Day 2139 - It's New Years Eve!!

Greetings, Bloggy Bye-Bye 2011-ers!

Dick Clark will help us say goodbye to 2011 and Hello to 2012!

I hate to say this, but in general, New Years Eve STINKS.

I have tried to have parties, and I have tried to GO to parties. BoooRRRiiiiNNNgggg!

I have gone to 'First Night' Celebrations in Boston and Providence, and froze to death. I have tried to watch television, which is a huge mistake. Nothing is worse than New Years Eve programming on TV.

The best thing I can think of? The Twilight Zone marathons. Staying awake voluntarily till midnight? It's overrated.

That's it. Let's all get it over with, shall we?

Catch ya NEXT YEAR!!!

Day 2138 - I'll Take the Christmas Tree Down NEXT YEAR!

Greetings, Bloggy Procrastinators!

I like this time of year, because I can safely say 'I'll get around to it NEXT YEAR'.

I'll take down my Christmas tree NEXT YEAR.

I'll scrub my ever-aggravating kitchen floor NEXT YEAR.

I'll pay some bills NEXT YEAR (that sounds REALLY good!)

I might even clean the oven NEXT YEAR!

Better and better and better...

Day 2137 - Don't Touch My Tree - Part II

Greetings, Bloggy Tree Huggers!

Aunt Nancy said it - that her tree looks like a New Years tree.

Is there such a thing, and if there is - how can I convert my Christmas tree to a New Years tree so I don't have to take it down???

I found a great cartoon on the web, but it is copyrighted so I didn't dare post it on the blog...

The cartoon depicts a husband and wife in bed.

The decorated Christmas tree is BETWEEN THEM in bed.

Husband is saying to wife 'It's time to throw it out!'

I am sure the wife said, very sweetly, 'No!'

TTFN and stay tuned for more of the 'Don't Touch My Tree' mini-series.

Day 2136 - No! No! Not the Tree!

Greetings, Bloggy Trash Collectors!

You can have the commode - hands off the Christmas tree! I realized yesterday that I'm going to have to take it down soon.

NO. NO. NO. I WON'T. I HAVEN'T HAD THE TREE UP LONG ENOUGH.

NO. NO. NO. I WON'T. I LOVE IT, AND I NEVER WANT TO TAKE IT DOWN.

Do you feel that way about your tree?

I'm not going to take it down for at LEAST another week.

TTFN and DON'T TOUCH MY TREE!

Day 2135 - All is Well, and its Back to Work!

Greetings, Bloggy Back to Work-ers!

We had a great day yesterday with Charlie's family, and the dishwasher, stove and even the sluggish commode performed admirably.

Thank heavens!

We had chili with shredded cheese and toppings, homemade summer sausage, ham on rolls or biscuits, green beans, chips and vegetables with dip, sausage balls, and banana splits for dessert. We ran the dishwasher three times yesterday!

Well, it's not Monday anymore - which is a good thing! I'll have a short week this week, but a busy one due to the shortened schedule.

I hope everyone had a great Christmas, and the New Year is ALMOST HERE!

Day 2134 - All I want for Christmas is a brand new EVERYTHING!

Greetings, Bloggy Holiday Weekenders!

Charlie's family is coming for dinner, visiting and presents today.

So... Murphy is helping to make the event a grand success!

We were planning to get through the holidays before we replaced the dishwasher, and it is barely limping along. Charlie glued the broken piece in place, as a matter of fact. The silverware is spotty, and we always have to wash dishes on the heavy cycle or they don't get clean.

As I write the blog, the guest bath commode (which company normally uses) is running really slow, and our plunger doesn't work well. *big sigh of disappointment*

Fingers crossed that the stove doesn't decide to join the pity party.

TTFN and wish me luck!

Day 2133 - Merry Christmas!

Greetings, and Merry Christmas!

This is the PERFECT picture to show Christmas morning.

Early to wake, a rush to the presents, the great unveiling adventure... You try to take pictures, the room is a mess, there are boxes everywhere, general pandemonium.

Then the adrenaline rush fades, and everyone crashes.

You spend the rest of the day watching reruns of 'A Christmas Story' over and over, and start planning what you need to buy on clearance if you can find it!

Have a VERY Merry Christmas, Everyone!

Day 2132 - Twas the Night Before Christmas - TODAY!

Greetings, Bloggy Christmas Eve-ers!

Do YOU put out cookies and milk for Santa?

Or cookies and cocoa?

Or a little cash, perhaps, to sweeten Santas retirement account? Kidding!!

I'm excited! I'm going to start my Christmas Eve normally, by going to my water aerobics classes in the morning, and stopping for a few last minute groceries.

I'm not sure what we're doing in the afternoon, maybe a movie.

Then a cozy evening at home with a fire in the fireplace, waiting for Santa to arrive.

Sounds nice, doesn't it? Merry Christmas, Everyone!

Day 2131 - Quaker Meeting Has Begun...

Greetings, Bloggy Game Players-

Charlie and his son hadn't heard of the 'Quaker Meeting' game that I played as a kid. I told them how we would play it.

Even Wikipedia knows about it, I believe it's a New England thing...

You sit in a circle with some other kids.

You chant 'Quaker Meeting has begun. No more talking, no more fun. If you show your teeth or tongue, you'll have to pay a forfeit. Starting NOW!'

Everyone had to keep from talking, laughing or smiling. Whoever 'caved in' and showed their teeth or tongue was the loser.

So - tell me if you know what I'm talking about, especially if you are NOT from New England.

Day 2130 - Christmas Past

Greetings, Family Tree Huggers!

Here is another picture from the late 50's - I am the baby, my sister is the older toddler.

The chair in which we are sitting was covered with a very scratchy material - I remember it well.

We won't say WHICH year that was...

My grandfather's expression was 'Hurry up and take the picture because this child is about to squirm away!'

I believe I have started to stop Christmas shopping - is that even a sentence???

TTFN and Christmas is almost HERE!!!!

Day 2129 - More Old Timey Stuff!

Greetings, Bloggy Christmas Wishers-

This photo is of my sister, Marcia, on a Christmas long ago.

Unfortunately, it is NOT ME. It is one of my favorites, though! I love her happy expression.

Let's take a look back in time - shall we?

Note the thick layer of tinsel on the tree - does anyone even USE tinsel anymore?

Behind her are typical Christmas gifts for Dad - a tool box, a tie, and a sport shirt. Awesome!

TTFN and I hope YOU get what you're wishing for this Christmas!

Day 2128 - Twas the night before the night before the night before... etc.

Greetings, Bloggy Storytellers!

Here is one of my favorite photos of all time. My father or grandmother would read to us from the 1960 Childcraft books (like the encyclopedia, except for kids).

That's me in the upper left with the socks on, I didn't have cool footie-pajamas like my sister sitting next to me.

I have several Childcraft book sets now, purchased during my efforts to find a pristine set. They all have writing or chocolate or crayon scribbles or spilled drinks on them. I'm not kidding!

Uh oh... Changing subjects. I just noticed that the lamp shade still has the plastic on it.

Apologies for that! Ha!

Day 2127 - Christmas Countdown is ON!

Greetings, Bloggy Tick Tockers!

The countdown to Christmas is ON-

ARE YOU READY YET?

I'm not, but I am getting closer. I have more cards to get in the mail, so I need to finish those up PRONTO.

The house is almost clean, the guest room is ready. Good thing, because we have company coming in TOMORROW NIGHT.

I have a question - did you ever PEEK and look for presents in the house?
As far as I know, my kids never did. They knew that it would spoil their anticipation.

However, MY SISTER AND I did look one time, and yes, I should say - it DOES spoil your anticipation.

So... my countdown advice is NO SNEAKING NO PEEKING!

Day 2126 - Wow! A Christmas Eve Magic Potion!

Greetings, Bloggy Sleeping Beauties-

Yesterday at water aerobics, we had to tread water continuously for 8 minutes. We chatted while we were staying afloat.

I asked the group to tell me about their Christmas traditions.

I told about being a kid and getting notes from Santa on our stockings. I told that gifts from Santa were normally unwrapped, but non-Santa presents were wrapped.

I told about my friend who had new p.j.'s and robes each Christmas eve for her children, so they would look cute for Christmas photos.

And then one man (who is about 72) offered this info... and this was something I'd never heard of. He made a special drink each Christmas Eve for his children, promising them extra-deep sleep so that Santa would come and they wouldn't wake up too early! He said it always worked.

I got my buddy 'Google' involved, and yes, people even SELL the potion - see today's photo. Pretty cool, eh?

Day 2125 - The Death of a DEAL!

Greetings, Bloggy Chickie Babies!

It is with deep regret that I announce the death of one of my favorite deals...

The price of Sams Club Rotisserie chicken has been increased by a DOLLAR to $5.99.

I know, I know - a dollar isn't the worst thing in the world, and it's better to raise the price a dollar than start offering SMALLER chickens for the same price.

If I didn't have anything to complain about, why write a blog?

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Day 2124 - A Picture Says a Thousand Words!

Greetings, Bloggy Photo Shoppers!

Here's another great photo from last Christmas - one of my very favorites. I think I need some holiday pictures from THIS YEAR!

GUESS WHAT?

There was a Christmas party last night for my department. The 'gift' for the employees was a wall calendar, with WONDERFUL, often humorous photos of management.

Each month features a different manager. MY manager is featured for the month of March, and is dressed as a leprechaun!

It is AWESOME - the absolutely best idea for a workplace gift I could possibly imagine.

Day 2123 - Survivor Finale this Sunday!

Greetings, Bloggy Workin' for The Weekenders-

Here's a really cute picture from Christmas last year. Isn't that a cute little angelic face?

But no Christmas talk in today's blog, I HAVE to talk about Survivor.

This has been an interesting season because there were so many people I dislike!

I can't stand Coach. I can't stand Albert. I can't stand Brandon.

For ME, I want the winner to be either Ozzy or Sophie, and Ozzy has to win the next challenge at Redemption Island.

But set your DVRs - the finale is SUNDAY NIGHT the 18th.

Day 2122 - You Got Peanut Butter on My Chocolate!

Greetings, Bloggy Peanut Butterers!

I was in a meeting recently, and someone said, jokingly, 'You Got Peanut Butter on My Chocolate!'

MOST people knew what she was talking about, but some younger people didn't.

For those of you who don't remember, it was a Reeses Peanut Butter cup commercial, and a very popular one too!

I am sure you can find it on Youtube if you want to see it again.

Now changing subjects- I've mentioned how much I like 'Mayhem' in those insurance commercials.

Last night I saw a cold medicine commercial that features a guy named 'Mucus'. NOT funny.

Day 2121 - So Many Things I Don't Know!

Greetings, Bloggy Know-It-Alls,

It's remarkable how clueless I can be about some things.

One recent example is that I never knew that in a pinch, you can use your DVD player to play a CD!

I know, I know, a DVD looks like a CD and all, but one is a movie or video, and one is just music.

For some reason, I never even considered putting a music CD into the DVD player to see what would happen until we were on vacation for Thanksgiving.

This was an oversight on my part! Now I am very happy to know that a DVD player has more than one use...

That's all, no earth shattering news, unless you're ME!

Day 2120 - Monday, Monday....

Greetings, Monday Moaning Blah-gers!

The completely vacant-looking Christmas morning child in the red bathrobe is ME.

My grandmother is on the couch in the background.

There is a chalkboard in the photo. I NEVER noticed that on the chalkboard it says 'To Karen from Santa'! Awesome!

It's back to work today...but...

There are Christmas boxes that I need to mail, and they aren't ready yet. My Christmas cards haven't been started. My Christmas dinner hasn't been purchased. My house is a MESS.

Hope YOU have a wonderful Monday!

Day 2119 - Happy Birthday, Dave!

Greetings, Bloggy Celebrants!

Today is my brothers birthday...

I hope I remember to get on Facebook to write 'Happy Birthday' on his wall.

I sent him a card that said on the front 'It doesn't matter what you get for your birthday'... and on the inside it said 'It only matters what I get for MY birthday'.

That is what sisters DO!

Day 2118 - Litigation LOOT!

Greetings, Bloggy Money Grubbers-

I got a FREE CHECK IN THE MAIL YESTERDAY that I wasn't expecting. (cheers and applause) Has that ever happened to you?

It was my share of a litigation (lawsuit) settlement for currency conversion charges incurred when I used to travel to England for work.

Of course, that was YEARS ago - I haven't been to England in 7 or 8 years? I can't remember exactly when I was there last.

Anyway - I need to get that check in the bank, it is burning a hole in my pocketbook!

Uh... the amount?

EIGHTEEN DOLLARS and four cents.

Well, it's FREE MONEY, isn't it?

Day 2117 - What a JERK!

Greetings, Bloggy TGIFers!

I can't even believe the jerk who was at the pool yesterday. He was so unpleasant that everyone just felt sick over it.

This man's child was where he didn't belong, entertaining himself by splashing the people trying to have water aerobics class.

When the instructor asked the child to return to his father, the father got ugly and insisted that HIS child didn't need to move, that the entire class should move to the other end of the pool!

He also apologized to one woman for his son splashing, then completely negated his insincere apology by saying 'It's WATER, GET OVER IT'.

He's a jerk, and I can't get over it...

Day 2116 - Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow!

Greetings, Bloggy Snowbirds!

We had our first snow yesterday...

Is it really WINTER?

Nope, not till December 22nd. Somebody forgot to tell Mother Nature, eh?

Not enough to make the roads bad, but enough to look pretty. It was cold too - 33 degrees as I write the blog.

Many thanks goes to our staff photographer, Charlie for this lovely picture. You may notice that his camera needed a date adjustment! He has corrected that now.

Day 2115 - The Christmas Play...

Greetings, Bloggy Christmas Cheer-ers!
I heard a great, and TRUE story at the Beekeepers Banquet Monday night.

This happened many years ago...

A young girl came home from school, excited that she had been chosen for a role in the school Christmas play.

Her mother asked 'What part will you be playing?'

The daughter answered 'I'm going to be a Ho!'

The mother, CALMLY said 'Honey - what does that mean?'

The daughter said 'There are three of us - we say 'HO','HO,'HO'!'

Now tell me, is that the cutest story ever??

Day 2114 - Time for the BeeKeepers Christmas Banquet Again!

Greetings, Bloggy Beekeepers!

Can you believe this photo - a nutcracker for beekeepers! How AWESOME IS THAT?

Charlie told me that many moons ago, 'kept' bees lived in small, domed shaped hives which were usually tended by monks.

When it was honey gathering time, the hive had to be broken apart to retrieve the honey. Of course, that destroyed it.

Over time, the modern hives with frames were developed. The frames can be safely removed without harming the hive or the bees.

Too cool, eh?

So, back to my story...

Last night was the Beekeepers Christmas Potluck, which I always enjoy going to. I brought corn pudding, and Buddy Joe brought sweet molasses to pour over it as a topping.

TTFN and have a nice Tuesday!

Day 2113 - You mean they named a car after a SNEEZE?

Greetings, Bloggy Auto-matics!

Yep, at least that’s what I think happened (not!). The auto industry must have run out of names.

Charlie and I were watching football last night, and we heard a commercial for the new Suzuki Kizashi.

Say that three times fast – Kizashi, Kizashi, Kizachi.

Sounds just like a sneeze to me, though your mileage may vary! Ha! Check out the NOSE on that car, it is impressive!

However, putting my vast research staff (Google) to work, Kizashi means ‘A sign of great things to come’ in Japanese.

I still think what is coming requires a box of tissues…

TTFN and have a great Monday!

Sunday, December 04, 2011

Day 2112 - The tree is in progress!!

Greetings, Bloggy Christmas Decorators!

No, no picture yet, but last night I put the lights on the tree, and Charlie took out the ornament box.

I probably told you a year ago about my lights, but it bears repeating.

Over the years, my packages of tree lights had started to give out. I remembered that I had a box of OUTDOOR icicle style lights.

Long story short, they work perfectly fine and stringing them is just as easy.

We might go see 'The Immortals' this afternoon!

TTFN and enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Saturday, December 03, 2011

Day 2111 - Cute Movie!

Greetings, Bloggy Weekenders -

I really hope to get the lights on the tree this weekend, and start writing Christmas cards, and a bunch more stuff.

We watched a cute movie last night, instead of decorating the tree.

The name of the movie is 'Just Like Heaven', starring Reese Witherspoon, who plays a ghost.

That's all I'm gonna say - it was a funny and sweet romantic comedy, and Charlie liked it too.

TTFN and have a nice weekend!

Friday, December 02, 2011

Day 2110 - Ready, Set, NOT!

Greetings, Bloggy Sugar Plums!

Hooray! It's Friday! Where did this week go?

You know what to do, march in a circle chanting 'Fri-day! Christ-mas! Fri-day! Christ-mas!'

Am I any closer to being ready for Christmas? NOT!

I look at the bare Christmas tree in the corner every evening. No lights on it yet.

I did buy 3 boxes of brand-new, unopened Christmas cards at Goodwill for 99cents a box. Haven't opened them.

I did buy Christmas stamps, but I haven't mailed anything!

Do you sense a pattern here? Something like 'a day late and a dollar short'? HA! Maybe I'll catch up this weekend. Have a good one!

Day 2109 - Happy December!

Greetings, Winter Wonderlanders-

Here's a photo from last Christmas - my granddaughter at my sisters house.

If you didn't read the comments on the weekend, my three year old granddaughter was disappointed the day after they put the tree up.

She thought that putting up the tree meant that Santa Claus was going to come the next morning!

Charlie's grandson, also three, went to have his picture taken with Santa Claus, and told him what he wanted for Christmas. When they left, he was disappointed that Santa Claus didn't give him his toy right then after he told him what he wanted.

It's very interesting what WE take for granted - their young minds don't know all the details of the 'Christmas Schedule', do they?
