Day 2321 - Splish, Splash!

Greetings, Bloggy Bathers!

The weekend is here, and it is supposed to be record heat.

So... How do people stay cool?  Air conditioning, ice, WATER...

Poor Charlie fell in the creek earlier this week!

He was leaning over and his hand slipped, and he tumbled into the water.

No, he wasn't hurt, just wet and embarrassed.

He could go dry off, change clothes, and be good as new.

Be careful, staying cool can be dangerous!

Day 2320 - Benevolent Opportunities...

Greetings, Bloggy Moneybags,

It's Friday, Hooray!

You know what to do, march in a circle chanting 'Fri-day! Fri-day! Fri-day!'

If I had LOTs of money, I am sure I would do many benevolent things.

For example...

I would offer to pay to fix the teeth of every hockey player- you'd think they make enough to fix their own teeth, but I guess they don't.

When my kids were little, they would ask 'If you were rich, how much allowance would WE get?'

I would answer 'Your allowance would be ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS A WEEK, EACH!

They would be so happy to think about spending it, they would be all smiles...

Day 2319 - Who Says I Need a Bucket List?

Greetings, Bloggy Bucketeers,

Do I REALLY need a bucket list?  I'm not sure.

If the answer is yes, the first thing on my bucket List is to prove that I don't have to have a bucket List to enjoy my life...

The second thing on my bucket list is to SOMEDAY be thin enough to wrap one of those %$#%^& gym towels around myself...

The third thing on my bucket list is to take an Alaskan cruise, and have a balcony room at the back of the boat.

The fourth thing on my list is to see Niagra Falls- I can't believe I haven't done that yet.
Do YOU have a bucket list? Inquiring minds want to know!

Day 2318 - Rain, Rain, Please Come Here!

Greetings, Bloggy Bakers!

It's bloody HOT here in Tennessee, and other parts of the country too.

After a mild winter and a warm spring, we have settled into a LONG summer heat wave with NO rain.

With a drought going on, Mother Nature decided to make things worse, bringing in record hot temperatures.

Every day has been in the 90's, and even the BREEZE is hot. It is supposed to hit 100 at least two days this week.

The garden is shriveling (or shriveled), the grass is brown, and the shrubs are looking bad.

I saw a tree near the health club that has already changed color and lost it's leaves - it's just giving up the ghost.

Quick - somebody do a Rain Dance already!!

Day 2317 - The Hills Are Alive, With the Sound of Soundtracks...

Greetings, Bloggy Movie and Musical Lovers -

I like Broadway and Movie Soundtracks...

They bring back memories, AND often contain an entire collection of songs that I like!

Examples -

The Forrest Gump 2-cd set has THIRTY FOUR songs on it, and I like them all.  Of course, I can brag that I paid $2.99 for the 2-cd set at Goodwill.

I have both 'Sleepless in Seattle' soundtracks, and they are excellent.

I have two out of three 'Lord of the Rings' soundtracks too.

I wanted the quite-expensive 2 cd 'Superman - The Movie' soundtrack, but opted instead for the single cd version.

I guess I'll talk about Broadway Soundtracks another day... Love those too!

Day 2316 - Slap On, Slap Off!

Greetings, Monday Morning Blahgers!

An interesting story (and question) from the health club yesterday...

When I took my shower, the shower stall next to mine was also occupied.  Okay, that's nothing unusual.

What was unusual was all the SLAPPING noises I heard going on over there while the water was running...

Is that a new way to invigorate your skin?

Was there some Tai-Chi going on?

I did read that slapping yourself (gently) reduces wrinkles - is that true?

Anyway - in 5 years of going to that health club, I have NEVER heard anyone else smacking themselves around in the shower.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Day 2315 - Where the Sidewalk Ends...

Greetings, Blogregation-

Charlie and I saw a 'sidewalk end' yesterday in Spring Hill, Tennessee.

Is that kind of like finding the gold at the end of the rainbow... only without any gold?

Where ARE we when the sidewalk ends?

What does it mean?

Now I'll have to read that famous poem about the sidewalk ending to see WHAT's GOING ON!

P.S.  Have a great Sunday, because MONDAY is almost here...

Day 2314 - A Little Off the Top, Please!

Greetings, Bloggy Weekenders,

First - today is my granddaughters dance recital - I hope she LOVES it!

Second, it's time for a haircut, and I have a noon appointment.

If my hair gets too long, it starts to flatten out on top, and I don't want to look like a 'plateau head'.

I am off to water aerobics, then to the hairdresser.

Have a wonderful day, everyone!

Day 2313 - Friday, Hooray!

Greetings, Bloggy TGIFers!

It's Friday, Hooray!

You know what to do, march in a circle chanting 'Fri-day! Fri-day! Friday!'

Blogger isn't cooperating with me at the moment, I think Blogger must also be looking forward to the weekend.

I am SURE today is going to be better than LAST Friday, when someone dinged my CAR!

 I hope I didn't just jinx myself...

I hope I didn't just jinx myself...

I hope I didn't just jinx myself...

I hope I didn't just jinx myself...

Day 2312 - Filet Mignon Burgers ROCK!

Greetings, Bloggy Carnivores!

Have you ever tasted Filet Mignon BURGER?

There is a restaurant in Miami that actually offers one - here is a photo.

The first time I ever had a filet mignon burger was when the butcher ground all the scraps together after I had ordered a filet mignon roast for Christmas.  I couldn't wait to try it.

A FILET MIGNON BURGER IS THE MOST TENDER, FASTEST COOKING, MOST DELECTABLE BURGER YOU COULD POSSIBLY IMAGINE.  It is not the least bit dry tasting.

I like them with PepperJack cheese too... Or Cheddar.  A large burger only takes 5 minutes to cook. I really need to try a bacon cheeseburger version as well.

Since Filet Mignon is expensive (I only get it once or twice a year when it is on sale for 9.99/lb), it is a good idea to make tiny, slider-sized burgers and have them on dinner rolls or those yummy hawaiian rolls.  Those would only take a minute or less on a side.

UNBELIEVABLY GOOD.  I PROMISE.

Day 2311 - My Man Mayhem...

Greetings, Bloggy Insurance Holders!

I've seen TWO, count 'em, TWO signs that I believe are targeted against the popularity of the Mayhem character.

I love me some Mayhem.

Anyway, back to my story...

One of them said 'We don't have funny ads. We do sell excellent insurance'.

The other said 'Funny Ads are great, until you have a CLAIM'.

By the way - I love Mayhem, but I don't have insurance with his company!

Day 2310 - Dem Old Dem-os!

Greetings, Bloggy Presenters!

Today is 'Demo Day' at work, and I will be presenter for part of that time.

We have a saying called 'The CURSE of the Demo', because if something is going to go wrong, it goes wrong during the demo.

We have had system trouble, network trouble, someone deleted all our demo data during the demo, the room was boiling hot, etc etc.

Several people usually take part in the demo, but sometimes I do it all.

Usually I am very cool and calm, even if something goes wrong.  I have noticed over the years that if you don't make a big deal out of it, people won't even notice!

Occasionally I run on too long, or start stumbling over my words, but usually it goes very well.

Wish me luck!

Day 2309 - I look like... WHAT??

Greetings, Monday Morning Blah-gers!

A woman at the health club told me I look like an oreo cookie.

I know she meant it in a nice way...

She explained that my upper half and bottom half are tanned, but my middle is milky white.

Uh... PLEASE DON'T LOOK AT ME IN THE LOCKER ROOM...

TTFN and have a great week!

Day 2308 - Happy Father's Day!

Greetings, Bloggy Dads, Sons and Daughters,

Happy Father's Day!

Today is the day to celebrate, thank, or remember your 'paternal half'.

The half that is responsible for your gender - making you female or male.

Your Dad might have taught you to fish, or drive a car.

Your Dad might have let you stay up late and watch scary movies with him when you had a broken arm  (that was me).

A Happy Father's Day to all fathers!

Day 2307 - CRASH, BANG! Well, only a little...

Greetings, Bloggy Fender Benders!

Uh... I have an incident to report.

Another employee yesterday bumped into my fender while I was parked at work, and knocked a piece of it (the fender flare) out of joint...

She was VERY apologetic about it, and I was not mad or anything, just kind of worried about getting it fixed.

I was hoping that Charlie could pop the fender flare back into place after I got home- it has a slot and a tab, just like a kids toy or something.

Lo and behold, fate sent another employee past my cubicle, and I begged him to come outside and take a peek at it.

PRESTO, CHANGE-O!  Badda Boom, Badda Bing!  He had a screwdriver and FIXED IT IN 30 seconds flat.

Hooray!!!

Day 2306 - Everything's Better With BACON on it...

Greetings, Bloggy Bacon Lovers,

While I have FOOD on the brain (which is a daily thing),  I should say that all the Fully Cooked, Ready to heat and eat BACON options out there ROCK.

I have tried Oscar Mayer, Wal-mart's Great Value brand, Kroger, and a couple more brands.

It is SO quick and easy!

In seconds, you can heat up a few strips for breakfast, OR a sandwich, or chop some up for a salad topping. You can easily wrap slices around scallops or shrimp without the bacon turning out mostly raw.  There is even less grease and waste to deal with.

AND THE BEST NEWS YET?  If you have read the blog over the years, one of my pet peeves is to get a package of bacon that doesn't cook up right.   Edges that curl up, ends that are rubbery with the middles being overdone, funny shaped pieces that won't line up in a pan, slices of uneven thickness etc.

THAT DOESN'T HAPPEN WITH THE PRECOOKED BACON.

Thank you, Oscar Mayer and other manufacturers!

Day 2305 - Diners, Drive-Ins, and HUNGER!

Greetings, Bloggy Triple-D-ers,

I really like the Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives show on the Food Network, but it makes me HUNGRY!

If you haven't seen it - the man in the picture, Guy Fieri, travels around the country to Mom and Pop-dom eateries.

The food shown is INCREDIBLE, creative, and fabulous - from traditional comfort food to offerings and preparations never seen before...

Things that I've seen on the show include cooking a whole prime rib by DEEP FRYING it, a pizza place that makes a pizza bigger than a card table, and a pastrami sandwich with the pastrami stacked at least 6 inches high inside it.

I think I gain a pound every time I watch the show... Thanks, Guy!

Day 2304 - The Death of Pocket Money

Greetings, Bloggy Debits and Creditors!

People don't even keep BILLS in BILLFOLDS anymore, you know.  Their billfolds are full of PLASTIC.

Lots of people I work with NEVER carry any cash. If they need cash, they have to make a special trip to an ATM to get some.

What happens with a kids allowance?  Do they give their child a debit card and put their allowance on it?

How does a child pay for school lunches?  More debit cards, or do they have to have an account at school, or prepay online or something?

Inquiring minds want to know!

Personally, I always want a little bit of cash, there is something satisfying about cash, and knowing you have paid for something and the transaction is OVER right then and there.

TTFN and happy shopping!

Day 2303 - My new BFFs…Hair gel, hair mousse, hair cream…and Baking Soda!

Greetings, Bloggy Stylists!

Every now and then, Charlie will reach into a cupboard, pull out a jar or vial of some kind of hair goo product and say 'What is THIS?'

I have hair gel.

I have hair creme.

I have hair glue.

I have hair mousse.

I have hair spray.

Sometimes I use two or more at the same time.  Some of them seem to rinse out, others stay forever before they disappear.  I even tried to put hand lotion in my hair once... (no comment)

My hairdresser told me to use baking soda mixed with water to dissolve gooey hair products. Just take half a cup of baking soda and dissolve it in a plastic jar with a few cups of water.

Try it - be sure to rinse it out, of course!

Day 2302 - Monday, ALREADY??

Greetings, Monday Morning Blah-gers!

I just have a small rant...

Is there ANYBODY out there that thinks that Monday is the best day of the week?

I guess it's POSSIBLE, maybe for people who work on the weekend and get Mondays off?

I think that Monday is my least favorite day of the week.

It's back to work day.

It's get up early in the morning day.

It's the furthest work day from the NEXT weekend!

So - aren't you happy you read the blog today??

Day 2301 - Jus' Me and My Deere...

Greetings, Bloggy Mowers and Shakers!

Our riding lawn mower is actually a Murray, not a Deere.

For the first time in my life - I actually started it.

NO, I didn't MOW anything or even DRIVE it.

That wouldn't be such a big deal for most people, but I have NEVER, EVER even started a riding lawn mower.

Charlie was pretty tickled with that...

Hope everyone has a great Sunday!

Day 2300 - On Top of Ol' DUNKIN!

Greetings, Bloggy Dunkin Lovers!

Can you believe this enormous Dunkin Donuts cup in Dickson, Tennessee?

It's like the Dunkin Donuts cup merged with the Ghostbusters Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man...

I love Dunkin Donuts coffee.  I love Starbucks too, but they are completely different.  I rarely eat donuts, and I rarely eat bagels, but I love them very much!

They just contribute too much to my 'bottom line'...

Dunkin Donuts ICED coffee rules, by the way.

Just wanted to show you this sporty Tennesse Dunkin' location, TTFN and have a wonderful weekend, everyone!

Day 2299 - It's Friday, Hooray!

Greetings, Bloggy TGIFers-

What a sweet little TGIF sentiment on that shirt - dontcha think?  His head looks a little like the full moon we've had outside the past few days...

It's Friday, Hooray!

You know what to do, march in a circle chanting 'Fri-day! Fri-day! Fri-day!'

This weekend is 'get caught up' weekend. I have a mountain of laundry to do, cooking, cleaning, shopping, etc.

We've been away or busy the last few weekends, so this is my chance to do some of the things I've been putting off.

TTFN and have a wonderful weekend!

Day 2298 - Welcome to Festivus!

Greetings, Bloggy CMA fest-ers!

CMA fest, a.k.a. Fan Fair, is happening this week.

Various family members have attended in the past, and we always had a good time, even if it was boiling or rainy. This photo is of my daughter, Heather, being miserable in the rain.

My favorite moment was when Trace Adkins walked by my sister in law, and she literally almost fainted.  She shook like a leaf from head to toe.

A different year, I insisted on lending $20 to my next-door-seatmate who was out of money and needed to get home when Fan Fair was over.  She sent it right back to me when she got home, proving how nice and honest most people are.

The good news - this week it is NOT supposed to rain on the Fans, but it will be increasingly hot as the weekend approaches.

Have fun if you're going, and don't forget to drink a lot of water and not get too much sun!

Day 2297 - An Incredible.... Dream?

Greetings, Bloggy Dreamers!

I saw the movie 'The Avengers' when we were on vacation in Florida. In the movie, several superheroes come together to save the planet.

One of the superheroes was the Incredible Hulk. The reason I mention him is...

Monday night I dreamed that the Incredible Hulk was trying to get me through the window of my car!  Yipes!

I have NO idea why I dreamed that, but the end result is that it scared me and I reached out (literally) to push the Hulk away and whacked Charlie right in the chest!

So sorry, Charlie!!   I didn't think I was so tough in my sleep - fighting back against the Incredible Hulk is probably not such a smart thing to do!

Day 2296 - Food Challenge Number 5000...

Greetings, Bloggy Flipped Out-ers!

The hardest kitchen challenge I can think of (aside from overeating of course), is FLIPPING AN EGG.

You'd think after forty years or so of cooking, that would be a snap.  NOT SO...

Charlie likes his eggs over medium.  That means the yolk should still be runny, but the egg should be turned over.

The 'Turning Over' part of the equation is the difficulty...

The heat has to be just right.

You have to wait just the right amount of time for the white to be set and ready to turn, without cooking the underside of the yellow part.

You have to make a firm slide of the spatula under the egg to be able to turn it, and turn it without crashing the yolk into the side of the pan or the edge of the spatula.

You must turn it gently or you will break the yolk.

MOST of the time I can do it, but I apologize a lot when I don't!!

Day 2295 - Monday, Monday....

Greetings, Monday Morning Blah-gers!

This is one of the fish I caught on Saturday, and I might have eaten it last night.  We caught this on Kentucky Lake in the Big Sandy area.

I like that thought, because Dwight Yoakum (who is from Kentucky) sings a song where he mentions the Big Sandy.

That fish is a white perch, also called a crappie, also called a sacalait in cajun country.

They are ABSOLUTELY the most flaky, tender, moist and delicious whitefish ever.

I think Sunday nights will be 'fish fry' night, as we will be eating our catch for several weeks!  We reeled in a grand total of THIRTY FISH, twenty nine crappie and one striped bass.

TTFN and I KNOW you are jealous!

Day 2294 - What makes white clothing ATTRACTIVE?

Greetings, Bloggy Spotters!

Most days I don't usually worry about spots and stains on my clothing... UNLESS I am wearing white.

If I put on a white shirt, I can pretty much bank on SOMETHING getting it dirty.

Even a visit to the sink can get detergent on you, or water, or both.

I still can't muster the bravery required to wear white SLACKS... I just can't do it.  That is too large an area of fabric to control!

Saturday, June 02, 2012

Day 2293 - STOP HELPING ME!

Greetings, Bloggy Smart Phoners!

Maybe I am just plain DUMB, but I wish my smart phone wouldn't keep trying to HELP me all the time.

If I type something, it tries to GUESS what I am trying to type, and most of the time it is wrong.

I hit lots of wrong keys.  One example - I turned my english into Chinese characters once.

I don't know all the menus yet, and sometimes I hit a key and see things like Emoticons (smiley faces) instead of letters and numbers.

If I search, it starts showing me results before I have stopped typing, meaning it shows me results by GUESS-ing what I am going to type.  Given my non-stellar typing skills, it is frustrating.

Bottom line - DON'T HELP ME or I WILL UNPLUG YOU.

Friday, June 01, 2012

Day 2292 - Friday, Hooray!

Greetings, Bloggy TGIFers-

Wow! It's Friday already - that is awesome!  Nothing like a short week to kick off the weekend.

I can't believe it has been a week since we came back from Florida.

As you recall - we drove the last 200 miles with no air conditioning, and then had company arrive, and then had a holiday, before going back to work on Tuesday.

I think I'm ready for the weekend!
