Day 1713 - Happy Halloween!
Greetings, Bloggy Trick or Treaters -
Here's our little angel...er...devil, Savannah dressed up for her first Halloween.
We watched football and baseball yesterday in the den with the pumpkin lit up on the coffee table. It looked good.
I had fun at the craft fair yesterday, and plan to go to another one next weekend.
I bought something for Savannah, and a couple other Christmas presents IF I can stand to give them away.
I am NOT in the craft fair groove yet, meaning I wasn't as prepared as I should have been.
I didn't bring my checkbook, and ran out of cash. I left with a dollar to my name, but that forced me to stop shopping, I will say that much!
This afternoon Charlie and I are going to see 'Retired and Extremely Dangerous' - should be fun.
TTFN and have a great Sunday!

Day 1712 - It's Halloween Eve!
Greetings, Bloggy Pumpkin Eve-ages!
This looks like a very heavy pumpkin for those cute little hands!
Well, I get to enjoy my carved pumpkin for the next several days, till it starts getting pruny.
Then we'll put it out to pasture... literally...
It's not even Halloween, but guess what I'm doing after water aerobics this morning?
GOING TO MY FIRST CHRISTMAS CRAFT FAIR OF THE SEASON! Wahoo!
I don't have anything particular in mind, but I am sure I'll find something I can't live without.
Then it's off to the supermarket, then home.
No plans yet for Sunday, maybe a movie. We don't really get any trick or treaters anymore, so I didn't even buy any candy.
How about YOU?
TTFN and have a nice Saturday!

Day 1711 - You don't know Jack.. O'Lantern...
Greetings, Bloggy TGIFers!
It's Friday, Hooray!
You know what to do - march in a circle chanting 'Fri-day! Fri-day! Fri-day!'
Here it is - my pumpkin carving contest entry for work. I think the teeth came out all right, maybe not perfect, but they'll do.
What do you think?
I think it's 'OK' - considering I didn't spend very long on it. I quit while I was ahead before I really screwed something up...
Charlie liked it, so I'm good with that.
Have a great Friday, and a great weekend, and a great Halloween! TTFN!

Day 1710 - Halloween is getting closer!
Greetings, Bloggy Trick or Treaters!
Here's another cute Savi pumpkin patch picture.
Speaking of cute - I saw this bumper sticker yesterday:
Back off! I'm NOT that kind of car!
That's pretty funny, I hadn't seen that one before.
So - what kind of candy are you giving out for Halloween?
I've been buying these big tubs of UTZ halloween wrapped 50 calorie bags of pretzels at Sams Club and bringing them to work.
We (people at work including me) have consumed TWO 70-pack tubs so far, and I just opened another one today. Thank goodness it wasn't CANDY.
I HAVE to carve my pumpkin tonight - it has to be turned in Friday morning. Wish me luck!
Wednesday, October 27, 2010
Day 1709 - Midweek and Midlife
Greetings, Bloggy Middlers...
Do you like this pumpkin? I do!
I want to do teeth like these on my pumpkin carving contest pumpkin, or maybe make a very similar one.
Has anyone ever tried carving teeth like this on a pumpkin?
It doesn't LOOK all that hard, but getting just that thin layer of orange off the outside might be difficult.
Anyway - I think this is POSSIBLE. What do YOU think? Doable?
Then I can print a little sign that says 'Look, Ma - No Cavities!'
TTFN and have a nice Wednesday!

Day 1708 - Could I have some SERVICE, please?
Greetings, Bloggy Restaurant Goers -
Look at this extremely happy smile on Miss Savi. I just can't get over that HAT, by the way. Too adorable...
Now, to tell you the latest in the R.E.D. (Retired and Extremely Dangerous) escapades of Charlie and his friend T.Y...
I remind you of the 'tomato story', when Charlie and Tommy asked for some sliced tomatoes with their breakfast, and the waitress (with an audible sigh of exasperation) took some off another table just long enough for them to spear a few, then returned the remainder to the other table...
They had the same waitress last week, and needed creamers for their coffee. After waiting an appropriate amount of time for the waitress to bring them, they politely asked for some.
The waitress leaned over to another table (of policemen) and took a handful of their creamers. The policeman reacted in surprise with a 'Hey! Those are ours!'. Life continues...
So - YESTERDAY, Charlie and T.Y. went back to try again.
The restaurant had two waitresses on, a crowd of customers, and long story short - THEY NEVER GOT WAITED ON AND EVENTUALLY WALKED OUT WITH NO BREAKFAST.
Enough is enough. They do not intend to try that place again anytime soon...
TTFN and have a nice Tuesday!

Day 1707 - Monday, Monday...
Greetings, Monday Morning Blah-gers -
Yes. It's Monday. AGAIN....
Look at our little darling Savi on a magical flying elephant. Love this picture - look at her happy face!
I use so many exclamation marks on these blog posts that I have to go back and take them OUT.
Inside voice, Karen.... (ha!)
I have half a day off today (this morning) for doctor followup visits and a slam-o-gram, but I am leaving even earlier than usual! (go figure)
I'm going to go swim before my slam-o-gram, then the rest of the morning will be spent at various medical offices seeing all my favorite docs.
Have a nice Monday and TTFN!

Day 1706 - Pumpkins and Patches
Greetings, Blogregation!
Here's one of my favorite pictures from Savi's pumpkin patch adventure yesterday. I stole it from Facebook.
The weekend is going by too fast.
I know I say that every weekend, but it's true! Two days is NOT enough to do whatever I want to do.
Here's an update on the 'horses in the corner' - the three sets of horses all trying to stand in the same corner of their field.
They had disappeared for a while, which worried me, but the pasture had dried up in the recent drought and they might have been moved. But they're back, and again, they take turns trying to dominate that corner.
The black horses got the spot this afternoon, and left a matching 'gift pile' on the ground for any other pair of horses who wanted to stand there.
You'd think they would have MOVED out of the corner to 'use the facilities'? Nope.
TTFN and have a great Sunday!

Day 1705 - The weekend is HERE!
Greetings, Bloggy Weekenders -
Look at all these pumpkins! I took this picture off the internet, but I like it anyway.
I got a free pumpkin yesterday at work. I am entering a pumpkin carving contest, and they provided the pumpkin.
No, I don't have my 'theme' yet for it, but I have a couple of ideas. And yes, I'll get to cook and eat the pumpkin seeds - hooray!
Can you believe that big, beautiful pumpkin shaped FULL MOON last night? Absolutely awesome.
Have a nice Saturday, whatever you have planned!
Friday, October 22, 2010
Day 1704 - It's Friday!
Greetings, Bloggy TGIFers -
I stole this photo of Savi from Jens Facebook photos. Too funny!
It's Friday, Hooray!
You know what to do, march in a circle chanting 'Fri-day! Fri-day! Fri-day!'
I'm telling you - there is something about the full moon that makes some people CRAZY.
Several different cars tried to run me over last night, like I was invisible. Maybe they were blinded by the full moon?
And yesterday, in a hugely busy parking lot, swarming with cars and noise and people, a small bunny was making its way across the parking lot in search of...whatever!
What was a bunny doing there in the concrete jungle? Maybe it was the MOON that encouraged the bunny to explore?
The answer is... I dunno. Have a nice weekend and be careful!

Day 1703 - Friday Eve?
Greetings, Bloggy Waitin' for the Weekenders!
Yep, here is another example of Halloween Hay Bale Arts and Crafts. What will we name him?
How about 'Amos' - his outfit looks like a little Amish, don't you think? Ya, Ya...
Changing subjects to random stuff-
It's the full moon again, and I just love seeing the moon as I'm driving home in the DARK. I get home late on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, and sometimes Thursdays! Good grief.
Yesterday's C# programming class was cancelled, so no homework this week either. Hooray!
I keep forgetting that Wednesday, not Thursday is Survivor Night, so I never remember to remind Aunt Nancy to tape it!
What do you think of Survivor this year? Charlie is enjoying the new challenges they have come up with. I think the players are pretty bad this year, I don't have many favorites.
Have a nice Thursday and HURRY UP, FRIDAY! TTFN!

Day 1702 - Midweek and MidMonth and MidLife
Greetings, Bloggy Middlers!
Here's another Halloween Hay Bale - this time a pumpkin.
Hey - when is 'It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown' going to be on TV? That is one of my favorite holiday specials.
Come to think of it - I used to have that special on VHS. I guess I still do... somewhere!
Heather - what is Savi going to be for Halloween?
I signed up for the Pumpkin Carving Contest we are going to have at work. That means I'll get a free pumpkin, and get to bake the pumpkin seeds.
Quick - somebody send me a stencil!
Charlie and I watched the 'Clash of the Titans' DVD last night. We liked it. I think they stole quite a few effects from the Lord of the Rings.
Have a nice Midweek/Midmonth/Midlife - TTFN!

Day 1701 - Twofer Tuesday
Greetings, Bloggy Twofers!
Isn't this the cutest Halloween spider made out of a round bale of hay? I really don't know what the legs are made out of though.
(play ZZ Top singing 'She's got legs')
There is one similar to this down the street at a nearby tree nursery place.
Who thinks up this stuff, anyway?
And speaking of hay... I saw someone throw a cigarette butt out of the car window last night. It is EXTREMELY dry here, and just one cigarette could cause a fire.
Guess I'll make this short and sweet. TTFN and have a nice Tuesday!

Day 1700 - Name That RoadKill... or...
UFO Sighting
Greetings, Monday Morning Blah-gers!
First - check out this adorable photo of Miss Savi in the pumpkin patch.
She looks so cute in that sweater, and I think she would have had a hard time lifting THAT pumpkin!
Next - do not read further if you are extremely upset by the thought of roadkill.
I'm just telling the truth. I'm not saying it's a good thing for cars to run over animals and birds. I hate it if a bird flies into my car, or a squirrel runs across the road at the wrong time. However, it happens.
When I pass roadkill (which is regularly) I can't help noticing that the same thoughts go through my mind every time. That is what makes any topic blog worthy, even this one.
My first thought is to make sure I avoid it - I don't want to drive through animal debris.
My second thought is the UFO (Unidentified Furry Object, or Charlie suggested Unidentified Flattened Object) question.
What WAS that animal? Do I recognize what 'it' used to be?
Most of the time I can, but sometimes I can't! That is pretty bad.
I admit, if the roadkill was a wild animal, I feel less sympathetic than if it was a dog or cat that I know was someone's pet. I really do feel bad if I see a cat or dog at the side of the road.
That's all. Feel free to tell me whether you do that too, or not! TTFN!

Day 1699 - Sunday, Already? Noooo!!
Greetings, Blogregation!
Here's little Savi-dancer, check out the black and white striped leggings under the fairy skirt. Ha!!The legs made me laugh out loud.
The weekend is going by too fast! Slow down!
I am working on Halloween cards. (8 of 'em).
Speaking of spooky... Nashville made the #7 spot of the top 10 most dangerous cities with a population over 500,000.
When we turn on the news in the morning, we call it the 'Shooting and stabbing report'.
Memphis, however, was NUMBER ONE. Good grief. Graceland anyone? No thanks, I'll pass. Tennessee also (last time I looked) led the country in bankruptcies. Sheesh.
The good news? This winter we MIGHT use less heat, we are getting new windows in about a month. Don't even ask how much those are going to cost.
TTFN and have a nice Sunday!

Day 1698 - No time for bloggage
Greetings, Bloggy Hopefuls!
Nope - no blog today, we left the house early to vote on 'early voting Saturday', then I had water aerobics, then I went to Walmart, then I went to Sams Club for gas, then home because the window man was coming (we need new windows).
More tomorrow! Uh...maybe....

Day 1697 - It's Friday! Have a cigar!
Greetings, Bloggy TGIFers!
It's Friday, Hooray!
This has been a tough week for me. I have been struggling with a computer issue for the entire week that is driving me completely crazy.
You know what to do - march in a circle chanting Fri-day! Fri-day! Fri-day!
See - this cow is celebrating by pretending to smoke a cigar... actually a corn cob.
Obviously - Savi was feeding it.
Confession - when I was a kid (I mean really a kid - 8 or 10) I tried to smoke one of those cigar shaped pond plants (called a cattail or catkin) and almost burned my throat off. Readers - don't do that!
Have a wonderful weekend, be careful, and wish me luck resolving my problem!

Day 1696 - Friday Eve...
Greetings, Bloggy Waitin' for the Weekenders!
Crack reporter, Charlie has contributed a story for the blog today.
Thank you, Charlie!
I saw a small, portable generator on sale the other day and thought it would be handy to use around the hunting camp. Even though it was powered by a small two-cycle engine (which can be an aggravation to keep running) I went ahead and ordered it.
The day it arrived, like any boy... er...man with a new toy, I couldn't wait to give it a try. I attached the handle, used the owners manual to make sure I knew the various controls, and gave the starter rope a pull.
According to the manual, the engine should start in 3 pulls, 5 at the most. It didn't start in 3, 5, 1o, or however many times I tried. If I used starter fluid, it would run for a few seconds, then die. It was late in the day, so I decided to put the thing away and try again the next morning. As I thought overnight about what had happened, I came to the conclusion the engine was not getting gas.
First thing the next morning I removed the fuel line from the carburetor and checked for fuel flow. Nothing was coming through - not one drop.
This is a brand new engine and there is no fuel flow. What could be the problem? Hmmm....
After putting in some GAS, it started on the first pull.
Am I not a mechanical genius?

Day 1694 - Keep a Stiff Upper Lip!
Greetings, Bloggy Hygenists -
I have a stiff upper lip, all right - because it is FROZEN SOLID after a trip to the dentist to fix an old filling.
My mouth started out frozen after the stuff set in, then travelled to my lip, then upper lip, until even my right nostril was numb. It was awesome.
I LOVE my dentist.
He could have told me I needed an expensive crown instead of drilling my old filling out and redoing it.
He could have gone ultra-lightly on the numbing medication which would have made the drilling hurt.
I felt like I was at Maaco - getting welded, buffed, and painted. I came out looking like new.
When I was done - the dentist brought me a mirror.
He didn't bother to say 'SMILE' - he knew I couldn't! So he said 'Pull up that lip and have a look!'
TTFN and SMILE extra today!

Day 1693 - Welcome to the Hotel Walmart...
Greetings, Monday Morning Blah-gers!
First - Happy Birthday to my nephew Charles today! I hope he got my card.
I need to tell you about something that occurred on Saturday. I went to Walmart to get some groceries.
After chit chatting with the checkout lady about someone buying lime yogurt for their DOG, and about a good corn maze, I went out to my car and unloaded my groceries.
Driving off, I noticed my 'trunk door ajar' incon lit. Oh drat - I didn't close my trunk all the way. I pulled into a parking space at the very end of the parking lot. There happened to be another car facing me at the end of the next row over.
I glanced over - there was a girl sitting in the passenger seat, but no driver. I figured he or she was inside Walmart.
I got out of my car and closed the trunk door firmly. The car alarm went off on the car in front of me, and was quickly silenced. (of course, I felt like it was MY fault, but it wasn't).
I got into my car and started the engine. All of a sudden I noticed there were TWO occupants in the car, and they were preparing to leave. I quickly got a clue and realized there may have been some sort of rendezvous going on, that I had just interrupted! Their cozy, private spot at the end of the parking lot was INVADED by little ole ME, and I put an end to their activities.
I didn't mean to! I just wanted to shut my trunk!
The moral of the story? GET A ROOM!

Day 1692 and TEN, TEN, TEN!
Greetings, Blogregation -
Happy 10-10-10! I like the sound of that.
Here is little Savi, who is a '10' in the granddaughter category.
Today is one of my sisters birthdays, and my brother's wedding anniversary.
There was a contest in Las Vegas, and at 10am, 10 lucky couples got engaged at Cesars Palace, as well as getting a free trip to Vegas! How fun is THAT?
Charlie and I got up a little late this morning (after 7!), so I'll make this short and get ready to go swim.
We had a nice time at Buddy Joes last night, and by the number on the scale, I ate too much!
TTFN and have a nice 10/10/10!

Day 1691 - A nice summer weekend - in the fall!
Greetings, Bloggy Harvesters -
Here's another favorite Savi photo from the archives... Look at her cute little face as she sits amid the pumpkins!
We're going to have to Harvest from our summer wardrobe, I'll tell ya!
After freezing cold weather and multiple frosts, we have entered into a 'fall furnace' period.
It will be in the high 80's for the next few days, and not cool down (into the 70's) till the end of next week.
We're going to go to Buddy Joes and grill catfish for supper tonight. That will be fun.
TTFN and have a great Saturday!

Day 1690 - Friday, Hooray!
Greetings, Bloggy TGIFers -
It's Friday, Hooray! You know what to do - march in a circle chanting 'Fri-day! Fri-day! Fri-day!'
I have a somewhat funny story about my Sams Club visit yesterday...
First of all - I was very happy entering Sams because it was rush hour and I didn't hit much traffic getting over there from the health club.
I shopped, minimizing my 'browsing' and sticking to my list. I quickly and efficiently chose the shortest line - very few registers were open. There were 2 people ahead of me in line, one lady with a bunch of kids and two large electronic items, and another lady with several items.
I waited. The lady with all the kids couldn't find her Sams Club card. The other lady in front of me said 'would you mind if I go ahead'? And she escaped. Then lady with all the kids found her card. Too bad, that meant I couldn't go ahead of her too.
Then lady with all the kids wanted to ring the items separately, but they were too big to scan on the conveyor belt. She needed help and they had to ring each item, one at a time, and punch in the bar codes.
The process for her to swipe her card and PAY took forever each time. She couldn't remember her PIN and had to look it up in her phone. Then lady with all the kids wasted some more time doing heaven knows what. Then lady with all the kids had a discussion with the girl at the register about some promotion. Then lady with all the kids finally MOVED on. What a relief!
My transaction was done in seconds, someone had already come by and scanned in my stuff.
A few steps ahead to the door.... and who is THIS??? Noooo!!!! Noooooo!!!!
Lady with all the kids was STALLED AGAIN at the door, looking for her receipts for the door agent. Could anyone else in the WORLD waste more time unnecessarily?
I FINALLY got out the door, and tried not to run them all down with my cart. I considered it, though.
TTFN and have a nice Friday!

Day 1689 - Yay! Friday Eve!
Greetings, Bloggy Pumpkin Pickers!
Do you remember this darling little Savi of two years ago? I love this photo!
Are you craving pumpkin seeds yet?
I like pumpkin seeds that have been baked in the oven with some butter and salt (or nowadays it would likely be butter Pam and salt).
I wasn't really planning to buy a pumpkin this year.... but now that I think about it - why not? I'm in the mood to carve a jack-o-lantern and bake a batch of pumpkin seeds.
Keep commenting on your new grandson, Nancy! We want to hear all the ooohs and aaaahs!
TTFN and have a nice Thursday.

Sorry, folks -
I didn't write the blog last night (I was bundled up in a blankie reading), and don't have time this morning either.
TTFN and have a nice midweek!

Day 1687 - Happy Birthday, Charlie!!
Greetings, Bloggy Birthday Well Wishers -
It's Charlie's birthday today! Happy Birthday, Charlie!
We already have had his birthday dinner - prime rib and coconut shrimp at the Outback restaurant.
It was absolutely delicious, but I probably gained a pound from that ONE meal. Not fair.
Tonight he gets his cards and presents.
Everyone say 'Happy Birthday', and many more where that came from! TTFN!

Day whatever - It's Monday, and I'm Chillin'!
Greetings, Bloggy Frost Heaves!
Remember the long, cold winter of 2010? (You know, the one that occurred before the catastrophic, flooding spring and the brutally hot summer?)
Well, I think we might have another cold one coming up.
It's only October 4th, and we had a FROST WARNING last night!
I don't think it got over 60 at our house all day yesterday.
I switched from a long sleeved shirt to a long sleeved sweater, and I was still chilly.
Hey - does this frost make my new pierced ears look sparkly?
TTFN and have a nice Monday!

Day 1685 - Holey Moley!
Greetings, Blogregation!
This is not the most flattering picture of me, but what I am trying to do is SHOW YOU MY NEW, PIERCED EARS!
You can also check out my totally curly hair as well.
After xxx (content deleted) years, I now am the proud owner of pierced ears and wearer of REAL earrings, NOT CLIP-ONS. Whoa!
I had it done at Walmart (yes, Walmart), and I got the piercing, the stud earrings and a cleaning kit for a whopping $16.98.
It only hurt for a second, and I am diligently turning my faux diamonds every now and then like a good, pierced ear recipient should.
Okay, family and friends - think of this as Christmas draws near. I'm going to have these posts in for at least 6 weeks, then I'll be hoping for some additional earrings coming my way!
TTFN and have a great, holey Sunday!

Day 1684 - It is time for P.S.D.S?
Greetings, Bloggy Weekenders!
Well - today might be THE day I get my ears pierced. I was actually going to have it done yesterday, but I was too busy on a work day.
After over FIVE DECADES being UNpierced, I might just rectify that situation, therefore making gift giving easy for my family from now on.
The 'P.S.D.S' reference is something I heard on the radio once.
The deejay asked for callers to phone in what they got for Christmas.
A caller said 'P.S.D.S.'
The deejay said 'I don't know what that means, what does that stand for?'
The girl said (in a very thick accent) 'Ya know - Pierced Ears! P.S.D.S!' She thought she was saying 'Pierced Ears'.
Everyone listening, including the deejay thought she was saying P.S.D.S.
Wish me luck, and TTFN!
