Day 2170 - Bye Bye, January...
Greetings, Bloggy February Fans!
Yes. It's True.
Today is the last day of January - the winter (if you can call it that) is flying by.
We are going to celebrate the last day of January with a BEAUTIFUL DAY, temps in the SIXTIES. That is my kind of winter, all right.
I can't help but think that Mother Nature is plotting an onslaught of bad weather, maybe in February, maybe in March. I'm not a psychic, so I can't say for sure.
Time to pay bills and turn calendars YET AGAIN! So long, January!

Day 2169 - It Don't Mean a Thing if it Ain't Got That BLING...
Greetings, Monday Morning Blah-gers!
Yep, it's Monday and the start of another work week.
Rise and Shine, be it physically or just by wearing sparkly bling-age.
You may know that I attended a jewelry party on Saturday - similar to a Pampered Chef party but more like a Pampered Diva party.
After the party I came to the realization that I am woefully 'under-blinged', meaning I don't wear enough jewelry to be properly attired when leaving the shelter of my home.
The appropriate ratio of ONE female to 'X' number of accessories is a whopping 6-11 items. Let me list some of the accessories...
Earrings (only count as one no matter how many you are wearing).
Rings (only one finger or toe can be counted at a time no matter how many rings you are wearing on that appendage).
A watch, glasses, necklaces, bracelets, etc.
I arrived at the party accessorized with ONE ring and ONE pair of earrings. That's all. I'm a blingin' failure...
Guess I should never be seen in public again. Oops.

Day 2168 - Gimme Back My FORMS!
Greetings, Blogregation-
I am all for reducing government waste.
I am all for reducing the amount of paper out there and saving some trees. I love trees.
But someone please tell me WHY they need to discontinue the USEFUL, HELPFUL STUFF?
I WANT MY INCOME TAX FORMS DELIVERED TO ME WITH MY NAME ON THEM AND AN INSTRUCTION BOOKLET AND AN ENVELOPE.
I'll go drive all over the place looking for the bloody income tax forms I need, or use my own bloody paper downloading and printing them.
It also is a real bummer (this might be news to some people) that the Social Security Administration is no longer sending out Social Security projection statements each year to WORKING AMERICANS. YOU CAN'T EVEN REQUEST ONE- you just have to use their website estimator.
I WANT MY SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFIT ESTIMATE DELIVERED TO ME WITH MY NAME ON IT AND MY SPECIFIC INFORMATION ON IT CALCULATED JUST FOR ME.
There. I feel better now.

Day 2167 - No Time For Bloggage!
Greetings, Bloggy Weekenders -
Running kind of late today so I'm just going to say this -
I SAW DAFFODILS BLOOMING YESTERDAY AND IT'S STILL JANUARY.
This warm winter is awesome but it sure is fooling Mother Nature!
TTFN and have a nice weekend.

Day 2166 - Move Along, Move Along!
Greetings, Bloggy Big Drippers-
It's Friday, Hooray!
You know what to do - march in a circle chanting 'Fri-day! Fri-day! Fri-day!'
I have a funny story from yesterday's visit to the health club.
After my water aerobics class, I always take a shower to rinse off the chlorine and get it out of my hair.
I overheard a mother teaching her daughter how to use the shower.
She patiently explained how to turn the water on, wait for the warm water, and adjust the temperature.
Then she suggested wetting the back of her hair first, then the front.
I almost laughed out loud when I heard her say 'You can't stand there an hour like you do at home, you have to MOVE ALONG!'
You know, if I were paying that child's water bill, I'd move her along at HOME and let her shower as long as she wanted to at the health club!

Day 2165 - Cowboys & Aliens...
Greetings, Bloggy Ropem and Ridems!
We watched Harrison Ford (who was Indiana Jones) and Daniel Craig (who was James Bond) in 'Cowboys & Aliens' the other night.
We got it from Netflix - and while we didn't love the movie, we didn't hate it either. It was amusing, though not Ford or Craigs best work!
We gave it a 3 out of 5, and IMDB rates it 6.2 out of 10. Dead even if you ask me.
A 'bad boy' cowboy awakens and can't remember where or who he is. He wanders into a town where he is recognized as a wanted man, and taken prisoner.
Meanwhile, aliens are attacking, and the cowboy just happens to have a sophisticated electronic weapon attached to his wrist.
You can figure out the rest...
TTFN and Yippee Ti-Yi-Yo!

Day 2164 - I Want to Find a Rare and Priceless Artifact Too!
Greetings, Bloggy Readers-
I am reading 'The Last Templar' - a 2005 novel that stayed on the best seller list for TWENTY-TWO months.
The story begins with a historic showing of priceless, religious artifacts at a museum. Four horsemen dressed as Knights Templar storm the Metropolitan Museum and steal a medieval artifact. An FBI agent and an archaeologist are plunged into a race across three continents in search of the relic and its hidden secrets.
Yes, I know. This is 2012 - what took me so long?
They even made a 2 night miniseries from it in 2009, but I don't remember watching it. Maybe Netflix has it...
Anyway - it's been entertaining, and I just found out there was a sequel released in 2010. Maybe I'll read that too.

Day 2163 - Do You Swai? Swai Not?
Greetings, Bloggy Fishmongers!
Charlie and I tried 'Swai' fish for the first time the other night.
Bottom line - Swai is thumbs up, and we'll definitely have it again. The lady at the fish counter said she eats swai now instead of catfish.
Swai is somewhat similar to catfish, meaning a mild, flaky white fish. I noticed they have a thinner filet, a nice white-pinkish color and a texture between catfish and tilapia. It also didn't have a 'bottom dweller' flavor that catfish sometimes has, even when it's fresh.
Swai are native to Southeast Asia - Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia.
Swai are INEXPENSIVE - I paid $4.99/lb and it wasn't even a sale price!
In other words - Swai are Swell. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Day 2162 - Along the Milky Way...
Greetings, Bloggy Breakfasters!
I really do like milk, but I don't usually drink more than a cup a day - mostly in the form of frothed milk in my coffee.
I NEVER drink the sugary milk in the bottom of the cereal bowl, and I never have - even as a kid. I think that's gross.
It's hard to even know what kind of milk to buy nowadays - there's dry milk, regular milk, 1%, 1.5%, 2%, lactose free, soy milk, rice milk, almond milk, and organic too!
But here's my question...
Has anyone ever tried goat milk, and if so - does it taste like cows milk?

Day 2161 - Let'em Eat Steak - Or Apples for the Same Price!
Greetings, Blogregation!
You can have your steak and eat it too - but not if you are buying Honeycrisp Apples along with it!
Honeycrisp Apples average THREE DOLLARS A POUND at most of the grocery stores, and other varieties are pretty bloody expensive too.
What is UP with THAT? Apples cost as much as ham steak or pork tenderloin!
Are they feeding the apple trees marigold petals? Are they keeping electric lights on 24 hours a day to make them grow faster? No - it's an APPLE. Apples grow on TREES.
As I said - WHAT IS UP WITH THAT?
I lucked into a sale at Trader Joes that had them for 99 cents per pound, and they sold out in a few days.
Okay, I'm done now. Have a nice, fruitful day...

Day 2160 - Flick and Swish and Flick and Swish!
Greetings, Bloggy Ollivander Fans!
Here is a photo of my wands - and I am not kidding!
These are handmade, one of a kind, Ollivander style wands. They are made by the son in law of one of my water aerobics buddies.
However, they were unable to tell me when I purchased them whether there was a unicorn hair or phoenix feather inside them.
Someday I hope to x-ray them to know for sure.
The fancier one with the swirls is so striking I HAD to purchase it, but the other is better for every-day spellmaking.
I purchased three of them, but one was for a gift. The recipient could have chosen one of the others, but she agreed with me that the other one was perfect for her.
A young girl was also trying wands out at the same time. I closed my eyes and said 'Okay, you can practice on me but be sure to change me back afterwards!'
AREN'T YOU JEALOUS??? I would be if it wasn't ME who owned them!

Day 2159 - I double DUH dare ya!
Greetings, Bloggy Brain-Cell Challenged!
Me and my friend at work take turns consoling each other about our brain freezes.
We say that TOGETHER we make ONE darn good brain. Ha!
Case in point...
Yesterday's blog was something I forgot the day before. *sigh*
I send myself reminders in email. Do you do that? *sigh*
I think up all these great blog ideas and forget them before I get home. *sigh*
There. That's all the forgetfulness I can remember...HA!

Day 2158 - Elder-Wear!
Greetings, Bloggy Bucket-Listers!
I forgot to tell one story about my excellent visit to the retirement community.
Some of the residents need 'semi-supervision'. They have wrist or anklet monitors that cause an alarm to sound if they leave a programmed-in range. I may very well be wearing one someday - though I hope not!
Staff have codes at the elevators to disable the alarm if they need to transport a patient to exercise or health appointments.
I was in the elevator with one such resident, who showed me her bracelet and explained it's purpose (kind of). I quipped 'I know what that is for! You're on parole, aren't you?'
The other residents in the elevator really enjoyed that...

Day 2157 - Midweek and SENIOR Life?
Greetings, Bloggy Aspiring Seniors!
I've been thinking...
I might want to move into a retirement community NOW before I'm old. It might be better to go voluntarily.
I’d be the youngest resident, so immediately I would be everyone's baby sister.
I would enjoy the super-low food prices in the cafeteria and never need to cook.
There would be a beauty shop on site to take care of my hair and nails.
I could be shuttled around whenever I need to go - to the doctor, dentist, grocery shopping, or the mall.
I could enjoy laundry services, have my sheets changed twice a week, and bask in the hot tub at the fitness center whenever I want to.
It doesn't sound too bad, does it?

Day 2156 - Watching the World Go By...
Greetings, Bloggy Twofer Tuesdayers!
Monday is over, and it's back to work for everyone who had yesterday off (like ME).
My friend works at a retirement community, and I spent my day off yesterday visiting the residents there. I also heard a cute story...
On each floor, outside the elevators, there is a wide swath of windows with long window seats (a.k.a. benches) from end to end.
The residents congregate there to get 'out of the house', chat, visit, and watch all the comings and goings of the community at large.
There are three ladies who often meet and sit together so they can comment on whatever is happening in the complex.
My friend noticed all three of them the other day, sitting together, BFF's forever, and all three of them were FAST ASLEEP!
And now you've heard the REST of the story - get it? REST? A.K.A SLEEP???
Monday, January 16, 2012
Day 2155 - Cry Uncle!
Greetings, Bloggy MLK day Celebrants-
Do you have today off?
I do! Hooray!
As you recall, yesterday was my birthday - we won't guesstimate which one.
I could NOT have been more surprised when I got a birthday phone call from an uncle who I haven't seen for maybe 15 years, and before that maybe 15 more.
He actually lived with us for a period of time when I was an obnoxious teenager and he was an obnoxious adult. As you can imagine - we got along back then by taking turns picking on each other.
Bottom line - after so many years, hearing his voice and chit-chatting with him again was a lovely, warm moment for me. I'm still kind of in shock about it.
Time heals all wounds - and maybe old aggravations!?
Sunday, January 15, 2012
Day 2154 - X's and O's...
Greetings, Bloggy Hugs and Kisses!
I thought EVERYONE knew what the X's and O's meant on the bottom of letters, candies, etc.
I was in a meeting last week at work - and people had MIXED OPINIONS about whether the X's were the kisses or the hugs! What???
Again, I thought EVERYBODY knew automatically that the kisses were the X's and the hugs are the O's!
Ah well - for the record, and I repeat, the X's are the kisses and the O's are the hugs. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
Saturday, January 14, 2012
Day 2153 - It's SOMEBODY's birthday!
Since it's SOMEBODY's birthday - I don't have to blog today.
TTFN and have a great Saturday!

Day 2152 - Friday and Snow!
Greetings, Bloggy Snowbunnies-
It's Friday, Hooray!
You know what to do - march in a circle chanting 'Fri-day! Fri-day! Fri-day!'
Well - this winter has been a dud so far IF you're measuring winter in terms of snowfall.
But I will say that we got flurries yesterday, and even a little coating on some of the cars and grassy areas.
No - this is not my picture, I just think snow is really pretty if you look at it falling at night in the streetlights or car headlights.
It is BITTERLY cold though - starting the day in the TEENS. That's pretty bloody cold, South or North.
TTFN and have a great weekend!

Day 2151 - The Mysterious Case of the Exploding BUNS!
Greetings, Bustin' Out All Overs!
I opened the fridge yesterday morning, and a can of refrigerated cinammon rolls (no, they were not the Pillsbury brand) had popped open VIGOROUSLY.
The tubular 'roll' package was in three pieces, and the packet of icing was in one place and the cinnamon buns were scattered here and there!
I'm telling you - there's no explosion like a BUN explosion.
No, I didn't try to salvage any of them - they must have been yearning for an escape, but their mutiny BACKFIRED! HA!

Day 2150 - Midweek and Midlife
Greetings, Bloggy Middlers!
Do you recognize the photo?
Hint - what day is it? It's WEDNESDAY from the Addams family TV show. (No, not the movie)
Do you know what Wednesday's MIDDLE name was? It was FRIDAY!
I used to watch that show in the 60's - and also the Munsters, which I think was on around the same time.
There was a character on the Addams family named 'Thing' - and it was a hand that would reach up out of boxes and grab things.
My grandmother used to have an Addams Family battery powered piggy bank. It was a black box.
You would put a coin on the top and the Thing would reach out and grab it and pull it into the bank! We loved it.
I'll bet that bank would go for a lot of money nowadays. I think I'll look for it on eBay...
OMIGOSH! There is one for $60, and one for $125! Jeepers Creepers.

Day 2149 - Source Code... the Movie...
Greetings, Bloggy Movie-Watchers!
Despite the big Netflix billing scandal, we still have a Netflix subscription.
On Sunday, we watched a 2011 movie that we missed in the theatres, a sci-fi action movie called 'Source Code'.
IMDB.com (the internet movie database) gives it a 7.5 out of 10 rating, which is very good. We liked it, and agree with the rating.
From IMDB: An action thriller centered on a soldier who wakes up in the body of an unknown man and discovers he's part of a mission to find the bomber of a Chicago commuter train.
Check it out - it is a fun flick...

Day 2148 - Dino and Jerry...
Greetings, Monday Morning Blahgers!
I really LOVE Dean Martins voice, and it is a darn shame that a lot of people nowadays haven't heard anything but his Christmas music.
I now own about 75 of his songs (though some are duplicates across several albums), and there are very few I don't like.
But that's only part of the topic of the blog today. I have a song called 'The Money Song', which is a duet with Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis.
OMIGOSH - a young Jerry Lewis sounds just like Adam Sandler, and I mean JUST LIKE.
IF you an Adam Sandler fan - try listening to some OLD Jerry Lewis on YouTube.
TTFN and have a nice Monday!

Day 2147 - Too Close for Comfort!
Greetings, Bloggy Football Lovers!
If you have been watching all the College Bowl games, and playoff games, you probably know who Tom Hammond is.
He is a very good play by play announcer for NBC.
I have a problem with whoever does his MAKEUP!
I told Charlie yesterday that his makeup was too thick - after all, he was LIVING at the time! This photo doesn't do it justice.
The only comparison I can make is Liberace, and of course... that is frightening.
TTFN and beware of the pancake makeup bandit!

Day 2146 - It's TIME...
Greetings, Bloggy Weekenders!
Yes, I'm going to do it.
I'm going to take the tree down...
BOO HOO!
I'll make that project last all weekend though, I am just going to start today.
TTFN and NEXT Christmas is getting closer every day!
Friday, January 06, 2012
Day 2145 - Friday Confessions...
Greetings, Bloggy TGIFers-
It's Friday, Hooray!
You know what to do - march in a circle chanting 'Fri-day! Fri-day! Fri-day!'
Okay - my friday confession is... my stovetop is often dirty but my spoonrests (two of them!) are usually sparkling clean.
What's wrong with this picture?
So - why don't I use my spoonrests when I have TWO of them on the stove?

Day 2144 - Oh Where, Oh Where Has My Stupid Tax Gone...
Greetings, Bloggy Brilliant Ones!
If you're not from the Nashville area, you might not know what 'Stupid Tax' is.
Stupid tax is any stupid mistake you make that costs you money.
It might be buying something cheap that is useless and having to buy another one, or buying too many of something that you can't use, or even paying a bill late (haven't we all done it?) and getting charged a fee for it.
The term 'Stupid Tax' is primarily associated with a financial talk show legend, Dave Ramsey. Charlie even got me a signed copy of his book - 'Financial Peace'.
Anyway - I pay stupid tax too, try as I might to avoid it.
I bought some cheapo burnable CDs recently (and they are Verbatims which should be fine!) and they STINK. I have had to throw away about a third of them, and sometimes even if they will play in my CD player, they won't play somewhere else.
Anyway - I'll have to buy more, and THAT, my friends, is STUPID TAX.

Day 2143 - Gimme Presents or Gimme... Lunch?
Greetings, Bloggy Middlers!
How did it get to be WEDNESDAY already? Wow!
Two weeks in a row with Monday off makes me think I'd like that schedule all year 'round.
But that's not what I meant to blog about today.
My daughter said my granddaughter is already waiting for her birthday (in MARCH) because she's looking forward to more presents.
That made me think 'Why don't I write a blog about presents that can be given ANY day?'
For example - wrap any lunch that could be brown-bagged in a gift bag, and let her open it. You could do the same thing with a set of clothes, just put a complete outfit in a bag and let her 'open' her outfit.
Wrap her snacks (when she can't see), and let her 'draw' her snack out of a bag.
Let HER wrap presents for Mommy or Daddy- you can decide what she is allowed to 'give' back to you.
That's it... OR... wait till the birthday and GRANDMA (that would be me) will bring presents!

Day 2142 - Fortune Smiles on 2012!
Greetings, and Happy 2012, Bloggy Readers-
Have you had a nice New Years so far?
I have!
I opened a fortune cookie on New Years day.
It read 'Everything will now come your way'. How great is THAT?
EVERYTHING will now come my way? EVERYTHING?
Gee whiz - that sounds like a pretty tall order, but...
Fame and Fortune make a nice pair.
The trio of Healthy, Wealthy and Wise might be nice.
But let's think out of the box, since EVERYTHING is going to come my way.
Does that mean an IRS Audit? Jehovahs Witnesses at the door? Bedbugs? The heartbreak of psoriasis?
Maybe I don't want EVERYTHING after all! Ha!

Day 2141 - The New Year Means TAX TIME is Near!
Greetings, Bloggy IRS-ers!
I wrote a little song to celebrate the arrival of tax season.
'Tis Time for Taxation,
And all through the 'Hood,
Not an auditor was stirring,
They're up to no good.
More rapid then eagles the Agents they came,
And they whistled, and shouted, and called them by name.
On Schedule! On Audit! On After Tax Income!
On Penalty! On Payment! Oh, We're Gonna Win Some!
To the top of the Form. To the Top of the Pile.
Now dash away, dash away, 1040-Style!
I made that up. I mean it. I did.

Day 2140 - Happy New Years!
Greetings, Bloggy Baby New Years!
It's my brother in law's birthday today - Happy Birthday, brudda!
I fell asleep TWICE writing this blog, and ended up with two empty blog drafts with a title and nothing else. That's a funny way to start the New Year.
Soooo... What did everyone DO for their New Year's Eve celebration?
TELL US, TELL US, TELL US!
Welcome, 2012! We're all looking forward to a great year.
