Day 499 - Independence Day!

Greetings, Bloggy Celebrants!

It's July the 4th and most people will have today off.

Charlie and I are planning to take a drive to Amish country this morning to see if any of their crops made it, and buy some corn on the cob and some homemade bread.

We also plan to go see the latest 'Die Hard' movie this afternoon.

Instead of hamburgers and hotdogs, I'm planning to cook barbequed pork tenderloin tonight - I can taste it now... Mmmmmm....

Have a wonderful holiday, whatever your plans may be!

Here's a 4th of July quiz - just for fun:

Hello Karen, and Charlie too:
Happy 4th of July! If you accidently hit the keyboard shift, it becomes the $th of July...how fitting somehow...but anyhow, doesn't have to fit us now, does it?

Steve and I are going to our Portugese picnic, the guys are going to a local block party, a yearly event and tonight there will be NO fireworks other than nature's own lightning.

Your plan sounds like the perfect day to me, Karen, no lie. I have to get up early to work in the am, and would so love such a relaxing time.

You guys are having quite a drought- today's New York Times was talking about it.

Hi everyone who is reading the blog on Independence Day! We took a drive to Amish country this morning and got some fresh corn - $2 a dozen. We just got back from seeing 'Live Free or Die Hard', which we both enjoyed. Happy Fourth!

Hi right back at ya...we're back from our Portugese picnic. Steve had all the great food. Of course it is all meat, and since I eat veggies, well, there was potato salad, regular salad, and pasta salad! Same as the cook out at McCoy.

I brought a blueberry pie which I didn't get around to make, so I went to our local POSH bakery. The only one I could walk to this a.m., sure to be open. FOURTEEN DOLLARS for one eight or nine inch pie, not even deep dish. Nobody at the picnic took it out of the box, so I figured nobody was interested in it. I took it out of the box. Then I saw Steve cutting it. A bit later, I wandered over to the table to get a piece, and NO pie. I asked Steve after if maybe somebody removed it from the table (the Stranger brought it). He said no, an old guy said "give me a piece of that!" and away it went, as soon as he cut it. I guess it was just a matter of the one who brought it had to cut it! Funny. Different families have different customs, and you just never know.

All I know is that I never got any of the fourteen dollar pie on the $th of July. And that is my story. Die hard, folks.

That's a great story about the pie, Lyn! We paid $6 in Amish country for 2 dozen ears of corn, 3 lbs of onions, and 2 green peppers. Live free then die hard!
