Day 2177 - Heart and Soul...

Greetings, Bloggy Aspiring Pianists!

When we were kids, the two songs EVERYBODY(even 10-thumb ME) knew on the piano were 'Chopsticks', and 'Heart and Soul'.

Did you ever really listen to the SONG, 'Heart and Soul', or know the lyrics?

I just received a 2-CD music set that I ordered from Amazon.com. It's called 'They're Playing Our Song - Volume 4', and one of them is 'Heart and Soul', sung by Mel Torme'.

If you don't know by now, I just love 40's and 50's music, and some later and some EARLIER. Heart and Soul is actually from 1938 - did you know that?

And speaking of Mel Torme', here's another trivia tidbit. The song named 'The Christmas Song' that begins 'Chestnuts roasting on an open fire, Jack Frost nipping at your nose' was WRITTEN by Mel Torme'. He actually had a very nice singing voice too.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Comments:
I can hear "Heart and Soul" on the piano, but had to ask Gil the words: "Heart and soul I fell in love with you, heart and soul. Heart and soul the way a fool would do, madly, because you held me tight!" Nice!

No, you were not "10 thumbs" but a very good piano student for the month you took lessons. Or did you just play by ear from listening to Marcia? I thought both you and Lyn took lessons for about a month, but didn't care for it after that.

Which reminds me, write on the blog about your Dorothy role in the Wizard of Oz when you were in 2nd grade.

Seeing the notes made me think of Marcia--I tried to post 3 times yesterday about our wonderful day with Marcia, stupendous Nantucket weather and food fest at Lyn's. Well anyway your mom covered it.

I do remember the lyrics to "Heart and Soul" and am always amazed that I know the lyrics to dozens of songs I learned over 40 years ago. you're like that too right, Karen?

Another sunny but nippy day--walk this afternoon, fix dinner for Mary Ann and I and then off to Tuesday night pool. I'm enjoying retirement--the best part is not having to think the last day of a trip about going back to work! (Sorry Karen!)

I know the words :) That song and "where have all the flowers gone" were the two I could play on piano. Maybe someday I'll try lessons for Savi?

Hi Heather - Savi certainly has the music gene, she could be an aspiring Broadway Star!
