Day 682 - Back to work in 2008
Greetings, Bloggy Commuters!
Actually, a lot of people are off until next Monday. Today feels like a Monday, actually. However, since it's already Wednesday, I am trying to think positively and be happy that it's a short week.
Did you know that it is traditional in the South to eat black-eyed peas for New Years for good luck? Read about it if you want to:

Did you make any New Years resolutions? I forgot to! I guess I already know WHAT I want to do this year, I just have to DO it. Ha!
When we moved to Providence when I was in 4th grade, we'd write our New Year's resolutions on slips of paper, and then toss them in the fire burning in the fireplace. Lyn or Marcia, do you remember that? (Maybe we got that from Disney's Mary Poppins movie).
Hey! We had snow flurries yesterday, and it is very cold - 17 degrees with a wind chill of 5 degrees. Brrr... It will be cold for the next few days.
Caution - changing seasons!
After really enjoying the dry-rub ribs we ate New Years Eve, we are considering getting a propane or electric smoker this summer, one that we can keep out on the deck with the grill.
I already know that I want the kind having a door with a thermostat on it, with racks to put various 'smokable' items on. It needs to have a water pan and a wood chip box.
I want to try smoking chicken and turkey and fish, then I can vacuum seal the items with my handy-dandy Handi-vac sealer.
Charlie has so many catalogs that we didn't need to do much work to 'shop around' a bit. Any advice would be much appreciated, though!
Hey - it's after 6, so I'd better get a move on... TTFN and stay warm! Happy New Year! Put 2008 on some checks to get you going...

So I made it to all of 11:45 today before having to go home. What a wimp I am lately! Off to bed...errrrrrr...
I have a cold and not leaving the house today. Making chicken soup, ymmm! Gil has had a full morning with the snoblower after another 10" of snow. He takes care of our property, his step-Dad's next door and the Legion Hall walk-ways and steps (the parking lot there gets plowed). Karen, I don't know what to say about a smoker--just that I like smoked meat and fish. Good idea! Heather, rest as much as you need to--it's good for you!
Happy New Year, I'm back from my Tahoe weekend. Sun, snow, spa, swimming, casino!! Karen, I swam in heated pool (92)and jacuzzi 102)--surrounded by snow covered mountains. Lots of timeshare exchanges in Tahoe, Karen!
Grateful to be healthy, living in a beautiful state with wonderful friends. Only downside is that family is not here.
