked and looked and looked for a good photo on the web, but I guess if I want to demonstrate what I'm talking about, I'll have to go take a picture of them.

This picture just demonstrates how vague an angel pattern can appear if it is dark. It doesn't look like an angel OR a horse head, to be honest.

Hey! Did they already show that 'Saturday Night Live' Christmas special with all the old clips from Christmas past? I would have liked to see that again.

TTFN and have a nice Tuesday! Watch out for those trumpets!

Monday, December 20, 2010

Day 1763 - A new superhero!

Greetings, Monday Morning Blahgers!

I invented a new superhero yesterday, just because I can. Beavis and Butthead were the inspiration.

His name is 'Potholio', and he saved me from hitting a pothole as we were driving to the health club yesterday morning.

Some might say that I saw the pothole in time and swerved, but I know I had superhero intervention.

Thank you, Potholio!

We've had a lot of super-cold weather this winter, and a couple of small snows, and the highway is getting pitted with potholes, which I hate.

Keep me safe from those evil, dastardly Potholes! TTFN!

Day 1762 - Goin' Postal...

Greetings, Bloggy Priority Mailers!

Yes, this is a very appropriate photo of the LONG lines at the post office. See the gal with the baby, READING A BOOK IN LINE?

And who was there yesterday to mail a package? Yep, yours truly.

I knew I was in trouble when I saw the entire parking lot was full, upper level and lower level.

Inside, there was a long line to get to the counter, a long line to get to one do-it-yourself postage station, and another long line to get to the other do-it-yourself postage station.

There were two funny moments during my long wait.

Funny moment 1: An elderly women came in and petitioned the line of customers asking 'can anyone help me get a zip code'? Instantly people whipped out their iphones and blackberries in a flurry of internet activity that was a sight to behold. They googled. They advised each other on how to get the information the fastest. They were SO proud of their smart phones, and one woman quickly produced the zip code in question.

Funny moment 2: People were getting pretty sick of standing in line, though everyone was trying to be patient. You could feel the tension. Just then, a father who was carrying his small daughter was leaving the building. The little girl (maybe 4 years old) started singing 'Fa la la la la, la la la la!' That made everyone smile, and the tension lifted.

TTFN and have a nice Sunday! Enjoy these last few days till Christmas, and the full moon too!

Day 1761 - Christmas Tree - Revisited

Greetings, Bloggy Christmas Tree Scrutinizers!

I've added more ornaments to the tree, so I went ahead and took another photo.

I hadn't put my cross-stitch ornaments on yet because I hadn't pulled the tin out of the bottom of my ornament box, and I added a few others.

No, I didn't do the cross stitch ornaments, I bought them at a craft fair one year (or two) for a dollar each, if I remember correctly.

It was well worth a dollar for a handmade cross-stitched picture! I have Santas, a dog, a doll, a Christmas tree, a stocking, a wreath, etc.

Click on the photo to look at the closeup. You can see that I have very few of the same ornaments, I have lots of different ones.

I have lots of ornaments that I didn't even put on the tree this year - I have red and gold apples, birds, pine cones, and bows, to name a few. I guess I need an additional TREE - don't I? Ha!

TTFN and happy decorating!

Friday, December 17, 2010

Day 1760 - Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree...

Greetings, Christmas Tree Toppers!

It's Friday, Hooray! You know what to do - carol in a circle singing 'Fri-day! Christ-mas! Fri-day! Christ-mas!'

Here's my Christmas tree - decorated and everything. The photo I put on Facebook didn't have anything but the lights on it.

The texture of the picture looks a bit grainy because I turned off the flash to capture the blue and white lights. Someday I want the big, multicolored bulbs like my sister has on her tree.

My most fancy ornaments came from Marcia quite a few years ago. I haven't broken one of them!

I keep most ornaments in those cookie gift tins you get at Christmastime - they protect the glass ones really well. I have several boxes and tubs in the hall closet of Christmas stuff.

Other favorite Christmas things are my 'faux' presents under the tree. These are just small, empty wrapped boxes with decorations on top of them like toys.

I bought them years ago at a craft fair, and I take them out every year and put them under the tree. That way the tree doesn't look 'empty' when there aren't any presents underneath it.

That's my tree - and I love it! Merry Christmas in one more week!

Day 1759 - Christmas Countdown is ON!

Greetings, Christmas Past and Presents-

Here's the best gift of all - my little granddaughter. What a joy she is, and of course THE CUTEST thing in the whole world!

I have GOT to wrap up my Christmas shipping and shopping. I have one box to mail, some cards, and I'm not done shopping yet either.

At least I got the lights on my Christmas tree last night. It is BRIGHT - brighter than me!

We have a Christmas function at work today - they are renting a tent outdoors and having a catered meal and games and prizes and music.

They encouraged us to wear Christmas sweaters today, but they also advertised an 'Ugliest Christmas sweater' contest. That creates a dilemma, dontcha think? I don't know if I'll have time to dig in the closet for a Christmas sweater, but I think I would dislike winning the ugliest sweater contest when I showed up wearing one. Ha!

TTFN and have a nice Thursday!

Wednesday, December 15, 2010

Day 1758 - Midweek, Midlife, Midmonth!

Greetings, Bloggy Middlers!

Since MY tree isn't even decorated yet, here's a nice photo of my sisters tree for you to enjoy.

Hey, it's MIDMONTH!

Can you believe there are only TEN more days till Christmas?

I'm not ready AT ALL. I have checks to put in the mail, cards to write, presents to buy, Christmas dinner to plan, etc. etc.

Jeepers, Creepers! The blog is just going to get a click and a promise - no time for bloggage.

Have a nice Wednesday, and be careful! We're supposed to get freezing rain this afternoon, YUCK!

Tuesday, December 14, 2010

Day 1757 - Twofer Tuesday?

Greetings, Bloggy Twofer Tuesdayers -

Here's one of my favorite photos from my early Christmas trip. Isn't it cute?

I came home to Nashville and it was COLDER and SNOWIER than New England. What is UP with THAT?

I've posted some pictures on Facebook, for those of you readers who are my FB friends.

Back to work today, and BOY is it a cold one - single digits this morning.

Hey - Monday has already gone by! It's going to feel like Monday today though, I'll bet.

Gotta run! Have a nice Tuesday and stay warm!

Monday, December 13, 2010

Day 1756 - On the road again...

Greetings, Bloggy Dearests!

For some reason I plumb forgot to write the blog in advance last night... Do ya think I might have been busy?

We had such a nice day yesterday. The weather was gray and rainy - it literally poured ALL DAY and ALL EVENING.

I think my favorite part of the day was going out to the sun porch with Savannah during the rain, and lying on the chaise lounge with her under a blanket, listening to the raindrops and looking at a book of birds. Very soothing to the soul.

Gotta go eat breakfast and catch a plane, folks! There is snow in Tennessee and the schools are closed today. Bitter cold to boot. That's what I expected here in New England, not in the South!

Huge Thanks to my sister and brother in law for hosting the extravaganza all weekend.

TTFN!

Sunday, December 12, 2010

Day 1755 - Still digesting, after all these years...

Greetings, Blogregation!

Here's our little angel, Savi - in front of her Christmas tree.

We had a BIG day yesterday, and an excellent one!

I attended Savi's dance/gymnastics class, which was totally cute - half an hour of dance, half an hour of gym. Of course I took pictures.

Then through Dunkin Donuts drive through for iced coffee, then to Sams Club to pick up a prime rib. I bought the largest one they had.

Then back to my sister and brother in laws for cooking and eating and presents and visiting.

We had homemade chicken pie, prime rib, scallop casserole, spanakopita, jumbo shrimp, mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, broccoli salad, pineapple/jello salad (we call this 'good salad' in my family), homemade bread, cranberry bread, pumpkin pie, boston creme pie, apple pie, carrot cake, pecan pie, grapenut pie, and CANDY. Oh, and cookies too.

That's all I can remember - I am in a food coma.

Please send soothing digestive thoughts and have a great day!

Saturday, December 11, 2010

Day 1754 - A word to the wise...

Greetings, Bloggy Vacationers!

I am off on a mini vacation, just through Monday.

Word to the wise - on the day before you have to travel, it might be best NOT to partake of food you are unaccustomed to.

Meaning - I pigged out on sushi the afternoon before I left, and I am not a sushi eater. I needed some Immodium AD before I got on the plane this morning.

Thank you, Immodium, you saved me again. I need to buy stock in that company.

I am going to Savannahs dance class this morning - I'd better remember to bring my extra batteries. Then we're stopping at Sams Club, then back to my sister and brother in laws house for fun, friendship, and FOOD!

Yeee Haaa! Hope you have as nice a weekend as I will!

Friday, December 10, 2010

Day 1753 - Merry Christmas! Early Christmas, that is...

Greetings, Bloggy Christmas Revelers!

Here's a photo from the archives - from 2004 as a matter of fact.

A nice, cheery fire and a reflection of the Christmas tree in the window...

You can envy me today, I am off to Rhode Island for early Christmas with the Fam. Savannah, here I come!

I have to tell this story - embarrassing but true...

It is often dark as I am driving to or from work. Each day I pass this house with two lighted Christmas 'objects' at the end of their driveway.

Until this morning, I thought they were HORSE HEADS. In actuality, they are angels with trumpets or something much more Christmasy than horse heads. Uh... my bad.

TTFN and have a Merry Equine Christmas!

Thursday, December 09, 2010

Day 1752 - Thursday, or Friday?

Greetings, Bloggy Waitin' for the Weekenders!

Here is a spectacular photo (that I took, by the way) of the Height of the Land, an overlook area in the Rangely Lakes region of Maine.

The Appalachian Trail passes through it - and it is one of the most beautiful spots I can think of.

Marcia - I found this photo when I was erasing the memory card in the digital camera I am bringing to you for early Christmas!

It was meant for me to find, wasn't it?

Well, it is MY Friday today - because I will be off to New England tomorrow morning. Gotta print my boarding passes!

TTFN and have a nice Thursday!

Day 1751 - Midweek and Midlife

Greetings, Bloggy Middlers!

If you didn't read yesterday's comments, inquiring minds wanted to know more about fried corn.

Fried corn is also called 'Country Corn', by the way.

There is a technique to cutting the corn off the cob through the kernels and scraping the ear very well to get all the corn bits AND all the sweet (and sticky) corn milk into the pan.

When I am preparing corn (we get ours in Amish Country) for fried corn, I have to put newspapers down on the table because everything gets really sticky.

Fried corn freezes well, so you can put up a lot of it in the summertime and freeze it to eat all year. Not that there is any chance of it LASTING all year, because you will certainly run out. It's too good to let it sit very long in the freezer.

That's all I can think of to say about fried corn, except to say that if you have never had it, you are missing something yummy!

Tuesday, December 07, 2010

Day 1750 - Beekeepers can COOK!

Greetings, and How you Bee?

Yep, we had a great time at the Beekeepers Banquet - and I'll tell you, they know how to BEE sociable!

Buddy Joe and his Dad attended, and we had an extra nice time with them there.

We even won some door prizes including a Christmas coffee mug filled with hard candy, and a Christmas themed ornament on a stake that you put in a planter.

Dinner was potluck. I can't possibly list ALL the dishes, but I'll give it a try:

Turkey, Ham
Stuffing and Gravy and Rolls
Salads including potato salad and bean salad
Mac N Cheese
Green Beans
Green Bean Casserole
Broccoli Casserole
Fried Corn
Cakes
Pies

As Charlie would say 'I'm full as a tick'. Or a BEE, I guess.

TTFN and have a great Tuesday!

Monday, December 06, 2010

Day 1749 - Partyin' with the BeeKeepers

Greetings, Monday Morning Blah-gers -

Watch out - they're swarming! But they're smiling, so I think we're safe...

That's right - it is time for the annual Beekeepers Christmas Potluck dinner!

Truly, I love to go to their celebrations because I rarely see all these folks, and they raffle off cool things like 'Russian Queens' which make me laugh. They appreciate it when we attend, and Charlie usually gets recognition for driving the longest way to participate.

I made a southwestern-style marinated salad to bring. This healthy item will certainly counteract all the hugely caloric comfort food and desserts I am SURE to find there.

Did I mention how much I'm looking forward to attending?

TTFN, BEE good today, and hide that scale!

Sunday, December 05, 2010

Day 1748 - It's SUN day but it's freezing!

Greetings, Blogregation!

It's cold and wintry this weekend - seemed like a good time for a sunny, cute photo of Savannah sporting a summer tie dye outfit.

Aunt Nancy - did you give her this one?

Yesterday it drizzled all day, getting colder and windier as the day progressed.

We had a nice day though, shopping in Mennonite Country at Muddy Pond, then going to the tack and leather shop next door to the country store.

Charlie bought a new belt that was cut to length, and the lady at the desk then custom punched the belt loop holes in to fit him perfectly. Pretty cool, eh?

I've got to finish getting ready for Early Christmas in New England next weekend, I leave on Friday morning. Charlie already mailed a 17 pound box of books ahead of me.

TTFN and have a nice Sunday!

Saturday, December 04, 2010

Day 1747 - Do you h-EAR what I h-EAR?

Greetings, Bloggy Weekenders -

Congratulations to the Columbia High School Lions - they are the new State Highschool Class 5A Football Champions! Wooo Hooo! Go Columbia!

We watched the game on PBS last night, and it was very exciting!

Yes, I am still wearing my 'old faithful' post earrings.

To answer Marcia's question from yesterday, I think there were several reasons my ears hurt at the end of the day:

Taking out the posts for the very first time was likely a shock for my ears.

My inexpert attempt to insert (read that stab myself) with the new earrings didn't help.

The earrings I wore yesterday weighed a lot more than the posts, which might not have been a great choice for the very first time.

I'll try again with another pair very soon, I promise.

TTFN and have a great Saturday!

Friday, December 03, 2010

Day 1746 - Friday, Hooray!

Greetings, Bloggy TGIF-ers,

It's Friday already - Hooray!

You know what to do - march in a circle chanting 'Fri-day! Fri-day! Fri-day!'

Guess what I did yesterday?

I wore dangly earrings to work, taking my newly-pierced posts out for the FIRST time EVER. EVER.

The sensation of putting wire through my ears was very strange, to say the least. Kinda creepy. They LOOKED great though!

At the end of the day my ears were SORE and I couldn't wait to take the earrings out! I cleaned off my original piercing post earrings and put them right back in for now.

But I did it, and I'm happy about that! TTFN, have a great Friday and a great weekend!

Thursday, December 02, 2010

Day 1745 - Just a click and a promise

Greetings, Bloggy What Happened To the Week-ers!

I really don't have time to write a 'regular' blog posting, so I'm just writing down some random thoughts.

I went to a 'celebration' meeting yesterday, and they served ICE CREAM CAKE! There were two different flavors, Vanilla and Cookies 'N Creme. I had the cookies 'n creme.

How did your first day of December go? Did you remember to change your calendars?

Speaking of remembering things...

My brothers birthday is in December, and one of my nephews too. If I don't get their cards ready NOW, I will totally forget.

TTFN and have a nice Thursday!

Wednesday, December 01, 2010

Day 1744 - Hellooooo, December!

Greetings, Bloggy Winters and Winteresses!

Here's a photo from last winter to 'warm you up' to the season.

Winter begins on December 21st, you know.

I need to tell you that the movie 'Get Him to the Greek' was unbelievably raunchy in a BAD way. I do NOT recommend it at all. Stay away, please.

My cold is improving. I am coughing less and have more energy.

That means my immune system is WORKING, folks. That is very good.

TTFN and have a nice Wednesday!
