Day 2406 - Ding, Dong, Da Blog is Dead!
With other social media capturing people's time, writing 'Da Blog' every day has become more of a chore than my way to communicate to friends and family.
I've enjoyed the last 6 years of posting whatever came into my head, but I think I'm ready to move on. No, there is no crisis causing me to stop, it just doesn't seem satisfying at present.
I won't say (promise?) that this is the last post, but it might be!

Day 2402 - Charitable Giving?
A new season of SURVIVOR begins tonight! Set your DVR's (we already have). Woo hoo!
My team at work is going to do a charitable project in Nashville this afternoon.
I don't think it is distributing chicken soup, which is what I NEED to get over this cold.
I hope I don't spread my cold germs to the population at large - that is NOT the kind of charitable giving I plan to do!

Day 2400 - The Battle is ON!
Blah is right, I have a cold. No more denial. No more thinking it is related to an allergy.
I am going into battle (work) armed with:
Puffs Plus Lotion Tissues
Cold Eze lozenges
Equate Tussin cold medicine
Chicken Soup
Did I have all that stuff at HOME, at my fingertips? Nope, we had to go to the store to get all the battle supplies.
I even did my 'apple a day keeps the doctor away' yesterday. By the way - the apples made me mad. They smelled good, but they're NOT this years apples. If I felt better I'd bring them back.

Day 2399 - I have a COLD!
My mother knew I was getting a cold before I did, and it was OVER the PHONE.
She heard something in my voice and said 'Are you sick?'
I said 'NO', but I was wrong.
The very next morning I woke up with a sore throat, and I have a runny nose and various coldish symptoms going on.
Hope I can shake it soon, wish me luck!

Day 2397 - I Want Some Clam Cakes!
It's Friday, Hooray!

I LOVE Rhode Island Clam Cakes. I can't find them anywhere else.
Some places in Maine have Clam Cakes, but they are more like a crab cake patty.
The kind of Clam Cake I like is a light, fluffy fritter batter with lots of chunks of clam in them.
I had Clam Cakes twice while I was on vacation in Newport, R.I. - a dozen was $10.95 at a local pizza place (that also serves seafood).
My favorite place for clam cakes (Salas's) is being rebuilt, it closed earlier this year on my birthday!!

Day 2396 - Any Advice on Creating a Ghost Walk?
I want to invent a ghost walk for a retreat next year.
I have already started to collect the necessary stories, but I am wondering about little things that would make their experience more fun.
For example - is there an easy way to make a 'paranormal activity' monitor to gauge surrounding spirit activity? (to answer my own question, a memo recorder playing static or geiger counter noises would work)
Do you have any good ideas from ghost walks you have been on?

I have bad news.

I just counted, and I have only EIGHT paychecks till CHRISTMAS!
Eight.
I haven't even gotten my bills from my 2.5 week vacation, but I am already thinking about Christmas.
That's just me, gotta have something to worry about!

Day 2394 - Twofer Tuesday
Charlie and I lucked into a lobster sale in Newport on Long Wharf.
Instead of 'Buy lobster by the pound', they also had lobsters by the piece.
They were $7 each, so I bought 2 of them - one for Charlie, and one for me.
We had them for a 'happy hour' snack, and grilled steaks later that night! They were scrumptious!

Day 2393 - Heigh Ho, Heigh Ho, It's Off to Work I Go!
Yes, I'm off to work this morning after being off for TWO, GLORIOUS WEEKS.
You didn't know that? That's kind of the idea.
I write the blog anyway when when I am on vacation. I don't really think it's safe to publicize to the whole internet world that I'm not HOME.
I predict I will have over 300 emails to review/delete/address - maybe more.

Charlie is a big fan of Sudoku puzzles.
I will admit that I have NEVER done one, ever.
Is that BAD?
I don't regularly do puzzles of any kind, actually. Not crosswords, word searches, etc.
I repeat - is that BAD? Am I doing my brain a disservice by BLOGGING instead of PUZZLING my nights away?

Day 2389 - Oh Bring Me A Figgy Jammie...
Have you ever had fig jam? Does it taste like the inside of a Fig Newton?
TWO of my friends say fig jam is the best jam they've ever had.
Fig trees grow in the south, evidently...
One of the local 'home cooking' restaurants sells fig jam for EIGHT DOLLARS a pint.
Fresh figs cost a fortune, by the way - so I need to find someone with a fig tree or two and make some jam!

Charlie's grandson was trying to remember a song.

I thought that was a very interesting way to say that he couldn't remember.

They are planning a new attraction this year, a Paintball Zombie Hayride where you can shoot zombies while you are on the hayride.
I am considering going - that sounds fun! They had a sign out front this summer that just said 'Zombies Wanted' - I wish I had taken a picture of it for the blog.

Day 2386 - Happy Labor Day!
It's Labor Day, Hooray!
I can smell the burgers and hot dogs already.
Ahhhhh - many of us have the day off today, and that's a beautiful thing.
No mail though, but I can live with that.
Time to stop wearing white shoes for the season, and time to put away your summer handbag if you were even using one. This year I didn't bother.

Day 2384 - Labor Day Weekend is HERE!
Happy September, and Happy Labor Day weekend!
Labor Day weekend brings back lots of memories.
When I was a kid, we didn't start back to school until after Labor Day. Nowadays, some school systems have already been in school a month!
I remember lots of cookouts, picnics, and sometimes fireworks.
My nephew's birthday (I need to get a card in the mail) is coming up soon. It's always funny to think of being IN Labor on Labor Day.
One year we were in Newport, Rhode Island. Charlie bought lobsters right off the boat and they were only 5 dollars each. They were big too! It was some of the best lobster I've ever had.
