Day 2078 - Happy Halloween!

Greetings, Bloggy Trick or Treaters!

Heather - I need a photo of Savi with her costume on - I'm sure you'll be taking pictures. Hope it isn't too cold!

No, I don't dress up for Halloween, and most people don't where I work.

No, I did not buy candy for Halloween, I buy Halloween pretzels (as shown). I love the Halloween pretzels, and so does everyone at work!

No, we really don't get any trick or treaters now that the kids next door have grown older.

When I was a kid, we trick or treated with those pumpkin shaped plastic Halloween buckets, and very occasionally with a PILLOWCASE if we were ranging far and wide. We would collect pennies for UNICEF too - is that still done?

Have a great Halloween, and minimal dental bills afterwards!

Day 2077 - Sweet, Sweet, Sweet...

Greetings, Blogregation!

Look at this DARLING photo of Miss Savi and her friend. Is that SWEET, or what?

Auntie Cheryl and I are having a fun weekend. I'm glad she's here and not in New England with all the SNOW. Eeeek! Maybe I should kidnap her till spring- what do you think?

Cheryl met Buddy Joe yesterday at PumpkinFest in Franklin. It was MOBBED, but we had a nice time.

We may go see that new Hugh Jackman movie today, and do some shoppage. I need to go to the bank though, as I spent too much at PumpkinFest yesterday!

TTFN and I am hoping New England has a lot of MELTAGE before Halloween!

Day 2076 - Second Place Is NOT a Loser!

Greetings, Bloggy Halloweenies!

Here's a picture of Savannah at the Pumpkin Festival in Maine. She had a great time that weekend.

Well, I didn't win the pumpkin carving contest yesterday, but I came in second. That's okay, isn't it? I really don't mind because I won it last year and this year it's someone else's turn to win.

Halloween is almost here, and I heard that it SNOWED in Rhode Island yesterday, and that there may be more snow?! Is that right?

It is very cold here - highs today are expected to be in the 50's. Brrr!

I'll be going to the Franklin Pumpkinfest later today, that should be fun!

Day 2075 - It's Time For Contest #2!

Greetings, Bloggy Contestants!

It's Friday, Hooray! You know what to do, march in a circle chanting 'Fri-day! Pump-kin! Fri-day! Pump-kin'

I just tried to upload a picture of my pumpkin entry for the contest, and Blogger isn't cooperating. Drat! Note as of 6:20am, I tried again and got the picture to load. Yay!

The whole department gets to vote for their favorite pumpkin, so we'll see what happens. The best thing about the contest? It is part of a Halloween fest that includes free pizza and cookies at work.

TTFN and wish me luck!

Day 2074 - It's Almost Pumpkin Time!

Greetings, Bloggy Pumpkin Carvers!

Here's an awesome picture of Savannah carrying a huge pumpkin.

She's strong! That's a mighty big pumpkin for a three year old to carry.

We are having a pumpkin carving contest at work tomorrow, which means I need to carve the pumpkin TONIGHT. Guess I'd better get my mind made up on what I'm carving, dontcha think?

Fingers crossed that I get it done without having to get up early tomorrow.

TTFN and have a nice Thursday!

Day 2073 - Slide into Midweek!

Greetings, Bloggy Slippers and Sliders!

Would you just LOOK at this gigantic slide Savannah was on!

She is a brave little thing, isn't she?

I think I'd be afraid to go on that slide.

We had a team outing yesterday, and for our team activity we went on a 'Franklin on Foot GHOST TOUR' in town! It was really, really fun, and we went out for pizza afterwards.

Hope you have a fun Wednesday! TTFN!

Day 2072 - That's Why The Donkey Is A Tramp...

Greetings, Bloggy Mule Dayers!

Do you remember that we had a stray donkey for a while?

See the bloggy archives for more details. It might help to remind you that he would do just about anything for a bucket of corn.

Anyway - long story short - the donkey was adopted by a woman I work with. She named him Tom, which is short for 'Peeping Tom' when he got loose and brayed in her window!

She told a new story about him yesterday. Evidently Tom has learned to sneak out of his enclosure overnight to eat the shell corn that is being left out for the deer each evening. A trail camera was set out to capture pictures of the deer.

Tom has been sneaking out, eating the corn, and returning where he belonged by morning. However, since they had a trail camera taking pictures, ALL THE PICTURES were of the donkey, NO DEER. If there hadn't been a camera, he wouldn't have been caught.

He's so smart! Go, Tom! Eat that corn!

Day 2071 - I Wanna be a Zombie for Halloween!

Greetings, Monday Morning Walkers!

I've been thinking of auditioning for 'The Walking Dead' show. Have you seen it?

Just your normal post-viral world full of the undead - except for the remaining humans trying NOT to become zombie food.

This season has started off pretty darn good, if you like that kind of thing.

I also read that they are going to make a tv series based on the Zombieland movie. I think that is awesome. If you've seen Zombieland, you know what 'double tap' means, and it has become a pretty common phrase!

So - if I were going to dress up for Halloween, I'd be 'Zombifying' myself for sure! Have a nice week before Halloween!

Day 2070 - Shocking, Simply Shocking...

Greetings, Blogregation!

I have a question.

Am I the only person that constantly gets electric shocks when pushing a shopping cart?

I'm not talking about one zapp of static electricity, I am talking about semi constant mini shocks that are so uncomfortable that I can't keep my hands on the shopping cart handle.

I always wear rubber soled shoes. I do not drag my feet when I walk, either.

What is UP with that?

I did a little research while I was writing the blog, and yes, there are other people who experience this too. One suggestion was to touch the metal doorframe when you enter a store so you can discharge some electricity before touching the cart.

I guess I'll try it. What do YOU think?

Day 2069 - I Won! I Won! I Won!

Greetings, Bloggy Winners!

I won the apple pie bakeoff at work yesterday. Here's a picture. My prize? A gym bag with the company logo on it. One of the other contestants tasted my pie and said 'Yours IS better than mine'. I really appreciated that.

I'll tell you one thing - trying to BAKE at 4:45am is NOT fun!

Aunt Nancy wanted to know the recipe... This assumes you've got the crust ready or purchased crust. I made my own.

2 large Gala apples, cored and peeled and cut in slices.
2 large Granny Smith apples, cored and peeled and cut in slices.

Mix together these dry ingredients, then add the apples and mix well.
3/4 cup of sugar
some cinnamon - not much
just a speck of nutmeg
a few tablespoons of flour (so the pie isn't too runny)
about 1/8 cup of craisins
about 1/8 cup of walnuts, chopped

Line a pie plate with the bottom crust, pour the above into it, dot with butter (I forgot this step), and put on the top crust.

Everyone loved the addition of a few craisins and walnuts, I'd do that again!

Day 2068 - Uh... A little help here??

Greetings, Bloggy Rescuers!

It's Friday, Hooray!

You know what to do, march in a circle chanting 'Fri-day! Fri-day! Fri-day!'

So - here's the deal. I got trapped at my desk yesterday because my earring got tangled in my stereo headphones!

I had to get help from my coworker to rescue me. I guess I could have just taken the earring OUT, then fixed the headphone cord, but I think it was OK to ask for help.

As a matter of fact - I had to ask twice, because for a minute he didn't notice what the problem was! I had to say 'Uh - I'm stuck! I need some help!'

Hoop earrings especially seem to get caught on things. I also catch them on clothing or when I put a towel on my head, etc. Guess I'm still learning about pierced ears, eh?

Ha! I hope you have a safe and fun Friday!

Day 2067 - Contestant Extraordinaire!

Greetings, Bloggy Bakers and Carvers!

I am entering the apple pie contest at work - I need to bring in my pie TOMORROW MORNING.

That means I need to get as much ready tonight as possible. Yesterday I picked up the apples, and also bought fresh flour and shortening for the piecrust.

It has been YEARS since I made a pie, but I figure it's like riding a bicycle - once you know how, YOU KNOW HOW for life. I used to make pies all the time.

My mother is really the queen of pie baking, but I feel confident that my submission will be acceptable.

And guess what? Yesterday at work we got an email that it is PUMPKIN CARVING contest time again! I won last year.

So... is it even conceivable to win both? I dunno, but I'm gonna try!

Day 2066 - I'm PERFECT...kinda...

Greetings, Bloggy Perfectionists!

I've decided that I'm perfect.

Except for just a few things...

I'm too old.
I'm too obsessive.
I'm too perfectionistic.
I spend too much.
My right eyelid bulges when I eat too much salt.
My right eyebrow is too thick.
I have too many freckles.
I procrastinate too much.
I interrupt.
I forget peoples names.

Oops. That's already ten items. That must be it, then.

I'm perfect except for those few things. Thank you very much...

Day 2065 - Moooooo!

Greetings, Bloggy Farmers!

Here's Miss Savannah on the farm, milking her... artificial cow. Ha!

This is the funniest contraption, have you ever seen anything like this before? It even squirted a bit of water to make the experience more authentic.

I just love this picture, and have already shared it with a few people at work. They are all tickled pink to see it.

Hope you're all in a Gooooood Moooood today!

TTFN and have a great Tuesday.

Day 2064 - I've figured it out...Horse Became Horsepower!

Greetings, Monday Morning Blah-gers!

I've finally come to the realization (stupid me) that motorcyclists are modern day cowboys!

Is that already obvious to everyone else on the planet?

They love to wander and be free. They hate confinement. They couldn't be happier than being on their 'horse', going anywhere. The 'range' is the world.

The 'Don't fence me in' rule still applies.

Okay, that's all I wanted to say. Have a nice Monday!

Sunday, October 16, 2011

Day 2063 - No time for bloggage!

Greeting, Blogregation!

We got home late last night, so I didn't write a blog then.

We got up early this morning to go work out, so I didn't write a blog then.

Those two events BECAME the blog for today.

Have a nice Sunday, that's all for today!

Day 2062 - tHE wEEKEND iS nOW!

gREETINGS, bLOGGY wEEKENDERS!

yES, i AM aPPROPRIATELY bORED, SO i gUESS i wILL wRITE tHE bLOG IN rEVERSE cAPS lOCK.

Okay, that was enough to make my point, I won't make you read the whole thing that way.

Here's another cute Halloween photo of Miss Savannah dressed like a butterfly princess (or something like that).

We are off to Buddy Joe's later today for a cookout - can't wait for that! Whatever your weekend plans are, I hope they're fun!

Friday, October 14, 2011

Day 2061 - Friday, Hooray!

Greetings, Bloggy TGIFers-

Look at our cute little Savi, WAY back when she was a baby and it was her her first autumn season.

Sweet, sweet, sweet.

It's Friday, Hooray!

You know what to do, march in a circle chanting 'Fri-day! Harvest Moon! Fri-day! Harvest Moon!'

As usual, another week has flown by in a heartbeat, and I think the time goes faster and faster the older I get.

Charlie is meeting me at the Health Club tomorrow after work. We'll do our pool workout then go out to eat. That's become a regular thing for us, and I love that!

Speaking of the pool, my water aerobics instructor bought me a special bagel today that Panera bread sells for Breast Cancer Awareness month. It is in the shape of a ribbon!

TTFN, have a great Friday and a great weekend!

Day 2060 - Happy Birthday, Gilbert!

Greetings, Bloggy Birthday Celebrants-

Today is my stepfather Gil's birthday, and I hope it's a great one. We won't mention which birthday it is.

Happy Birthday, Gilbert! Do you like the cake photo I found for you? No calories involved.

I am listening to the 'Sons of the Pioneers' cowboy music as I write this, and it makes me feel very peaceful. I just love their beautiful harmony (Marty Robbins too). I guess I have really crossed the old fogey threshold, haven't I?

Happy Birthday, Gilbert, and Yippee-Ti-Yi-Yo!

Day 2059 - Midweek and Midlife

Greetings, Bloggy Middlers!

How on earth could it be Wednesday already? Good grief!

Here's another cute photo from last Halloween.

Have I told you that Savannah said she wants to be a 'Scary Princess' for Halloween?

I don't know exactly what a 'Scary Princess' will look like, but I am sure she'll be awfully cute!

I need to send a few Halloween things to Savannah and Heather, so I'd better hurry up and get to the post office with them.

TTFN and have a nice Wednesday!

Day 2058 - The Kings of Heartbreak??

Greetings, Bloggy Listeners!

Please feel free to disagree with me, but when it comes to heartbreak and suffering set to music, the Kings in my book are Roy Orbison and Dwight Yoakum.

They have been kind enough to share their pain with us in song, and I for one appreciate it. Nobody PREFERS to be sad, (do they?) but when I hear their music, feeling bad almost feels good!

Song after song, wailing their sorrow, betrayal and misery, the Kings of Heartbreak haunt me with their musical tales of woe.

I'd like to think they weren't 'REALLY' unhappy - but I think they must have been at the time. How can you possibly write songs like that if you haven't been there?

Anyway - I don't mean this blog to be dark, I am just telling you what I think! Cheers, Kings of Heartbreak, you guys are the best.

Day 2057 - Monday, Monday...

Greetings, Monday Morning Blah-gers!

No, I don't get Columbus Day off, but I'm happy for all of you who DO!

Here's the latest cute photo of my granddaughter - they had warm weather this weekend! Kudos to Aunt Nancy for taking this picture in her backyard.

If you can't tell, Savi is collecting the downy milkweed silk from milkweed pods - that was fun when I was a kid too.

Here are some interesting tidbits about milkweed!

In World War II, children in the United States were encouraged to collect milkweed pods and turn them in to the government, where the fluffy silk was used to stuff lifevests and flying suits. The silk was especially good because of its exceptional buoyancy and light weight. Also in World War II, because of the shortage of natural rubber, scientists in the United States tried to turn common milkweed’s latex into a rubber-like substitute.

Monarch butterflies are particularly attracted to the flowers of the common milkweed and other milkweed relatives.

In Hindu mythology, relatives of the common milkweed were considered to be the king of plants; it was believed that the creating god was under the influence of milkweed juice when he created the universe.

Day 2056 - Traffic to the Nth Degree!

Greetings, Bloggy Jammers!

Traffic-Jammers, that is.

I was nearly an HOUR late for water aerobics class yesterday morning. Thankfully, water aerobics class runs for 2 hours. This was due to a continuous traffic jam through a construction zone that is usually passable on the weekend.

Later that morning, Charlie also got stuck in bad traffic on surface roads - with everyone trying to avoid the interstate, there were traffic jams on alternate routes.

And last but not least, we BOTH got stuck waiting for a seemingly endless motorcycle procession (we suspect it may have been a funeral procession) to go by so I could make a turn. I'd never seen so many motorcycles in my LIFE, much less all at once.

Hopefully today will be traffic jam free! TTFN and have a nice Sunday!

Day 2055 - Distinguishing Girls From Boys

Greetings, Bloggy Weekenders!

Yesterday Charlie said something that made me laugh. He was watching a toddler walking around the restaurant where we were eating supper.

He said, 'That's a girl, isn't it?' I agreed.

He lamented that sometimes it isn't easy to tell girls and boys apart, especially when parents don't make it obvious from their clothing.

He said that it was easier to identify little girls when 'The parents put a garter on their head'. I started laughing and said 'A GARTER?! That is a HEADBAND!'

TTFN and have a nice Saturday!

Day 2054 - Friday and Weekend!

Greetings, Bloggy TGIFers-

It's Friday, Hooray! You know what to do, march in a circle chanting 'Fri-day! Fri-day! Fri-day!'

This weekend is the Fryeburg Fair in Maine.

In Tennessee, the county fairs occur in August, or MAYBE the beginning of September.

In Maine, the fair is much later, because the growing season runs later due to the climate.

Check them out at www.fryeburgfair.com

Have a nice weekend!

Day 2053 - A Pie in Time Saves Nine...

Greetings, Bloggy Pie-In-The-Skies!

Here's a cute picture of Savannah picking apples, which is perfect for my discussion today.

I am trying to decide whether to enter an apple pie contest at work, and I need your opinion.

The motivation to enter is that the winner gets $500 donated to the charity of their choice, and that would be a wonderful thing.

The bad part is that I would need to make the pie at the crack of dawn, because I go into work for 7am and I want it to be fresh.

I doubt that many people of working age know how to make REAL piecrust out of flour and shortening. I think the crust is super important for a winning pie.

However, writing this, I realized I could even make a deep dish apple pie with a bottom crust and streusel topping like apple crisp. That would also be awesome.

What do YOU think? Enter the contest or get more sleep?

Day 2052 - Happy Birthday to Charlie!

Greetings, Bloggy Celebrants-

It's Charlie's birthday today! Happy Birthday, Charlie!

I've got a couple of cards for Charlie to open, and a couple presents. I need to remember to get on Facebook today and say 'Happy Birthday' to him there too.

Charlie also said he got some cards in the mail yesterday, so he'll open those today too.

We'll be polite and not reveal the new birthday number...

Let's all sing:

Happy Birthday to yooooou,
Happy Birthday to yooooou,
Happy Birthday, Dear Charlie,
Happy Birthday to yooooou!

Day 2051 - Don't Make Me Kill You Again!

Greetings, Bloggy Living!

I saw a promo yesterday for a new drama named 'American Horror Story', which premieres on Wednesday.

There was a scene where the character named Constance said 'Don't Make Me Kill You AGAIN!'

I thought that was a superb line. Here is a link to the article I read:
http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20532698,00.html

Have a nice day, and watch out for those zombies!

Day 2050 - Hilarious!

Greetings, Monday Morning Blahgers!

I love to laugh, don't you?

Charlie makes me laugh. The THINGS he says are funny, AND the way he says them make it doubly funny.

Case in point: Do you remember the famous gymnast, Cathy Rigby?

Well, it happens that she turns 59 years old this year, and we remember her as a young woman.

Charlie read this news and remarked in his Southern accent 'I still think of her bouncing around advertising Maxi-pads!'

And if you're not old enough to remember that - it's true!

Day 2049 - Sunday, Horns and Halos...

Greetings, Blogregation-

Here's an adorable picture of baby Savi on her first Halloween.

We were supposed to have had a FROST overnight, with temps in the 30's. What a cold snap for Tennessee!

I overheard a cute comment yesterday at the health club that I want to pass along.

Two girls were talking about their favorite subject - relationships. One girl quipped 'When my horns come out, they just help hold my HALO on tighter!'

I thought that was really funny! Have a nice Sunday!

Day 2048 - Sips, Strokes, and Pumpkins!

Greetings, Bloggy Octoberfests!

Here's a photo of Punkin Time with our little Punkin Savannah.
It's October already - where did this YEAR go?

Aunt Nancy had asked on Facebook what 'Sips N Strokes' is all about. Sips and Strokes is a place where you go with some friends, bring your favorite beverage (not necessarily alcoholic), and an artist walks you through painting a picture that they have chosen in advance.

You sit at long tables with your own canvas, and over the course of an hour or two you follow the instructors painting, and do the best you can!

Personally, I stink at painting! My lines weren't crisp. I dropped my paintbrush on my palette. I picked up my brush (that had paint all over it) with my HAND instead of a paper towel. I did feel the urge to cut off my ear though...
