Day 2199 - Happy Leap Day!
Greetings, Bloggy Leapers!
It's February 29th, also known as 'Leap Day' in the Gregorian calendar. I think we should all get a holiday, since they are few and far between.
Singer Dinah Shore was a Leap Baby as well as Bandleader Jimmy Dorsey. There is even a Serial Killer who was born on Leap Day, but I will not name him because they don't deserve publicity.
There is a movie about an Irish tradition that women can propose to men on Leap Day, and the man must accept or pay a penalty. The movie is from 2010, and called 'Leap Year'. It's cute, I've seen it...
Leap Day is also St Oswald’s Day, named after an archbishop of York who died on February 29, 992. The memorial is celebrated on February 29 during Leap Years and on February 28 during common years.
Have a Happy Leap Day! There won't be another one for 4 more years.

Day 2198 - Leap Eve?
Greetings, Bloggy Look-Before-You-Leap Years!
Yes, it is Leap Eve - normally the last day of February except when it's a Leap Year. We get to postpone paying bills for one more day.
I worked from home yesterday because I had some kind of stomach bug that seems to have come and gone.
Speaking of bills - nobody from the store called today to schedule the arrival of the dishwasher. Hopefully we'll know more tomorrow.
Charlie bought a new dish drainer today and a big squeeze bottle of manual dishwashing liquid. Our lovely new drainer is white, and much nicer than the old wire basket we were using that I dug out of the closet.
TTFN and have a nice Tuesday!

Day 2197 - Washy, Washy, Washy...
Greetings, Bloggy Appliance Lovers!
If you recall, our dishwasher has been struggling along for months.
One piece of it melted. Charlie got it put back together.
Then another whole piece - the sprayer for the top shelf - fell off. Charlie glued the top sprayer back on. This happened several times.
On Saturday it broke again, this time for good. We have ordered a new one, I'll let you know when it arrives and is installed.
Charlie has been doing all the dishes by hand. We don't even have a real dish drainer - I found a wire basket in the closet we are using instead.
Thank you, Charlie!

Day 2196 - You are the Wind Beneath my...Gas Pump?
Greetings, Blogregation!
We've had some really windy days lately, and I know that windstorm headed to the Northeast after it blew through Tennessee.
I discovered yesterday that the coldest spot on earth - where the wind blows non-stop is AT THE GAS PUMP.
Do you get back into the car while your gas is dispensing? I don't, I'm too afraid it won't shut off.
That means I stand there freezing to death, getting buffeted by the wind until my fill up is done.
Hence blog topic for Day 2196!

Day 2195 - The Weekend is HERE!
Greetings, Bloggy Weekenders!
Charlie's daughter took this picture of jellyfish - isn't it AWESOME?
I'd like to have a giant sized version, framed, on the wall.
I have water aerobics this morning, then I'm off to the hair salon for another hair trim.
Chief complaint - gas prices are going up, have you noticed?
TTFN and have a great Saturday!

Day 2194 - Friday is HERE...
Greetings, Bloggy TGIFers-
It's Friday, Hooray! You know what to do, march in a circle chanting 'Fri-day! Fri-day! Fri-day!'
Before I forget, I have a quick funny to tell about the health club.
A little girl was in the locker room with her mother. She asked 'Mommy - which one is OUR CLOSET?' (meaning a locker). She referred to the locker as 'The Closet' the entire time she was in there. Very cute.
Today is the beginning of the last weekend in February - can you believe it? Remember this is a leap year, and there will be a February 29th this year. Come on, March! Come on, spring!
TTFN and have a great Final February Weekend!

Day 2193 - Do You Wanna Hear a Secret? It's a Soup Secret!
Greetings, Bloggy Campbells Lovers!
I made homemade soup this past weekend, and it was absolutely WONDERFUL.
I firmly believe the reason it was especially good was the can of Fat Free Refried beans I stirred in right at the beginning.
For the stock, I used a spoonful of chicken soup base, some water, minced garlic, a can of diced tomatoes, and the can of refried beans.
Having the beans in the stock (yes, they dissolved completely) made a really rich and thick broth, no flour was needed to thicken it later on.
Give it a try and let me know what you think! Trust me, it was GREAT.

Day 2192 - The Case of the Multiplying Appointments...
Greetings, Bloggy Planners!
First - my apologies for not mentioning that yesterday was Fat Tuesday. That means today is Ash Wednesday.
Years ago, I remember thinking that the girls at school who arrived with ashes on their foreheads were very exotic and cool looking.
Changing subjects - I want to tell about Charlie's recent visit to the doctor. All is well, and Charlie's doctor said these exact words- 'You're doing great!'
I guess in order to PROVE that he is doing great, he now has several MORE visits with several MORE doctors.
I wonder what would have happened if he wasn't doing so well?

Day 2191 - The Check's in the Mail...Almost...
Greetings, Bloggy Auditors!
I had my tax return all done. Charlie checked it, and I had made a mistake. Thank you, Charlie!
Then I copied it over from pencil to pen.
Charlie made me a copy of it for reference. Thank you, Charlie!
I took it to work today, intending to mail it.
Charlie texted me at work 'You need to fill out another form'! Crap. Drat. Darn.
I am even mad that I wasted a 44 cent STAMP. I am like that.
NEXT YEAR I am going to get it right the very first time. MAYBE I'll get it in the mail today IF I don't have to make a phone call or gather additional information.
Wish me luck! TTFN!

Day 2190 - Happy Birthday, Baby Girl!
Greetings, Bloggy Birthday Celebrants...
Today is my daughter's birthday, also known as 'The Baby Girl'.
Happy Birthday to yoooooou,
Happy Birthday to yoooooou,
Happy Birthday dear Heather,
Happy Birthday to yooooooo!
Of course now the baby girl has her very own Baby Girl, isn't this the cutest picture of them both?
Gush Gush Gush.
I sent her the three book set of 'The Hunger Games', which she has been reading every spare minute this long holiday weekend.
Okay, I admit that I read the books first before I mailed them. Confession over.

Day 2189 - It's Amazing!
Greetings, Bloggy Racers...
What do YOU watch on television these days?
The Amazing Race starts up again tonight, and I am already hoping we will like the team that wins. Sometimes we do, sometimes we don't.
I haven't mentioned it, but another season of Survivor is underway and I OFTEN don't like who wins. At least none of the 'Russell' family is on the show this season.
We also watch 'The Walking Dead' - a zombie series, not great, but not bad either.
We LOVE our DVR - we can record whatever we want to watch, and watch it later or rewatch if Charlie is home and I'm not.
We're meeting Buddy Joe for lunch today - TTFN and happy racing!

Day 2188 - Out of the Mouths of Second Graders!
Greetings, Bloggy Weekenders!
I've been meaning to tell about the conversation I heard from a second-graders perspective...
I was at the dentist, in the waiting room. Miss Second Grader was waiting with her grandma for grandpa to finish with the dentist.
The receptionist got things rolling with 'How was your day at school?'
Miss Second Grader launched into a rant about 'Boys! Boys! Boys!', how they are just WILD and they BUMP into her.
Then the receptionist asked 'Who is your teacher this year'?
Miss Second Grader answered. The receptionist said 'Oh, I know her! She's Nice!' Miss Second Grader said 'I like her - but not this year.'
She explained that her teacher 'Makes faces like this... (she rolled her eyes and blew out an exasperated breath)' because of THOSE BOYS, etc. etc. etc.
It was great, and made everyone in the waiting room smile.

Day 2187 - Happy Birthday, Sister!
Greetings, Bloggy Birthday Celebrants,
Today is my sister Lyn's birthday. Let's all sing!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOOOOOU,
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOOOOOU,
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DEAR LYN,
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOOOOOU!
I mailed a card but I'll bring her a SUPER FABULOUS SPECIAL PRESENT in March when I see her.
That's just to get her thinking about what it might be...
By the way - that's probably my foot to the left of her in the photo.

Day 2186 - When You're a Jet You're a Jet...
Greetings, Bloggy Pizza Lovers!
That's right - I was talking about Jet's Pizza, not the play 'West Side Story'.
We are having a marathon meeting at work today that will last through lunchtime, so we're getting pizza delivery from Jet's Pizza.
I can't keep up nowadays with all the pizza choices - are you like that?
Pizza used to come in two forms - round or square. Now you can have round, square, stuffed, thick crust, thin crust, garlic crust, stuffed crust, lite options, and a bunch that I've probably forgotten.
I like square pizza well-done with crispy edges. I used to like very doughy pizza but over time (and calorically) I have learned to like thinner crust too.
TTFN and I hope you enjoy YOUR lunch today!

Day 2185 - Bloggage or Blockage
Greetings, Bloggy Blockers!
The Surgeon Generals Warning...
Exceeding 2185 days of Bloggage may result in a blockage.
Oh NO! Maybe it's today!?
OMIGOSH - I don't have anything to say.
OMIGOSH - I won't have a blog.
OMIGOSH - My blogging voice will be silenced.
OMIGOSH - My six year run will come to an end.
NOT! You can't get rid of me so easily, because even NOT blogging becomes a blog. So there.

Day 2184 - Happy Valentines Day!
Greetings, Bloggy Dearests-
I guess I can brag a little, because my Valentines Day is actually a week long celebration!
Thank you, Charlie! xxxooo
We've already been out to eat prime rib, and I have flowers, and today we'll exchange Valentines cards.
But you know what a REAL Valentine is?
Someone who listens to you tell stupid stories in the middle of the night.
Someone who takes care of you when you're sick.
Someone who loves you when you look terrible, or when you're grumpy, or when you're miserable.
If you have a Valentine like THAT - you're really lucky!
PS - I do!

Day 2183 - Oyez! Oyez! Oyez!
Greetings, Bloggy Proclamationisms!
Oyez! Oyez! Oyez!
Be it known that this NATIONAL CRY is being proclaimed throughout the United States by a coveyance known as 'Da Blog', at the fifth hour, on the thirteenth day of the month of February, in this year of our Lord, two thousand and twelve.
Therefore give heed and take note that this day sees the Launch of the campaign to bid the people of this land to elect ME as the Queen of Bloggage! (queen wave here)
The campaign is to persuade people of all ages, from all parts of this beautiful land, to support your bloggers by READING more to promote literacy and watching less television.
For my part, if elected, I will strive unceasingly to prevent any more of those horrid PIG SQUEALING commercials from being shown, at any time, at any venue.
As Town Crier for this fair blog, I call upon all persons visiting to hear this.
The End

Day 2182 - What IS that stuff??
Greetings, Bloggy Bacteriums!
Someone please tell me WHY mustard (and even some ketchups) ooze scary, gross liquid whenever you want to USE them?
I take that as a personal insult.
And would someone please tell me why SPAM has to be surrounded by that gelatinous goo? I actually like fried SPAM, spam 'n egg salad, etc, but NOT the scary gelatin.
I would suggest they could try packing SPAM in water like tunafish.
And last but not least - WHY can't I happily eat things like squash soup and creamed spinach (which both taste good) without being skeeved out by their color?
I guess maybe I'M the PROBLEM. (NOT!)

Day 2181 - Ahhh Weekend-
Greetings, Bloggy Weekenders!
Well, I just lost everything I wrote because Blogger logged me out for no reason.
I guess that's the topic of the blog - when unexpected things happen with stuff you use every day.
Sometimes when I'm in email my arrow keys stop working.
Sometimes my computer just freezes, but usually resumes what I was doing after it 'thinks' for a period of time.

Day 2180 - On Rats Nests and PJs...
Greetings, Snarlers and Sleepers!
Little kids are often cute.
Little kids are often funny.
Little kids are often STUBBORN.
Just this week at the pool, I observed the following two children:
One little boy came in wearing thermal pajamas. You KNOW that his mother didn't WANT him to wear thermal pajamas to the POOL.
One little blonde girl had such a rats nest on her head her mother must not be able to brush her hair EVER. She was scowling the whole time too.
Another story is several years old, but still funny.
My friend's little boy had a tantrum because he wanted to wear his spiderman underoos underwear on the OUTSIDE of his clothes, and wanted it to be visible at all times.
I'll give that a try someday... Ha!

Day 2179 - I've Gotta Be ME, I've Gotta Be THREE...
Greetings, Bloggy Grownups!
It's been a while since I posted a picture of my granddaughter, Savannah.
Here's a cute one I stole from Facebook. My daughter keeps us all laughing, telling about their days and her antics.
She is three, but rapidly approaching FOUR (Egad!). I thought how nice it would be to be three years old again. A few examples follow:
I would watch the same movie OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER again.
I would sing the same little songs OVER and OVER and OVER again.
I would pretend I was a princess sometimes, and believe it the rest of the time.
I would live for ice cream and chocolate (not that I don't do that NOW)
I would play Candyland and Chutes and Ladders.
My mother would let me cheat at CandyLand and think it's cute.
I think you get the picture! Three is the age to be!

Day 2178 - Will Work for Animal Crackers and Cocoa...
Greetings, Bloggy Munchkinlanders!
My mother requested that I tell about my brief run as the Star of the Stage.
In SECOND GRADE, yours truly played Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz play at school.
At that time, (being 7?) it was one of the highlights of my life. I was in the newspaper and everything.
Yes, I had to sing in front of people, something that I didn't care for then and still don't care for now.
However, if I don't HAVE an audience, I sing a lot. Badly...
Uh - but NOT 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow'!
Tuesday, February 07, 2012
Day 2177 - Heart and Soul...
Greetings, Bloggy Aspiring Pianists!
When we were kids, the two songs EVERYBODY(even 10-thumb ME) knew on the piano were 'Chopsticks', and 'Heart and Soul'.
Did you ever really listen to the SONG, 'Heart and Soul', or know the lyrics?
I just received a 2-CD music set that I ordered from Amazon.com. It's called 'They're Playing Our Song - Volume 4', and one of them is 'Heart and Soul', sung by Mel Torme'.
If you don't know by now, I just love 40's and 50's music, and some later and some EARLIER. Heart and Soul is actually from 1938 - did you know that?
And speaking of Mel Torme', here's another trivia tidbit. The song named 'The Christmas Song' that begins 'Chestnuts roasting on an open fire, Jack Frost nipping at your nose' was WRITTEN by Mel Torme'. He actually had a very nice singing voice too.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Day 2176 - How to Cool Off Quickly...
Greetings, Monday Morning Blahgers!
First - Congratulations to the Winning Superbowl Team, and no, I didn't win anything in the football pool. Drat!
I'm one of those people who have the OPPOSITE of good luck with numbers, I will choose everything EXCEPT the winning number. Sheesh.
Some people at work were planning to take today off, because they knew they'd be up late, etc. (there are too many etc variables to list!)
But I digress - I really did have a story to tell this morning, hence the photo.
Maybe 8 or 9 women were in the pool at the Thursday water aerobics class. A man, fully attired in gym clothes, socks and shoes walked into the pool area. He walked down the side of the pool to the approximate middle of the pool.
He kneeled down, dunked his ENTIRE HEAD underwater for just a second or two, then pulled his head out of the water again. He dripped there for a second, then stood up, flipped his hair back, and stalked out again, not making eye contact with anyone.
Myself and the other women were busy trying to figure out WHAT that was all about. Charlie explained to me that he was probably overheated and wanted to cool down QUICK.
I'll buy that, but haven't ever seen someone do that before!

Day 2175 - Superbowl Sunday
Greetings, Bloggy Patriots and Giants Fans!
First- a very Happy Birthday Shout Out to our friend TY, you know who you are!
Are you ready to watch the Superbowl, or at least see if they come up with some awesome commercials?
And what is everyone going to do today BEFORE gametime? I really wish it would start earlier, by five o clock I'll probably be ready for a NAP.
I bought a couple of squares in a Superbowl football pool - is that legal to say on the blog? I need to pay attention to the score each quarter to see if I won any money. Fingers crossed, and you can root for ME to win if you want to...
Most of my family will be rooting for the Patriots, but there are a LOT of New Englanders who are Giants fans.
I went to a Giants playoff game myself in 1990 - the year that the Giants were in the Championships against the 49ers, and they knocked out Joe Montana. If I remember correctly, the Giants scored 49 points against the 49ers...
Have fun everyone, and Go Whoever-you-want-to-win!

Day 2174 - Come on! Once Every SEVENTEEN YEARS?
Greetings, Bloggy Weekenders!
Charlie and I went to the health club yesterday afternoon to work out, then we went out to dinner.
We went to a restaurant in Franklin called the Chop House.
WE HAVEN'T BEEN TO THE CHOP HOUSE IN SEVENTEEN YEARS!!!
We went there once when they opened in 1995, and again today.
I promise it won't be seventeen years till we go there again - our dinner was DELICIOUS.
We both ordered the same thing - fresh shrimp and crawfish tails in cajun cream sauce over red beans and rice for $13.99. ABSOLUTELY delicious...
I even brought some home. Wonder if it would be good over eggs?
Friday, February 03, 2012
Day 2173 - What!? Is it FRIDAY!!?
Greetings, Bloggy TGIFers!
It's Friday, Hooray!
You know what to do, march in a circle chanting 'Fri-day! Fri-day! Fri-day!'
I'm all worn out (NOT!), worrying about Punxsutawney Phil seeing his shadow. That means 6 more weeks of winter.
Considering we haven't really HAD any winter weather to speak of, it may mean that winter is just around the corner.
Fingers crossed that it won't happen, and we'll have a nice early spring.
Thursday, February 02, 2012
Day 2172 - Are You Old Enough?
Greetings, Bloggy Flashbackers!
Are YOU old enough to remember five and tens? They were inexpensive stores where you could get a lot of merchandise for a little bit of money.
Other names for five and tens were five and dimes, nickel and dimes, and dimestores.
Five and Ten Cent stores were still around when I was young, and are now referred to as variety or dollar stores, because NOBODY CAN SELL ANYTHING ANYMORE FOR A NICKEL OR A DIME!
Even the penny candy is a thing of the past, but that's another blog...
Originating with Woolworth (remember them?) stores in the late 1800's, some of the leaders of those concepts became Kmart and Walmart in business today (uh - I'm not sure Kmart falls in that category, I never go in there).
I remember Woolworth, Grants and McLellans off the top of my head, and there were lots of others.
Thanks for the 'nickel tour' down memory lane!

Day 2171 - Hello, February...
Greetings, Bloggy February Fans!
February isn't a bad month IF it isn't a blizzard sort of winter.
EVERYONE thinks that Mother Nature is going to try to even up the winter weather score...
Speaking of score - February also has the Superbowl. That's always fun (even if the game isn't so great). It's a great time to EAT A LOT.
February has VALENTINES DAY - yet another reason for dining out and giving gifts. One year I bought 'kid style' Lord of the Rings Valentines for the folks at work. They loved 'em.
Some FAMILY MEMBERS were born in February. I'm already gathering up some goodies to send out for those birthdays.
And last but not least - IF I get my ducks in a row I can file my taxes in February. Joy of joys!
