Day 1229 - Everybody Loves Raymond

Greetings, Bloggy Readers -

Here is a great photo of Uncle Ray and Aunt Mary Ann, taken in California among the redwood trees.

Ray's funeral service is today. I hear that yesterday's visitation was attended by many, many people.

I know that everyone loved Ray, he was just that kind of guy. He was open, friendly, hard working, funny, generous, and the kind of person it just feels good to be with.

If you missed one of Heather's comments earlier in the week, she said that 'Stepping into their home is like getting a big hug'. I can't imagine a nicer sentiment or testimonial to the love Ray and Mary Ann shared with everyone and with each other.

Thanks for being in our family, Ray. Rest well, and we'll be thinking of you until we meet again.

Comments:
the wake was nice, but very crowded. Savi was crazy, running all over the place, trying to pull the flowers out of the arrangements. Evan and I took her back early. =)
Hoping she will be better at the service today!!!

Another beautiful tribute to Uncle Ray on your blog, Karen, and at the church today as well. The church that seats 240 was full with probably 40 people standing along the aisle and in the back, and 50 people downstairs. Savannah was very cute, but in a cranky mood so Heather did have to take her out, eventually going to the truck because it was raining. However she said she could hear the service through the open windows. Mary Ann, Debi, Nancy Lynn, Alex, and Jay all wrote something, but Mary Ann had Don Mayberry read hers, and a friend of Debi's read hers. I read your story about the telemarketer which brought howls of laughter, talked about Ray and Mary Ann's generosity with having Thanksgiving at their home for many years, about the kids helping bring in the wood, then the story of Heather naming Ray's new kitten "Mary Sunshine", then a few words about being in the hospital a week ago which basically led into saying "goodbye". We had refreshments downstairs afterwards, then up to the cemetery. Then up to Mary Ann's. We just got home at 8:30. Heather, Evan and Savi, also Lyn, Steve, and Chris left right after refreshments at the church. We had a wonderful visit last night and this morning. The day was "sad but beautiful", as the saying goes. David has my car and has returned up to Mary Ann's--he plans to spend the night. Martha Rivas asked about you, as well as others.

I forgot to say that after the service, Heather and Savi came inside to greet family and eventually Savi fell sound asleep in Heather's lap. We enjoyed showing her off!
